I'm having trouble sleeping so I put on the TV and see the news that an 8.8 earthquake hit Japan and a tsunami is supposedly heading that way! Anyone watching CNN?

Wow!

I was about to go to bed but I guess that I'll turn CNN on for a bit. Thanks for the post.

Yes, I just happened to be flipping channels. It's awful. Boats & cars are floating away. The aftershocks are still at a level 6. :( I feel sorry for those people. The tsunami is heading toward other countries' coastlines, now, which are now under tsunami warning.

The Yen has been immediately devalued, which means it will affect the rest of the world.

What the heck is going on with the earth in that region of the world? There was the earthquake in New Zealand a couple weeks ago, earthquakes all the time off of India & Indonesia. :(

I found this at the BBC-

Japan hit by massive earthquake
Breaking news

A powerful earthquake has struck off Japan's north-eastern coast, shaking buildings in Tokyo and forcing people out of their homes, witnesses said.

Japan issued its most serious tsunami warning, saying a wave as high as 6m (20ft) could strike the coast near Miyagi prefecture.

US officials said the 8.8-magnitude quake struck about 250 miles (400km) from Tokyo at a depth of 20 miles.

TV pictures showed a wave crashing into the Pacific coast.

The surge of water carried cars and ships as it surged through a coastal town.

Watching the tsunami right now. Devasting, incredibly sad.

My prayers go the nation of Japan.

Are you guys watching the tsunami live on CNN? It's horrible. :scared1: It looks like some sci-fi movie with special effects of some force overtaking and engulfing the countryside. :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

Yes! Thats what I have on, and the BBC has it on, too. They're saying when our stock market opens in the morning there's going to be havoc because of the devaluation of the yen.

This is so horrifying to watch. The buildings on fire as they are floating - it just seems unreal.

OMG, DH and I were watching our evening local news when they broke in with "breaking news" on the Quake and Tsunami.

This is devastating. :sad1:

At least it's daylight there. People can move & get to safety during the light.

Just reported a 10 meter tsunami hit the airport and it's under water. And they think another bigger one is on the way somewhere, Japan, Russia, a few other places, they aren't sure where it'll hit. Hoow cant they not be sure? Can't they track the ocean movement?

Didn't they have an earthquake a day or two ago? Downtown Tokyo actually has traffic. Trains are stopped for security. Looks horrific. 2:40pm they felt the first large quake in Tokyo and it went on for several minutes. I've been in this area. The settlement is dense. So sad.
