Hey all - just noticed on the travel channel next saturday 6-7pm I think) is a Top 10 Beaches special - Mexican Riveria Beaches, Cabo San Lucas, Acapulco and Puerto Vallarta beaches will be featured. Enjoy!

Thanks....I'm going to check that out!

My favorite was once at Disney World. My DD, who was nine months, and I were sitting waiting for everyone else who was on Tower of Terror. DD went into a meltdown. When she had a meltdown, she HATED to be held -- she'd kick and scream and just work herself up more. If you left her alone, she'd freak out for 5-10 minutes and then calm herself. So I sat her in her stroller, and was rocking it back and forth. Some woman came over and screamed "Why don't you pick that child up instead of letter her cry. That's child abuse."

I told her loudly if she didn't leave immediately, she would truly understand the meaning of the word abuse. A CM walked over and asked her what was wrong. I told her what I was doing and asked her to keep this woman away from me. The other woman walked away complaining loudly about 'some people'.

DD calmed down as I was talking to the CM.

Good for you.......I had a similar situation once at Lowes. Dh had been out of town for a couple of weeks, so I had been doing the single parent thing. I was stressed and tired. I had my ds who was 5 at the time and my dd who was 1. She was sitting in the front of the cart properly strapped in. Ds was walking beside me. I was picking out a hose, and turned my attention away from the cart for a moment. Ds proceeded to hop on the cart (after being told repeatedly NOT to...) and the cart came down right on top of him, with dd in it. After I pulled the cart back up and made sure they were both okay, I placed my hands on ds's shoulders (NOT shaking him, mind you....just making sure I had his complete attention) and ask him "what were you thinking?! You could have injured yourself and your sister!!" I NEVER spanked him or called him stupid or anything like that....A man came over and yelled at me and said "I'm not going to let you talk to this boy like that!" And he continued to scold me. I was shoked! Now, if I had been calling my son names or striking him, I could have understood. But I did nothing of the sort. We have never even done those things in the privacy of our home. I certainly wouldn't do that in public. I actually started crying in the store. Not one of my proudest moments....

Hey Crew, I'm back! What'd I miss over the last week? Wait - I know - just go read the summaries... :rotfl2:

Many thanks to Enna for covering for me during my absence.

And without further ado, here is the Pirate Joke of the day. This one is in honor of the day we all (or most of us) got our cabins. (Sure hope Enna didn't use this one already...)

pirate: pirate: pirate: pirate:
Long ago, when sailing ships ruled the waves, a captain and his crew were in danger of being boarded by a pirate ship. As the crew became frantic, the captain bellowed to his First Mate, "Bring me my red shirt!". The First Mate quickly retrieved the captain's red shirt, which the captain put on and lead the crew to battle the pirate boarding party. Although some casualties occurred among the crew, the pirates were repelled.

Later that day, the lookout screamed that there were two pirate vessels sending boarding parties. The crew cowered in fear, but the captain calm as ever bellowed, "Bring me my red shirt!". The battle was on, and once again the Captain and his crew repelled both boarding parties, although this time more casualties occurred.

Weary from the battles, the men sat around on deck that night recounting the day's occurrences when an ensign looked to the Captain and asked, "Sir, why did you call for your red shirt before the battle?". The Captain, giving the ensign a look that only a captain can give, exhorted, "If I am wounded in battle, the red shirt does not show the wound and thus, you men will continue to fight unafraid". The men sat in silence marveling at the courage of such a man.

As dawn came the next morning, the lookout screamed that there were pirate ships, 10 of them, all with boarding parties on their way. The men became silent and looked to their Captain for his usual command. The Captain, calm as ever, bellowed, "Bring me my brown pants!!

Enjoy! I'm off to read the summaries...

Wow, a real Groundhog joke.

I don't know. As soon as I hear rules it is followed by blah, blah, blah.

I don't do rules on vacation. Well, except for my dress code - no tops with sleeves, no shoes with toes.

I see them as more guidelines than actual rules.

A not-so-funny story. When DD#2 was tiny, we went out to dinner one night and she was wearing one of those itty bitty headbands. Some woman came to our table and said "Oh, what a pretty little baby" but then she looped her finger under the elastic headband, snapped it back, and said "But why do people like you insist on putting these on their heads"!!!
DH had to hold me back. It was about to become MOMMY SMACKDOWN!

i would have punched her in the face just once and i bet she would have never touched someones elses kid

But for the record......us NYers get a bad rap......we're really okay people! (Even us NYers that now call NJ home!)
:thumbsup2 NYers are really great! Want a friend for life, find a NYer! :thumbsup2

Diane I really want to do the Gem. It looks awesome! While were waiting for the 2011/2012 maiden voyages, lets do a jaunt on the Gem shall we? :rotfl: They have that private deck with 10 cabins or so that have access to their own pool and hot tub. Anyone Game? :rotfl: :rotfl: Well if we win the Mega Millions for over $200 million tomorrow we'll treat everyone!
Out here in PA we have the Powerball. DD has decided that when we win it, we will charter the Magic and invite our friends and families.:rotfl2:

Well I don't want to whine or anything, but my Monday sucked. :sad2: DH & had a big argument & that upset the kids & I would go into it, but I don't think everybody needs or wants to hear all my dirty laundry. Wanna meet for a drink? ;)
:grouphug: Hope today is a better day!

Hi Margaret!
Shannon I want to answer you about your trip to Manhattan, but been a few years since I've been there, but DH goes to work there everyday. Since you have young kids he said Times Square is now very kid-friendly. Also there is FAO Schwartz toy store. The Museum of Natural History is great as is the Hayden Plantarium. Of course a trip to the Empire State Building is fun or maybe take in a matinee of Beauty and the Beast or The Lion King on Broadway, or of course there is Central Park (it has a zoo) But if I was coming to Manhattan I would do the one thing I never have done which is visit the Statue of Liberty. I'll see what else I can think of over the next couple of days. As far as a tour book...does Fodor's have a book for NYC, oh they must. I like the Fodor travel guides myself.
Just a warning about the Statue...Lady Liberty herself has been closed for quite some time. We went there over the summer and you couldn't even get into the observation deck (base). Ellis Island is absolutely fabulous but DD7 found it boring after about 30 minutes.:confused3 If you decide to go, check out the status online first.

So who will it be?

:woohoo: You rock it!!! :woohoo:

I just take the books people leave on their chairs for hours up by the pool. Free towels, too.
:rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl2: :lmao: Along that same line of thought...does that mean when you go to the club/lab to pick up your children that you can select another if yours is crying or behaving poorly?:rotfl:

I hated when strangers wanted to touch my belly. I also wanted to deck them when they would ask how many babies I was having. I carried HUGE. All belly, you couldnt tell I was pregnant from the back. But only one baby each pregnancy, 9lb 13 oz #1 (7 min after my due date) and 9lb 3oz #2 (#2 was 3 weeks early, I'm sure if I went the extra 3 weeks he would been over 10)

God bless you when i dad the twins i went to 37 weeks and had to be induced both of them were only slighty bigger then your one!! the last month was horrible wasent it!!!

Thanks for your words of support for New Yorkers! With so many kinds of overt prejudice being clearly forbidden to express nowadays (as they should be), I'm always amazed to see what people think they can say about New Yorkers as a group and New York as a place . . .

The Statue was off limits for quite some time after 9/11, but you can go up into the pedestal now . . . here is the official website with info about tickets:

I'm in for a book swap. My fav's are James Patterson (just finshed "Cross" Saturday) Dean Koontz (started "Brother Odd" last night) and cant wait for Frankenstein 3 to come out. I also read Vince Flynn, and Jeffrey Deaver. Just recently started getting into Nelson Demille.

i LOVE james patterson i read all his books except the new ones cross and step on a crack . i also like karin slaughter she has 4 books and she is similar to patterson i have not beena ble to read anything but text books:idea: this summer im only taking 1 class so ill be able to ketcup

A few more things:

a good friend of mine wrote this book about New York City with kids:

http://www.amazon.com/Frommers-New-York-City-Kids/dp/0764573837

and although I haven't read it (!) I'm sure it's a good resource. I did read her most recent book about the 500 places to take your kids before they grow up, and she's an engaging writer.

Also, if you aren't interested in actually going into Ellis Island or the pedestal, the best view of both you can get is from the Staten Island Ferry, and the price can't be beat (free!). My family has a tradition of doing a round trip (you have to get off in Staten Island and get back on again, but it's easy) on the Ferry every summer just for the views.

Is it possible that we have reached a 'reasonable' pace?? I got a full night sleep and only had a few pages of ketchup!

My favorite WDW stranger-kid thing was that many, umm helpful people, seem to forget that it is possible to live close to WDW! We lived about 1.5 hours from WDW from the time DS8 was born until DS6 was a year old. They are 21months apart, so both were pretty little at the time. We went to WDW a lot - with the complete understanding that if they were having a bad day, etc., we'd head home.

I don't think an hour would go by that we wouldn't hear from someone about how crazy/mean/cruel we were for bringing kids that little to WDW! Sure, there is no way I would have schlepped across the country for 2 weeks in a hotel on our family's Disney tripofoalifetime, but a few hours on Sat. was just fine. People just didn't seem to realize that our 'trip' to WDW wasn't much different than them spending the afternoon at the mall!

She posted over the weekend that she wouldn't be around much. Someone coming into town, blah, blah, blah, real life things to do. Maybe if we all call her, she'll appear.

Judy! Judy! Judy!

(Did it work?)

OK everybody, if you want Judy to comeback you're going to have to show that you believe in her. Clap you hands & say "I do believe in Judy"

SO the last thing I need is another TV show to watch, but did anyone else watch Black Donnelly's last night?

OMG! It was really good. Especially the last 10 minutes. Like I'm still thinking about it really good.

I'm a compulsive TV non-watcher. I multi-task through most TV shows, about 15 minutes into this one I was actually watching. They are rerunning the pilot Thurs. night (NBC)

OH, just saw the weather - High:14 Low: -4

Maybe you should just drive down and back?:confused3 Or get a U-haul...

the u haul was 700.00 :scared1: i wanted to take a 5 day cruise out of jacksonville just me and DH but now it looks like im gonna have to drive both ways so now i wont have time for the cruise :sad2:
