well, it has been a long time!!!! I spent yesterday "Ketch-ing up"!!!! (due to a stomach bug - yuck)

Hope everyone had an awesome Holiday and Happy New Year to all!!!! WELCOME to all the new pirates!!!!pirate: Arrrgh!!!!!

Hope Santa was good to everyone! DH had a health scare and was not well through most of December and we were terribly busy at the same time. We think we know what the problem is and it is more minor than feared - keeping fingers crossed!!! We did have a bright spot - we won a prize package in the Ellen's 12 days of Xmas sweeps (for the second year in row no less), so instead of the refurb basic IPod I wanted I am getting an ITouch. We also got a Wii and some other items - which figures because DH got out early and had one put away for DD!!! I also help with PTO's Holiday Shoppe for the kids, did that for last week of November and then Dec 26 th went straight into hitting the sales to stock up for next year!!! Will hit more stores this weekend, if up to it.

Sounds like planning and researching is starting to gear up here. Many thanks to all who are working on this and the website!!!!!:wizard: I was hoping to receive " PC by Cruise ship" for Xmas...but will have to hit B&N for it! I am ready to dive into planning, but have to get through the Xmas shoppe shopping and get decorations down and house whipped into shape first!!!!

:wizard: pixie dust to all in need and keep safe in CA!!!!!

As many have mentioned, I would love to get an emerald, but know nothing about jewelry shopping - so am major intimidated!!!!

m & m's mom - count me in as a Talbot's fan - I shop the sales mostly!!! I am not too happy to hear about the kids clothes. I have been wearing them for years as well and never thought of them for exclusively that age group. You will see me in plenty of outfits from them on this cruise - I put away a few outfits and dresses last year for myself and DD!!!! I was able to find nice things at end of season!!!

stay warm everyone!:) Will be keeping up from now on and will be popping in more often!!!!!pirate:

(gotta figure a way to get that pirates thingy into my sig now that there is less room!?!?)

I pretty much only shop their sales. I can't remember the last time I paid full price for anything. :thumbsup2 Even before they opened up a Talbots nearby there was a Talbots outlet about 10 miles away. You want to talk about bargains! I have found some phemonenol deals there.

Our waiters are going to love us!

Do you usually bring your wine to dinner and pay the corking fee?

I'm sure I'll take it to LA emplty & pick up our wine in Cali. Hmmm, now to find a Class 6 nearby. (I'm going to save so much money this will all be free in the end, right???)

Seriously, you guys are killing me. I've been to almost every state and the vast majority of tourist-y places in the U.S. SF/Napa have always been at the top of my list of places to go & I haven't made it yet. DH has even been there without me.

We just brought our wine with us to dinner last cruise. Never thought about bringing a bottle with us to a show. Good idea. Our wait staff wasn't all that interested in wine - so I don't think there was anything to love on their end. Now, when DH and I sailed on Celebrity Inifinity - ah - that wasa different story. Our somellier stopped charging us corkage cause he was having so much fun tasting our wine. :rotfl:

If you're going to get all your wine in CA - why not get the shipper here? Why bring it with you? Seems easier that way.

There's a large base near LAX, I'd think they'd have a Class 6. DH used to spend a lot of time there. I'll ask him when he gets home. though I've found the selection at the Class 6 to be quite limited. At least the one here - and they really don't carry the CA wines. Though I got a couple of bottles of a German Reisling at a very good price. For CA wines you're probably better off at a BevMo or even a local grocery. BevMo we know carries shippers too.

Didn't someone already to research on the closest liquor stores to DL??

When you finally make your trip to CA for Napa - you've got a spot to land. :goodvibes Of course, this trip might be the closest you get for some time. Maybe you should take advantage of it - hint, hint, nudge, nugde. :rotfl:

We stayed a week at a great B&B in Calistoga.
Every morning we hit a different winery and every afternoon a different spa.
That was one of our favorite trips.

Now that's my kind of vacation!

I'm with you Esteri, I'm set on Diving. Once things calm down a bit, I'd like to do some research on Dive Masters down there. We should definately get a Diving group together.

Hum.... Provided you don't mind a mixed dive/snorkle boat - we're looking for some divers/snorklers to round out a charter. Found a shop that received some excellent reviews and are off the beaten track.

Crossing my fingers I don't lose power today.

I think they said this was supposed to be the biggest storm to hit us in several years. It should be letting up later this afternoon.

The dog is refusing to go out. He's dancing around but every time I try to let him out, he runs back in the house. I'm just keeping him in his crate, I don't want to find any surprises in the house.

The UPS has already kicked in several times just typing this note. I'm just waiting for the power to go out. Already had one big old POP over by the TV equipment - it's now unpluged.

We're getting gusts in the 60 mph range.

Like you - I have to SHOVE the dogs out the door. They take one look and decide they can hold it. :rotfl: I don't think so!

The fence has fallen over - but it fell over in the last major storm like this and was being held up with braces - never got around to fixing it. So, it's expected. I should probably go out and tie it up so that it doesn't get damaged worse.

Well... Off to brave the elements...
On the other hand - we've got WEATHER!! We never get weather. Isn't it great?

Hello good evening hope you are all ok, weekend starts here.

Hey Andrew!

I just noticed your siggy has a monorail now. So I wuz wonderin' ... maybe you should have inserted something like the animation below. Only thing... it's 300x400 bits and 631K in size. Most likely it is too large on screen... as the bandwidth thing is not defined any longer in the siggy specs and limits. Which is why I've always left my parking MAGIC animation in MY siggy. It's small in size physically... but larger than otherwise due to the frame sequence.

Thanks Crash, yes I have seen Monrail CAT before, in fact I think I posted some of these a long time ago on his thread.

When looking through Photobucket recently I saw them again.

:thumbsup2

Well, I got WET!!

Got the fenced patched together in the corner that was coming down. Bungeed it to the fence post on the other side which is metal, and set in concrete. Pounded the braces from the last storm deeper into the ground as they had pulled up. And added some nails.

Good work - given we (DS10 had to help) were fighting the wind which insisted on pushing the fence over into the neighbor's yard.

Outerware is now drip drying in the garage.

By the time I got into dry pants I heard a CRACK and watched as a particularly strong gust pushed the fence IN to our yard - all the way along the back - not just the corner. (There she GOES!) And sure enough the next big gust (in the other direction) has nearly the entire fence lying flat in our neighbor's yard.

Sometime that's just the way the wind blows... :confused3

We needed a new fence anyway. Right? Or at least fence posts - the rest of the fence is good. And now we get to meet our back neighbors - who we don't know. :rotfl:

Or so it is until the photobucket bandwidth limits are reached for this animation file.

I had three tanzanite rings already so John was lucky last cruise.
I do not have any Emeralds but I would hate to get scammed.:sad2: I am sure DCL will have the where to shop for Emeralds lectures on the Ship.

I love Tanzanite, its so beautiful and its a stone I never see anywhere here so when I wear my ring it gets a lot of comments - though I think most people think its CZ :)

OK...

... so you just be careful out there. No more fence work in the rain otherwise you'll need to repair that fence from a boat or somethin' ...

Cherie- I cannot imagine how stressful your job is. On the days that are hard, keep the success stories in mind. My Megan was a micro-preemie, had NEC, had to have a PDA ligation and is still an almost straight A student whose seemingly only side effect is she wears contacts. That did not happen by chance.
It was an NICU nurse that at 1:00 am noticed Megan did not "look right". She ordered an immediate X-ray and that is when they saw air outside her intestines- intestines had burst. As she was about a pound and a half, this was a tricky situation. I am so glad I did not know how high the odds are that a preemie in this situation would have died.
She has no side effects from the NEC which is amazing.
Thank you for all you do for the weakest and sickest babies!! :thumbsup2

Cherie does not really Dis so I am typing this for her

Dear Coral & M
Thank you so much for your kind thoughts. The sweet appreciation of parents like you keep me doing what I've been doing for 24 yrs (yikes :scared1: ). I'm so looking forward to meeting you and your wonderful kids.

Tanzanite is a beautiful gemstone. It sort of looks a lot like a sapphire ... however, I'm no gemologist. SO I might easily be fooled by gems treated chemically, artificially colored, drilled by laser (to remove visible impurities) or irradiated. As I've heard that they "cook" some gems to increase thier "marketability". Check out these discussions on the matter below...

I thought I'd let my 5000 contribution to the DIS be here on the TOAL thread. I don't have anything profound to say, so I'd thought I'd just share some pirates with you.

That's a lot more blue than any Tanzanite I've ever seen. Its more like a pale Amethyst to me. Hmmm....may just be my monitor....every image I've tried to pull up is blue like that, but in person it's always been lavendar.

I can remember back in '98 when I was in Grand Cayman they were telling us how rare this stone was and how it was going to all be mined soon. So we really needed to invest then so that we were sure to get some stones. Guess they must have found another source for Tanzanite. Glad I didn't succomb to the sales pressure.

If it weren't for the huge tree in my front yard my fence would be blown down too. A few years ago the neighbors asked if I wanted to split the cost, which I agreed. But after they got an estimate and found out it would be $1000 each, they declined. I'm not going to pay it all myself, so we'll just wait it out.

DS went out to pick up the neighbor's garbage can that had blown over to our yard and was on track to hit my car. Friday is our usual pick up day but due to New Year's the truck didn't come. It will come tomorrow, but still many folks put out their cans today. 50% of those that I can see have blown over and garbage is rolling down the street.

Mom called and they lost power about an hour ago. We're still good. Hopefully it will hold out.
