Sure of course you can lurk .......noone is stopping you. I am simply saying that if you want to be a true part of the community you have to participate otherwise what is the point of knowing eveyones childrens names and activities, family history........ To me that is just weird that you want to know about everybody else but are not willing to share the same. I can understand if you want to lurk and do not expect to be part of the active communities website but you want the best of both worlds. you want J.R. to send you all my personal information to use at your disposal. I think the website ought to be for ACTIVE POSTERS!!!!!

I dunno. I've always thought it was way cool the way folks could approach this community in the way the made them most comfortable. Having a brother who's little more than a hermit - I get that not everyone will get the same personal value out of being as active as we are. Yet, they still want that feeling of connectedness, even if it's on the perifery. Or maybe, they're just looking for advice from "older and wiser heads", and the community came along for the ride. Who can tell why anyone joins.

OK, it's not the way you or I'd do it (obviously), but it works for them. :confused3

Besides, the second I sent my "personal" information to be sent out to members of this community it stopped being private and started being public. There's nothing there that I wouldn't be comforatble with anyone knowing. Sometimes it's hard to remember that once it goes out in email it's not a private conversation. I know I struggle with remembering that all the time.

I expect we're probably in violent agreement here - just using different words. :)

So we finally have an answer to one of our groundhog questions. While I cannot get you room assignments or change the color of the t-s****s, we do now have a cruise website. I will be PMing each of you who have posted recently with the URL, user name and password. Hope you like it.

Great site. All that info is going to make planning for this TOAL so much easier. Thank you for all your hard work. I sent you my info today. Without pictures - sorry - I haven't even figured out how to put the banner on my posts. Both my girls will be here in a week or so and I'm going to have them teach me how to do it.

I'm sure I would like it, JR, if only I could see it! When you get a chance, please send me the info . . .

Thank you Allshookup.

I thought that was the point of this site. You could join in or, if you're more comfortable, "lurk". I'm sure I will become more active but I'd like to do it on my own.

My last name wasn't listed because I asked Lisa not to list it. I figured that would be OK.

Actually I did edit out the word "lurk" because it does sound creepy LOL. And truthfully we've had people "lurk" here & then post nasty things about us elsewhere so I don't want to speak for anyone else, but I know I get a bit leery when I am unfamiliar with a user name. But OTOH...yes I understand that this thread can be overwhelming especially since I am shy so if I didn't jump in right away I might have trouble. But really I think that everyone should feel welcome & we do just want to get to know each other before the cruise. Like I said before, hopefully more people will be joining in as time goes on & hopefully we can all get along & have a great time on the TOAL!!! :woohoo:

:rotfl2:
When DS10 was 3 he spent a week or two dropping his drawers and "watering a bush" at his preschool after Grandma taught him how to do it in her backyard. Hey, it was a new skill, and it was cool! The preschool teachers were quite, uh, astonished?

(You may never, ever breathe a word to him that you know this story... :rolleyes1 )
.

My kids water the bushes too.. Dh wasn't very happy but when they were little and the bush was close and the potty wasn't..:confused3

One day the preschool teacher pulled me aside and whispered me that Geoff said he lived in a sewer.. Horrors!!! I said of course he does - he is a teenage ninja turtle right now...

Hello all!! Sitting in our stateroom posting on the Wonder tonight. Trip has gone well so far but we all are a bit tired. Will give more details later. Tom sorry about missing you at the parks but had cell phone problems. Talk to you all later.

Have a great time Roger! Say, are they going to do any special fireworks tomorrow?

I feel like I'm not welcome because I can't spend 5 hours a day attempting to keep up with all of the posts. I certainly wouldn't want anyone elses last name, and, to be quite honest, am not sure why they would be on the site anyway. I thought it would just be first names, screen names, etc.

I really only had hoped to get to know a few people here before the cruise to make it more enjoyable.

I'm sorry you don't feel welcome. It is difficult to keep up with this thread - I read a lot & only post when I actually have something to say (as opposed to just "good morning" or "good night"). Sometimes I skip whole sections of the thread because I can't take the time to go back and read 38 pages of posts.

There are a lot of us, and we need to accept that anything we post here is in a public forum (with apologies to those who aren't keen on those who lurk). Yes, we hope to make new friends before the cruise. But not everyone can type well or feels the need to post 87 times a day or can take the time to keep up. I expect that we'll have more cruise-related conversations as we get closer to the trip.

And, as with any group of over 300 people, some of us will like each other & some won't. Fortunately, we're not tied down to the group and we can hang out with the people we like once we're on board.

This should be a great group and an amazing trip and I look forward to meeting all of you.

Here are thumbnail prints of the three poses we selected of Angelina's Senior Portraits. The proof with her holding the white rose will be going into the school yearbook. Hazel and I also selected that pose and the pose in the cap and gown to be made into an 11" x 14" composite for our livingroom wall. The third pose will be made into wallet size pics.

I am now busy on designing an ad for the high school yearbook at Angelina's request. I just have to wait until her portraits to arrive so I can finish. I have a feeling this is going to be one busy and expensive year..............

Great pictures! My yearbook photo looks like a skinny, nerdy bridge troll! :hippie:

Looks good JR! Q: How does one update the family travel plans?

OK, I e-mailed all my info to Lisa, but am not sure how to resend it to JR to see the website. In the meantime, my computer totally crashed. I mean totally. Nothing left so I honestly have no idea what I e-mailed to whom! Plus, first DS got sick (throwing up, 3 days), then one good day then DD got the same. Then one more good day then DH got it. I'm due to get it in a couple days so want the web site available to entertain myself! AArrrgghhh!

You should be able to send JR a PM with info. Once you can login, there's a link to send e-mail to the webmaster just under the Jolly Roger.

Good luck, and I'll think good thoughts about you not getting sick.

Methinks Esteri is going to buy us some PirateRitas in exchange for silence...eh me hearies?! pirate:

Oh my. Let me guess - first grandkid?

I can see you're going to have to have "the chat" with them.
....
I have to say, I am struck by the comment that your son HAS to grow into SOMETHING. Wow. Like a well balanced, happy individual, who is actively working at achieving their personal goals - isn't something? It's all defined by how he makes a living? Wow. There's a really interesting conversation there, between the grown ups, over a bottle of wine, or maybe two. A real opportunity to ask lots of questions, listen to each other, and share.

Yes, first grandkid. And if we have a girl, she'll become the only grandkid...I can just see it. Perhaps not though, DDad needs to have his sports apprentice because clearly, I didn't cut it! (When I was about 10 he signed me up for the base community center's basketball league. No, he didn't ask, he just did it! So I played along and went to the practices, I sucked add. My first time on the floor I got called for traveling, the next time I fouled someone. Rode the bench the rest of the time but hey, the team won first place! So after I got my trophy at the awards banquet, I slammed on the table in front of dear old dad and say "Here! There's your trophy, now don't ever ask me to do anything like this again! And he never did.)

I think what they were trying to say is that DS should have some hobby/interest besides the video games that they see all the kids playing. When we were driving through Denver and showing them Coors Field, Mile High Stadium etc they were yammering on about him going pro and sending a limo to pick them up, or dad saying if he goes to USAFA and becomes a pilot he can come get them in his private plane (at least dad dreams big! :teeth). They were yammering about DS playing footbal, our DSIL said she'd rather he play baseball (her favorite) but when I said "What about hockey? Or lacrosse?" DMom immediately dismissed that notion! :lmao: Those are not sports that she understands!

The USAFA thing was brought up because it's just down the road--literally--from us. He had envisioned me going there especially after spending all 4 years of high school in ROTC. But when I got my ROTC scholarship for college, I had plans on going to MIT. I actually got in but was medically disqualifed from taking the scholarship because of a failed flight physical (no, I wasn't going to be a pilot but back then you still had to pass the same exam). Silly me for telling the truth about my hospital stays as a kid. Not that it would have mattered, all my medical records at that time were in the DOD medical system anyway! So now, I still do DOD and transfer around a bunch...I just don't wear the uniform (but get paid more) :hippie:

Wow, JR, you did a terrific job -- thank you so much!:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Well said!

Although some of my Security folks would remind me about the refresher training we recently had. It was actually pretty decent--they updated it so it wasn't the same one we've been signing off to (and ignoring ) for the past 5 years...

Anyway, the training talked about an "adversary nation" where some little girl was going to school and they taught her to use something called "Google" where she searched around for internet chatter about weapon systems, military technology yada yada yada. Anyway, she came across some posting from some guy on a geek site and she flagged it. Then she began a dossier on the poster, used Google and other searches to get more info about him. Then later on, using that information, an "information collection specialist" was able to solicit one bit of critical information from the guy that would help the other side defeat a US ally's air defense system. And the data wasn't even sensitve or anything... It was a little far-fetched but the scenario was plausible. All a matter of how much of a footprint you have on the net. Besides, why would intel collectors troll a friggin' Disney board when they can just ask Scooter Libby? :teeth: ZING!!!

LOL!!! Too funny!!!

Now scan the picture and show us!!! I'm sure it's not as bad as you say.

Thanks for the kind words on the website. Hopefully people find it useful.

A few people (Karen and Stacy) have indicated they have a problem with the site. They both use AOL. I have made a change to the site recommended by an AOL admin but don't have AOL access here and can't test it.

If anyone else is using AOL and has an issue with the site, let me know so I can determine if the problem is AOL-specific.
