Still have not replaced the hot water heater (this was a topic on a chat a few weeks ago). Am using the coil in the oil fired steam boiler for hot water. But am considering a gas fired tankless hot water system. Anyone have one of these installed? I hear they are energy efficient (vs a tank hot water system).

According to a leading consumer reporting magazine (I guess I can say Consumer Reports, just the commercial people can't), you will not earn back the increased costs from the savings over the life of the unit.

I looked at them, needed to have a bigger gas line installed, plus the custom install (I hate plumbing, so I pay to have it done) is more than regular water heaters. The $1,000 unit would have cost about $2,000 to $2,500 installed with new gas line. I opted for the 50 gal regular gas for $700.

Holy Cow!!! 1 day - 40 pages of posts.

What? Did everyone come back from vacation at once?

OK, I'm gonna go ketchup now.

When you get to the one by me saying only 300+ posts till pirate: you should skip to post 80,025 (although there is some mighty entertainin reading, not much substance in that stretch).

We've been going over finances :scared1: What do you think our chances would be of changing stateroom categories? We're in a 6 and I was thinking of trying to move down to save some bucks,or is that not an option?

My sister thought about it and decided she would really like to have a balcony as this will probably be the only time we do this. I contacted DU (where I transfered my ressie) and they told me that there was nothing they could do at this time as the ship was booked. I was hoping that we could change one cabin at the 90 day mark (we are currently in 2 Cat 10 GTY).

Hi Debi,

Maybe when you get closer when final payments are due some lower cat cabins might become available to do this. From what I've read, this cruise was oversold by 30% so there might not be anything else available just now, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to call and check.

It has been so long since I have been "on the boards". Mustve been around 76,000 when I last posted!

Work has me totally running ragged (and this is supposed to be my slow season). If it werent for the TOAL (and the fact that I am getting all the time off I need for the trip), I would consider interviewing for a new job! I worked so much OT lately, that I passed out on Fri nite and missed the chat.

And with all the sub prime issues, the rumor is out that the bonus pool at work will be flat from year to year.

Other than work, things are going OK.

I see folks are posting wedding pictures... will have to scan one. But we both look quite different - and its only been 11 years.

Also, we may ditch our April trip to WDW as my DSis-in-Law is having financial issues and we are trying to tell her to not go to WDW - and delay it until 2009. The airfare for this trip was rediculous (over $400 pp from JFK). We were considering driving 4 hours to Baltimore to get a reasonable airfare (of like $170pp).

Hope everyone is well! And if I fail to make it back to the boards b4 then.... Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!

Sil, hate to hear that you are working so hard. We replaced our water heater 2 years ago, we also went with the 50 gal. like Tom. my plumber didn't recommend the tankless yet. I would have loved to have saved the space.

I would have to agree with you about the April trip, if it is going to add to an already stressful issue for your dsil--I would definetly keep trying to talk them out of it. While we all need and deserve vacations they need to be affordable for all concerned.

You, Marge and family have a great Thanksgiving too.:goodvibes

Mark, you all enjoy your Sunday. (sounds like a lot of work to me). I have work today, Thanksgiving with Alan's family @ 3 and Bunco @7. :)

Debi, we changed our category on the 31st of January. I had originally booked an 8 or 7 can't remember now. But I called later in the evening and had it changed to a 10 GTY, shaving several thousand. If you have moved it to a TA, you will have to go through them--worth investigating. It is probably easier to switch a category than to try to book a room. Good luck.:)

Happy Sunday everyone, time for me to get ready for work.:goodvibes

Yesterday, for the memorial graveside service, my half-sister Paula had contacted a retired priest to conduct the service. This man should go into stand-up comedy now that he is retired, he had us cracking up with one zinger after another. I've never been to a funeral/memorial service before where I laughed so hard. If it hadn't been so chilly and windy yesterday, I wouldn't have minded if he had spoken longer.

I saw some of my relatives I hadn't seen since my grandfather's funeral nearly 20 years ago, and half the people there, I had no clue who they were........

Thanks guys. I'll send a note of to Debbie at DU right now. Maybe I can get on a wait list of sorts.

Andy it is a sad fact of life, that some families only connect at funerals and weddings. I am glad you got to see your family, just sorry about the circumstances.:)

Debi, you got your ticker back!:goodvibes

Prior to booking, I had a price I would not go over when booking. When the site came on line for booking the cat 6 was over my price. I booked a cat 8 instead. We sailed in the exact room on the Wonder on our first cruise.

In the mean time, we cruised in a cat 6 in April of this year. Within hours of being in the room, my brother said, ya know, you really should have booked the veranda for the Panama cruise. I agreed.

When we got home I contacted DU. They said sorry, no way. I was really regretting switching my ressie to DU at that point. Although they did redeem themselves with the extra OBC.

Do you think DU could switch rooms with two interested parties? If of course you were interested & if the extra costs weren't outrageous. I think I got tier one pricing. I was booked within 20 minutes of the site coming on line.

So true, especially since my father was out of my life for many years before we met again at my grandmother's funeral in 1987. That's when I met my half-brother and two half-sisters for the very first time.
