Wow...

You're gonna DRIVE out from NJ? Wouldn't a train be easier if you're not gonna fly? But - if you're gonna drive - why not try AAA ... they make trip tik flip charts custom designed from your origin to destination. AND ... that might be a good idea???

AAA.gif

The train is an option, but I think the kids would go stir carzy not getting off for 5 days. It's not Disney ya know!:rotfl:

As for AAA, I am looking for a route that allows me to visit lots of folks before our trip!:thumbsup2

Everyone has said not to worry, a lot does happen in 18 months!:cutie:

I agree! Someone on this thread said that they got the last Eastbound Repo cruise just a few months before sailing in 2005. I am sure alot will happen between now and then....

in my male way of thinking, the wenches always win esp. in all
matters of the heart! princess: pirate:s , they all be on this ship!

ok...is anyone else concern about the over booking problem? we're
only gty...{first time for his}, and i read someone blowing it off
because the chances are small..but if you're the one bump, it
won't be so small? and i 'll tell you something hat really worries me,
us getting our room @ the begining prices...seeing how popular this
cruise..they could bump us and resell for a hugh profit gain...:rolleyes1

has anyone every noticed the lady cm walking the decks with a clip
board. she looks very serious and never speaks. always observing...who
is she and what's her job..funny, i frist saw her 2 cruises ago and
each one since..:confused3

This past cruise, I used the Alien Green Mickey heads, put my DIS screen name on them, and stuffed it in the plastic pouch on my lanyard with my Key to the World card.

I also put the Mickey heads in my kid's lanyards and put their room number on the backside of the card. We were in non-connecting rooms and my DD4 and DS7 often thought it was great to move between rooms, forgetting they didn't always have the key to the other room. They both got excited a few times and ran off without anyone to supervise them. (I'm such a bad mom!) I know at least once someone brought them back by looking at their number on the back of their Mickey head.

What a great idea.:thumbsup2 Do you have a HOME DEPOT by you??? The store sells Disney Paint and the paint chips are Mickey heads free for the taking!!!

Now I know why my kids call me boring - here I finally have a whole evening to myself to do WHATEVER I please and where do I spend it? Lurking, vacuming and wishing I was doing something exciting. Boy what happened to everyone? Is it just the West Coasters now?

It's only early here in New Zealand :)

hey! pirate: cpt. crash, wanta form a swashbuckler group? [ that's
what i decided would be my new title...there's something about
being a swabby that leaves me feeling all itchy but could never
put a finger on it ...:scratchin ]

i'm back...

someone asked if we were waitlisted...no, we booked when everyone else did. but i was just honestly so overwhelmed by the thread, how quick it all went, and how i couldn't keep up for the life of me, that i didn't have the courage to post anything! i felt a little "brave" tonight so i thought i'd give it a shot...

thanx, everyone for making it easy for me. (i think...) and for BibbidyBobbidyBoo for the tip on watching potc...i did watch it, the second one too. but i'm still not into pirates. but that's ok...i have 18 months or so to learn to like it, right? :flower:

That's great! I always wondered how other cruise lines measured up to Disney. It sounds like they are all pretty fun for kids too!

We've had 15-16 sailings including 4 on Disney. Compared to NCL, HAL and Carnival there is no comparison for our kids. DCL is way far ahead of the others. HAL and NCL have their various advantages - well - all the lines have their strengths.... including DCL. And for now - our favorite line is DCL.:confused3

Ok, most of you probably have no idea how much I dispise flying. Long story that we have months to explore... I am planning on taking the girls on a cross country trip of sorts. Maybe take two weeks to get to CA, then spend a few days at DL before the Trip of a Lifetime.

What I need from all of you are some "pit" stops if you will. I can do a bunch of mini meets on my way out! I'll be starting in NJ and will most likely take the northern route since it will be summer. So who will help me make my map?? :cheer2:

DH would be following behind by plane....

I don't have any ideas for you (unless you wanna swing by Texas LOL) but you have made me start thinking! Our first WDW trip was during the holidays and short notice (just found out DH was being "forced" into his vacation time by way of lay off- so instead of taking the money we had to take the time off and had nowhere to go, no family to spend the time with, etc. so we hopped in the car and head to WDW- before I even found this board... LOL We were so naive then but I digress) and since then our trips have been on short holidays or the kids missing some school (or trips to WDW in the summer but without DH) but you just now made me realize- this cruise is starting in the summer for us. DH isn't crazy about Disney anyway (hence the reason we've made some trips without him) so now I'm thinking hmmm, I could potentially drive down earlier with the kids, without DH losing even more days off work and then he could fly to meet us shortly before the cruise (like the day before- I wouldn't cut it too close). That's definitely something to think about!

I'd have to find out some info about where to leave our vehicles during the cruise though. I don't imagine if you stay at a Disney resort and go on a Disney cruise that you could leave your vehicle there?
And on the way back- oh nevermind... no can do. My vehicle would be in CA but I couldn't take the time to drive back! The kids have school then! Well it was a thought... I guess maybe rental vehicle to leave in CA and fly back? I dunno.

I'm sure it wasn't me but back in '05 we were doing the family cruise on July 23, 2005. On one of the last nights - the DCL rep made an announcement that there were still openings available on the EB repo - we checked the next day and we were able to book 2 connecting cat 10 - on deck 1 mid ship - which was all fine with us.

It ended up that the older kids couldn't do it as school started on the 17th - :sad2: for them but we were able to take the youngest - another decision we agonized over - but as it was "Once in a lifetime" trip - we did it! Anyways, we gave up one cabin and took the other one and it was awesome! Highly recommend it if anyone gets the chance.

We ended up getting a pretty good deal pricewise not too much higher (if at all) than the opening day I believe but I was happy to get on it at all - as this cruise. And we booked about 22 days before sailing!  Can you imagine that happening here?

Everyone has said not to worry, a lot does happen in 18 months!:cutie:

Well...

... I'm not really worried. I know I can't consider a request to voluunteer my cabin should it occur... especially on account of my having 8 other families joining us on this voyage... including 2 BILs, my FIL + MIL (hopfully), and friends. PLUS... the 700 DIS pals we're gonna have. I don't know if I could EVER live it down IF I volunteered my cabin in spite of my having 8 families as guests and everyone else here on the DIS meet thread...

Of course... the only thing we might consider quitting over is a family emergency - or something tragic like that. :confused3

I so want to go to New Zealand.....(sigh)
I want to take one of those Lord of the Rings tours! :)

Last year I went on a jet boat trip on the Dart River while I was in Queenstown. We got off the jet boat to catch the 4WD bus back to town and our guide pointed and said - that mountain is one of the ones from the film (I forget which now) and the trees were used as the the exterior of Fangorn forest and we were surrounded by movie stars - every horse you could see in the paddocks were used in the movie ...

For a while there you couldn't move for LOR tours etc

There was a joke that they were going to interview the only person in the country that didn't know someone in the movie...

I am so glad to hear that from such experienced cruisers. DCL is all we have known for now....but we like no casino and the family friendly environment.
