O.K., it's time to get started on my trip report, I have been putting this off long enough, a word of warning, I have a total of 15 pages of handwritten notes to go through, so this will take some time, and be quite long!!!

Cruisers: Andy(Verandah Man), DW-Hazel, DD-Angelina, Dmom-Vi,
Dsis-Vicki, and Dniece-Vicki J.

*Friday August 22 2003 Travel Day*

Woke up early this morning and did some reading and posting on the DISboards, took a couple of photos of my computer screen as my countdown clock was approaching the "ZERO" hour.

My Dmom arrived at our house shortly before 10am, we finished putting the luggage in her car that would not fit into our car, then we headed for the Atlantic City International Airport. We arrived at the airport at 10:45, unloaded the luggage and headed for the long term parking area. My Dmom and I joined the rest of our group inside, then headed for the check in counter. We were checked in by 11:20, and went to get a bite of lunch, as our flight was not scheduled to start boarding until 2:25pm, but Spirit Air wanted us at the airport at least three hours before flight time.

As we were eating, friends from our church walked by, we called to them, and they came over to join us. They were waiying for their granddaughter to arrive from Florida.

Around 1pm, we headed for the security check in point. Both my DW and I were pulled to the side for added scanning, since we both have metal replacement parts in our bodies, we set off the metal detector. I looked over to where my Dmom was sitting, and she was laughing, because she had just read the article that Sandy(gometros) had written about Captain Verandah being pulled over by airport security!!!

We started boarding the plane at 2:30 and took off the ground at 3:12, the captain came on and announced that it looked like that we were in for a smooth flight to MCO, and that we should be landing around 5:00.

We had a very smooth flight until around 4:45. The captain came back on and announced that severe thunderstorms would delay our arrival. We circled MCO several times, before the airpost was re-opened and we were finally able to land at 5:40.

As my family waited at baggage claim, my Dmom and I headed for the Avis Rental Car counter. By the time we got done at Avis, our luggage had all been collected. We pulled out of the airport at 7:00 and headed straight for the Radisson, where I already knew there were DIS'ers gathered, I love having a cell phone!!!

It was still pouring down rain as we left the airport, but was able to arrive at the Radisson at 7:45, we got checked in, took our bags up to our room, put on our "LIME GREEN" DISboards t-shirts that I had made, and headed for the DISmeet around the pool.

The first person I noticed was Shirley from "The Perfect Gift" what a dear sweet woman she is!!! Shirley introduced us to Norm, and to Norm's right was Lynn(moosysmom). These three weren't on our cruise, but they wanted to be a part of the DISmeet, so we welcomed them with open arms. Actually, since they were there before us, they welcomed us. Shirley also introduced me to Joe, the General Manager of the Radisson, he was a very nice man and took us for a tour around the pool garden area.

We also met Diane(allshookup) and her DH Mike and children, then Lisa(lisak1) DH Jeff and DS Kyle. Next we met Lisa(Talking Hands) DH Joe, they were staying at the Radisson, but were on the Wonder Cruise leaving on Sunday 8-24, they stayed around and joined the DISmeet as well. Next to arrive around 9:00 was Trish(Tricia T) DH Mike and family. The weather also delayed their arrival.

A little while later, I had a gentleman come up to me and asked, "Are you the infamous Verandah Man?" "Yes" was my reply. He told me that his name was Steve and that he was a DISboard lurker, but not a poster. Steve went on to tell me that he and his family had just arrived back to the hotel, after having dinner at Dixie Crossroads. I invited Steve to join us, but he was helping his DW by doing the laundry, while she put their three children down for bed. I almost forgot, when Steve introduced himself, he said, "Verandah Man, I'm Laundry Man" After that everytime I saw Steve on the ship, I would call him Laundry Man!!!

We left the pool area around 10:30 as it started raining again, and went to our room. We had a third floor room that looked directly at the port. I think I finally fell asleep around 1:00am. I woke up several times during the night and kept checking the time. Finally, at 5:15 I looked out the window, and what did I see, but the most MAGICal site, it was The Disney Magic sailing up the channel, needless to say, I didn't go back to sleep anymore that morning!!!

*Saturday Morning 8-23-03*

I met Lynn(moosysmom) around the pool as we waited for Buckaroo's Dad and Sarah(Maleficent59) to get off the ship and come meet with us, before we headed to the terminal. Finally BD showed up, it was so nice to finally get to meet BD and Buckaroo. It was quite evident that BD and B have a close father and son relationship. I was able to get some photos of BD, but he tried hiding away from the camera. We talked about changing the Rae and Andy 50th Birthday Cruise to the summer of '05(the plans are already in the works for the change). Sarah arrived as Lynn and I were on the way back from dropping my rental car off at Avis. Sarah was as sweet as could be, and was exactly how I pictured her to be. I was able to get a quick photo or two with Sarah, as it was now time to get on the first shuttle leaving the Radisson headed to the DCL Terminal, where my report will pick up next time. This is what they call a cliff hanger in T.V. land!!!

Great report, so far! Great pics, too. You look so at home on your verandah, Captain Verandah!!

Can't wait for more Andy! I have been waiting (impatiently) for your trip report...basically since you left ;) I know that I couldn't possibly be as excited as you were for your trip but I have to tell you how infectious your enthusiasm has been for me. I am so happy that your trip was wonderful. Per usual you have me thrilled about our 2004 cruise and make me want to try the 7-day first but alas we are chicken and will start with the 4-day. Anyway - more more please!

What a treat to wake up and find the first installment! I'm on edge waiting for the next report!

BTW, the picture of BD and B had me LOL!

Thanks Andy - please keep em coming!

How did you get on the 1st Radisson shuttle to the port? I thought you didnt arrive at the Radisson till later?

Thanks Andy for the first installment of your trip report!! I can't wait to read more!!!

We found out a few days before we left that you can call the Radisson and make your shuttle appointments before arriving now, so we booked our spot at once, and got on the first shuttle, we actually left around 10:10am

I can still feel the "excitment" in your reports, just the same as before your trip... I love the play by play commentary... feels like I'm right there you guys.

With the exception of the last minutes in flight "touring the Florida skies" - sounds great!

That must have been amazing to see! I have chills just reading this part of your report!

This is my first time back on the boards since setting up my new computer and what a great way to come back. Great report, Andy, although I think it's terribly unfair to post a picture of you sitting on that veranda before posting the part of the report that gets you on the ship :)

Sorry the weather delayed your plane. We actually got a much earlier flight and landed before the storms. Unfortunately, we were lost in Orlando and did not make it to the Radisson in time for the meet:(

I will be starting my T.R. tomorrow, I am doing it as a word document, and will be posting it simultaneously here and on the PassPorter boards. Due to my stupidly dropping my camera in Magen's Bay, it is doubtful I will have pictures, I am still trying to find someone to download them from my SD card to a CD.

Andy, keep posting, I am anxious to see how much fun you had!
