And just for fun for those who really enjoy planning what to pack: (It's not DCL-specific so you'll need to weed out whats not helpful for cruising)

This one is DCL specific and also includes a lot of GREAT Cruise tips but it's an Excel spreadsheet, not a thread. There are tabs at the bottom with different categories of information. It's very comprehensive!

Useful links for Seattle

LA to Seattle is at least 20 hours of drive time. There are plenty of places to see, but you really would not be able to enjoy them. I would recommend coming to Seattle a few days early and seeing the sights around there.

Mount Rainier and Mount St Helens are easily accessible. You might want to stay overnight at Rainier. Or go down to Portland Oregon. In Seattle itself is the Pike Place Market, The Klondike Gold Rush National Monument, a fantastic Underground tour, and of course the Space Needle.

Seattle area info

Here is quite a bit of touristy stuff to do in the Seattle area! I also included a link to Sea-Tac Airport.

Mount Rainier and Mount St Helens would both require a car to get there and would each take most of a day to get to and see.

Most anything over on the Olympic Peninsula would require a car and a whole day.

Let me start by saying- I'm NOT on this cruise. I'm on the 5/31 sailing, but I click on pretty much any thread I see with the word Alaska:laughing:. Have you checked to see if someone else had started a meet thread? Surely your not the only disser on the Aug 6 cruise... Have a great cruise either way!!

Edited to add: I just realized you are talking about 2012, not this year.... Ooops....

2012 Seattle Schedule - Beginning May 28, 2012, the Disney Wonder will sail a total of 14 seven-night cruises from the Port of Seattle to Tracy Arm, Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan, Alaska, as well as Victoria, British Columbia.

These cruises will combine the natural wonder and adventurous spirit of Alaska with the unparalleled, family-friendly experience found on a Disney Cruise Line ship. Disney Cruise Line works closely with Alaskan tour operators to create exclusive-to-Disney family-friendly Port Adventures that allow guests to best experience Alaska’s natural beauty and rich history.

On their Alaskan adventure, guests may catch a glimpse of a brown bear, bald eagle or humpback whale. They can explore magnificent glaciers and fjords in Juneau. In Ketchikan, guests can fish for some of the largest wild salmon in the world and learn about local culture through hand-carved totem poles. In Skagway, Disney Cruise Line guests can traverse panoramic landscapes by railway, or pan for gold like miners from the famous Klondike gold rush.

Seattle, At Sea, Tracy Arm, Skagway, Juneau, Ketchikan, Victoria, Seattle

I'm not on this one either but I'm on the 5/28/12 and I just started a thread on that. I came over to check out some other threads and all I can say is Wow! I love all your links! I will be coming back to check them out!

Would it be ok if I copied some of this onto our thread? I would give you credit for all your work though!

Have a great year of planning!

Be my guess, no need to give credit, as they are in use on a couple threads on the boards.

Thanks for stopping by.

We are finalizing our booking in the next couple of days. It is looking like we will be on this cruise with you. More will jump on board as the deposits are paid.

Hi Ed,

Thought I'd check out your met board too! I was going around and around between the 8/6 and 8/13 cruises. Our family landed on the 8/13 only because it works a tad bit better with the kids' swim team schedule, which could go into that first week in August. We've never been to Alaska and are really looking forward to it -- our plan was to go to Europe next summer, but I didn't realize that the Magic would be headed elsewhere. So Alaska, here we come! After listening to everyone's opinions on the 2012 itineraries, I did check out some other cruise lines...but at the end of the day, my kids are still really into all things Mickey and Minnie! Me too. :)

Same here, we looked at other lines, but our first two cruises was on Disney and we love the Magical feeling being outboard.

We almost did the 13th cruise but school starts too soon after the cruise
We may drive from Ct and I need a min of 6 days to drive back to Ct
