I'd like to use my 40 seconds for acceptance speaches to simply say...

Thank You, it's an honor and privilage to serve up a few chuckles...

<then I'll just stand there and smile silently for the remaining 40 seconds waving the Oscer!>

So whose body did you steal??:scratchin

I was a full time live in nanny while waiting for OCS classdate to arrive for almost a year...started with a 6 mo & 2 yo. The mother was a PM RN & the father a cheif on a ship. Many days the mother saw the girls while they ate breakfast as she passed thru on her way to bed. I fixed dinner & she came out ready to go to work. They couldn't take the fact that the baby had seperation anxiety from me and not them. One thing that experience made me realize was that I didn't want anyone else raising my kids IF I ever had them. At that point I was still career minded going into the Naval intel division to travel the world. On our trip thru Nova Scotia that is one thing that DH2B & I talked about...just 4 months after we had met. IF I ever had kids, I wanted to raise them. (please don't take this as anything against anyone who is not a SAHM...this is just what I learned thru my experience because I saw how the mother resented me) I am lucky enough that DH has a job that allows me to be here for the kids. Of course, we live in pohdunk, NC and the great rate I worked up to before staying home of 7.24 ph in 1998. That was quite the drop for me from working in VA so it doesn't pay for me to go to work here in the long run. When & if we move closer to a big city where I could have something left after daycare...I will probably return to an office. I have been thinking about getting into a job that I can do from home like medical billing though.

There were times when as a SAHD I was having mixed roller coaster feelings... I want to be more productive - but then WHAT can you do between 11AM and 5PM 4 days a week ... and at random times you can't really work if someone is ill or some kids' activity starts up - like gymnastics, soccor, karate or t-ball? So I plug away somewhat effecttually at my business of 18 years. It self sustains itself at an idle but competition is effectively eroding my accumulated volume.

I used to think if this conhtinues then eventually I'll be ready to bag groceries at the market. It was real depression I felt at times over the years and this was mixed with the satisfaction of observing and guiding our kids through various needs and diversions. Sweet and sour... an odd mixture outside of a chinese dish, eh?

I wish we would get some snow.....I have been getting jealous of so many of you!:confused3

Caroline, It would have cost us roughly $17,000 (1450 mon) for great coverage. DS has allergies, exzema,ADD and asthma(when he was young.) I had 2 herniated disks and psorasis. Our HSA is about $4500 (360 mon) + $5300 we put on the card. It saves us a little over $7000 a year. The thing that I like the best about it is that what ever we don't use on the debit card stays there and grows. We had been fairly healthy the last 3 years, but DH knee surgery will take all of this years deposit.

that is crazy i pay 68 dollars every 2 weeks and my whole family is covered. i bowl on a leauge with my doc so he never even charges me for a co pay
my DD needs surgery next month so i have no idea what my copay will be for that cause its not my hospital:confused3

CRASH....your last question about dessert OFF the Magic/Wonder....did you mean dessert anyplace other than the ships? That's how I took it, but it looks like I'm the only one who did:confused3

It was a poor choice of erbage on my part...

... but then again I was just trying to distract as many wenches from teh 33,000th sprint as possible... so if it ate into 5 extra seconds then ... IT WORKED! <chuckles>

Interpret it anyway you like. We'll still reward you with a Mickey Bar when you get to the ship!

Looks like I've missed tons of stuff again!

Condolences to those with recent losses.

Congrats to all the award winners; that looked like a fun list to compile!

MR, I never noticed you were from Jersey! I live in Hillsborough.

Andy, I'm not happy to hear that the snow has started! Hope you won't have to deal with ice tomorrow.

In the spirit of the oldies e-mail, I will pass on this one I received:

Some of the artists of the 60's are revising their hits with new lyrics

to accommodate aging baby Boomers. They include:

Ringo Starr--- I Get By With a Little Help From Depends(Andy?);)

The Bee Gees--- How Can You Mend a Broken Hip.

Bobby Darin--- Splish, Splash, I Was Havin' a Flash.

Roberta Flack--- The First Time Ever I Forgot Your Face.

Johnny Nash--- I Can't See Clearly Now.

Paul Simon--- Fifty Ways to Lose Your Liver

The Commodores--- Once, Twice, Three Times to the Bathroom.

Procol Harem--- A Whiter Shade of Hair.

Leo Sayer--- You Make Me Feel Like Napping.

The Temptations --- Papa's Got a Kidney Stone.

Abba--- Denture Queen.

Tony Orlando--- Knock 3 Times On The Ceiling If You Hear Me Fall.

Helen Reddy--- I Am Woman, Hear Me Snore.

Leslie Gore--- It's My Procedure, and I'll Cry If I Want To.

And my favorite:

Willie Nelson--- On the Commode Again

Not really...

... I am like anyone else in most ways (I suspect).
I wake up and have a few minutes before the kids awaken and I usually post after the kids fall asleep. In the middle of the day it is very sporadic if I post at all. And when I do ... half the time I am doing other stuff and wandering back to glance at what has been posted just BEFORE and AFTER I post. I - like most folks - am having a terrible time reading EVERYTHING. But when I get on initially I click the link to get to my last posting so I can take a look around to see if there is anything posted as a reply to me that I might have missed.

RIght now I was to have taken my girls to breakfast but my spouse got up and deflected that plan... thus leaving me with a little time here. And I just found this posting of yours' which I otherwise would have MISSED.

So... I am usually juggling live hamsters while standing on one foot and cooking dinner ... that's my daily grind as a SAHD who also tries to earn a little change pushing my business along... same one I've been runnin' for 18 years now. ANd NO... business is very soft given I am sacrificing it to be a Dad for the kids. My spouse has a "great job" but cannot take a step back without losing it. We reasoned that my business could take a step back and I could recover... plus I get paid even if I step back as I am a wholesaler... so business continues to pay... it's just that I gradually lose business and my lack of availability (to work/travel/etc.) means I'm not replacing it and maintianing sales volume.

So... it is worth it. We feel the kids are very closely supervised and supported. They can pursue karate, Gymnastics, Soccor and T-ball simultaneously because I am available for that. Plus they have pre-school and K-school. And when they get sick .... I'm there to handle anything. My spouse gets to pursue her career and her shopping escapades without disturbance too!

We've taken a huge income hit (short term) but I hope to regain most of it someday. In the meanwhile some things have obviously been sacrificed. Including some of my attitude. There was a time when I felt myself going through DEPRESSION over the changes. This was mixed with an appreciation for what we were gaining... but at the same time I had a strange mixture of sweet and sour feelings over it all. I am not accustomed to feeling helpless on certain matters.

We have had a full time nanny before - and we tried replacements, various day care alternatives - and so on. But we are VERY PARTICULAR about who we employ with our kids and in our home. IE... many folks who have a nanny say she is the greatest - EXCEPT -- every now and then things DISSAPPEAR. TO my spouse and I this is totally unacceptable. So much is IMPLIED silently by petty thievery.

Aside from that... I think EVERYONE has sacrifices to make if they have kids. Especially young ones. If you run two careers full time - that's great! But the flexability is narrow. I have a flexable business so I was the one to take the reins over the kids - and TRY to maintain what I could in business. And - I have time to post sometimes.

My image trolling is sometimes very fast - and other times I can't find an image at all and generally will not post at all. SO - it's "all or nothing" with me. WHich - BTW - was a nick name some friends used to apply in referring to me sometimes. In the matter of our kids - I am "ALL" the way committed to them... as are all of us here who have kids in tow.

So much for my rambling - sorry for taking up so much acerage - at least I didn't hog up bandwidth with animations to match it!

Your girls are going to have such great memories hanging with you!:goodvibes Not many dads get to spend so much time with their kids. You and they will treasure it forever.:flower3:

Doesn't matter here, we don't get The Travel Channel. :sad2:

Hey Andy, you have Comcast right? I got something in the mail last week about getting digital cable for free for a year. I have been meaning to call them to see what it is all about. Would be nice to see all of these shows people talk about.:upsidedow

Really...

...thanks. I imagine it is great for the kids... but it is really difficlut to let business relationships evaporate over these past 5 years. I simply cannot service the accounts the way I need to (by traveling out in person). And competitors who do show up in person will eventually take the business. So - we made a decision of sorts and - I keep going through this like a recording - so I'll just stop right here.

I figure on exactly what you said - and I will do what I'm doing. Besides, it's easier to lurk, taunt (gently) and poach for the 1000th postings this way.

Sometimes when I'm feeling really mixed up I have to tell myself I'm doing the smartest thing...
And so what with the rest of the world and what anyone else might think!
Know what I mean?
<chuckles>
