Well, I can say for certain that we here in the midwest have NO accent!
Isn't it funny how we all think that our way of speaking is the "right way"?


SO I'm still at work. I'm debating leaving. It just keeps coming down. It's not supposed to stop until this evening. SO now my dilemma is do I leave now and risk the bad road conditions, wait and see if the salt trucks/plows come through, or just stay here and wait until later when DPartner can come rescue me?!?! (she drives a nice front-wheel-drive vehicle )

I vote wait for your partner....don't risk it.

Oddly, my daughter's school in Schaumburg did not cancel today. Did district 54? I kept her home anyway b/c our district did call off school and I wasn't going to drive to work anyway.

School District 54 never closes down!!!!! In the 35 years we lived here there has been 7 days school has been closed, Four of those 7 were in one year when my children were little. We have 5 built in snow days a year but if not used, the children get out of scholl earlier in June. I worry for the safety of the children on buses.

I think that's a shame, yo can't even bake wholesome treats anymore, I consider cupcakes wholesome. We have that here in NY also in the public school system. In private schools you can still bring in home made stuff.

I like that you can use applesauce instead of oil with the mixes...I don't do scratch or much cooking at all. I tossed a roast in the crockpot this morning. You can't control anything when you buy the stuff at the store.

I'm also a scratch baker so if I don't have everything that I need it doesn't happen.

I know, I just ran out to the store to pick up brown sugar and unsalted butter.

TOTALLY OT, but I'm kinda excited. We were looking at stuff last night to decorate our nursery/kid room (the bed will depend of course on the age of our child) But the rest of the room is all planned out!

We're doing an "under the sea" theme!

The whole room is already painted blue, and here's a shot of the mural we've ordered for one whole wall of the room:

My God son's room had a mural like that (in his former house)....It looked great. You could hang a fish net from the ceiling in a corner to toss all of the stuffed animals/beanies.

My wife just left to head off to O'Hare. I told her to just delay her flight until tomorrow, but SWMBO does not listen to me. I'm afraid they will just cancel her flight anyway and she'd have gone all the way down there for no reason.

And a crab "pillow" for the bed. (it's actually listed by Ikea as a chair cushion, but I figure we could just cut off the strings and use it as a pillow!)

"Frick" is my new fav - I actually use it all the time now instead of something else. It is so much better than some of the other things that could inadvertently come out.

I actually never swear .

But what I use on a regular basis is the word flippin'. (As in "no flippin' way"..."I can't get this flippin' thing open!", etc...) And it's a bit contagious. A few of my friends have subconsciously added it to their vocabulary as well. They blame me.....

Yes, we mid-westerners have a flat accent. We can always tell that someone is from the mid-west. 15 years ago I went to Jersey State Park to go to Ellis Island. While waiting for the boat I ordered hot chocolate at a snack bar that was there. The 2 girls behind the counter had such thick NY accents. One sounded like she was from Brooklyn and the other the Bronx. Couldn't understand them too well. Ordered, gave them my money, got change and the hot chocolate, said thank you. I guess it went ok!

We just received the new DCL vacation planning DVD for 2007-2008. My DW and DD's and I love to watch it over and over again and sing along with the theme song even though we know everything about the ship inside and out.

Is that normal? Or is that a bit too creepy.
