I think we need to accept the concept that most on this board are not math wizards! If they were, first we would be actually adding up the cost of the TOAL and really be in a panic. Second, the amount of time spend on DIS related matters would also go into the equation. Third, I don't know what third is, too high a number.....:rotfl:

Well, I am a math wizard, but I type faster than I think. And never proofreed.

:hippie:

Perhaps the moose should be on the hockey team with an attitude like that!:rotfl:

You know, if you have a big ole' moose sitting in goal, it would be really tough for a team to score on you.

Thanks for the info - never been to Vegas - and traveling w/4 adults & 6 yr.old boy and 2 German Shepherds presents some challenges. We'll be there from Thurs to Sun. - so kid & dog friendly is important.
Oh, calling Matt a pet is not so bad - one of my friends calls all kids "critters" !
Thanks again, Chris

Ahh....

We used to travel with our Samoyed too! On a couple occasions we flew our critter to Pennysylvania to visit family for the holidays. But otherwise we just drove him with us when we did short distance travel most of the time. And ... I will admit to having sneaked him in once or twice - and we ocassionally walked him in with the official approval of the hotel.

At any rate = I googled a list of Kennels in Vegas... (link above) and one of them had a link to their site. It seems to have a stay there runs $30 with $18 for a half day or $15 for just over nite stays. Seems kind of flexible to me - and I'd just wonder if any of that would be better then payimg the hotel and having the critter stay with ya? As you would be subject to a lot of restriction keeping the dog with ya. Unfortunately, A lot cannot be seen with the critter in tow.

Yeah that's why i'm only a landscape architect not an engineer.....

Oh wait this costs money.:rolleyes1 hmmm that $1500 deposit didn't sound too scary... Luckily there's only what 5-6 ports.. So... 10 or so days with no shore excursions....

Ah, so you just draw pretty pictures all day.....:lmao:

See, you already got off easy, we had to put down $2000

Wow. John.R.Gray. I am impressed that your kids understood the concept of saving money. :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship:

My DD16 and DS14 haven't a clue. They still think that we can afford everything there little hearts desire. Trips are just icing. DD thinks she should have a car. NOT!!! She isn't asking, she sort of demands. I keep telling her to let me know how that works out for her. She doesn't think she needs a job either. Spoiled. I tell ya!!! Which is really strange because we don't give them what ever they want. They have to work for allowance and have to pay to pay out of there own monies.

We opened bank savings accounts for our kids. The older one obviously understands more - but we did both to keep things fair. We're trying to illustrate compound interest for the kids... and Wells fargo has a kids program out here. Every time they visit and do a transaction they get "Fargo Bucks" ... and they can turn them in for different things after they save enough of that! Plus I transfer small sums regularly to simulate a vastly accelerated compound interest growth. AND they get statements in the mail too. The top prize for the Wells Fargo Bucks is a $50 savings bond ... <chuckles> ... it's probably a 20 year note with a present value of $18-25.

On top of that my spouse suggested we start an "imaginary" porfolio of companies that they can choose. NOW... at that point I admonished her that the kids can't spell yet - but the older one can add and subtract, while the younger one only just started writing her name.

The kids also have their own pink piggy banks. However, I think they mix them up all the time and just contribute to the most convenient piggy.

At any rate, we are always exercising synthetic denial with the kids. And we impress what comes naturally to us - being frugal and careful about making good purchase and spending decisions. Or - at least we try. I know we are NOT perfect - but again... we try.

And... might I add that our particular TOAL is not all that bad compared to what folks are paying for just a west coast WEEK on DCL. It is nearly the same for half the number of days! Or so it seemed the last time I looked. Yeah... I agree ... it is still a stiff sum for a trip - but it is somewhat fair as far as values go! Well... any Disney Cruise is abargain as it is guaranteed to deliver PRICELESS experiences and memories... plus we'll all get to traverse this mythical voyage with old friends from the DIS, right?

Now... how on Earth can you assign a price on THAT?!?!? :confused3

We have to get some remodeling and design work done out where we are! Maybe we can get a fair referral or something similar someday?

Now I have finished my long LUNCH. And it's off to a little paperwork then to completeing the basic bunk bed construction. I'm adding to the frame to enable it to take a full sized bed instead of just a single. This involves a little more frame strength plus... I'm gonna add a stairwell. But that won't be til the weekend probably. I'm not decided on exactly how I'll build/design it. i could use 2 stringers or keep it simple and marginal in strength. In the end I'll probably over-engineer it and do the big one... hence I need a little more time to make it.

Adios fer now folks.....;)

Will ya look at that!

Hi - this trip is to celebrate my son-in-law's graduation - he's a Monty Python fan so we're going to see "Spamalot" - and I'm not sure what else. We aso want to "mini-meet" w/The Captain.
Both my dogs are recent rescues and Max is only 4 1/2 mos. - so I don't think placing them in a kennel is an option for them. However, its good to know just in case ..... Thanks for the info.
Chris

Tom, thanks for telling me what the proper type bed I am looking for is called. I never heard of low loft beds before. I found one that is perfect...though a bit pricey. They are out there though! :) This one even has the storage space in the back that I put into my plans! I like the idea of the desk being built into it.

Just a quick remark...

If ya want to keep the price so low as to be irresistable then you might try and mix and match Ikea components. They have some kids bunk beds - one is low and only $99 (photo above left) or the taller metal one above to the right ($149). These have nothing underneath - or rather - if you leave the lower bunk out but leave most of the framing on 2 or 3 sides.

AND... my thinking is you could mix in a fitting Ikea desk or dresser below. That was in fact what we were going to do until we ran across the loft with work station which we settled on. Granted, ours is nearly full height with about 56" to the base of the upper bunk... but it is creating a huge volume of floor space in our modest 12x12 bedroom.

Below are a couple of the Ikea things we were considering using...

On the left is $249 and 49" tall... which just MIGHT fit the $99 bunk. On the right is a slightly taller chest at 52" and only $219.

And now I AM stepping away to get going on my "chores".... :thumbsup2

DW called to tell me about the tornado warning in our area! The news also said something about making sure your tornado supply kit was stocked... What the hell is that?!?!?! I've seen earthquake survival kits when I lived in California but tornado kits? Oh yeah, because of all the snow, low visibility etc. parts of the interstate (the part that gets me home) are shut down. And evidently the news folks said anyone wanting to drive into/out of Denver has a, and I quote, "death wish"!!!

I guess I'll call my boss up and tell her I'm taking off early...

Thirty more days, no driving, arm strapped to the body, will this never end???:scared1:

Thanks for the offer of the lottery. It just so happens I'm rolling in money. A Friend's (I'm not sure I know them) famliy died in a crash and left me $20 Million Dollars. I could hardly believe my luck because the next day another friend died and left me $30 million, so we're set for life. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

When this first came out I couldn't believe how many well educated professional people got taken. :scared1:

Well, I think a tornado survival kit would have to include a really, really, strong harness, some chains and maybe a big slab of concrete to anchor yourself into.

:hippie:

So did you then go off a kill another friend to see if it went up to $40 million?

:hippie:

It snowed overnight...and into today. So much so that I almost didn't come into work. Several people didn't. Went out to start the car and sweep the 8" of accumulation off the windows. Went back into the house to get ready for work. That took about 20 minutes. During that time THREE more inches of snow piled up on the car! The drive in with 25' visibility took three times as long as usual--had to cut through the Air Force Academy because some jerkoff who cut in front of me while leaving my development couldn't get his car up the inclined onramp :headache:

DW said the (wet) snow had drifted so much against the back door that she can't open it to let the dogs out. We may have to send them out the side door of the garage! Several people have plans to leave after lunch. I figure I'll do the same if the weather worsens.

Please do not send my way. I have so much damage to my flowering trees after our last snowfall!!! I read further about tornado warnings!!!! Keep safe.

Oh - I went again to the doc for my shoulder - diagnosis = " impingement syndrome of shoulder, adhesive capsulitis of shoulder, arthritis of shoulder" - they gave me a cortisone injection & more vicodin and I start physical therapy next week. Hopefully I won't need any additional injections?!!

That diagnosis says to me -"your're just getting old, girl!!!!"
Once the pain subsides maybe I'll think of it more as I'm mellowing like fine wine!!

Chris

I was on physical therapy for two years with shoulder like yours. :headache: I can still predict the weather with it.:rotfl: I hope the shoulder will get better. It just takes a lot of time.:thumbsup2
