Hello everyone!pirate:

Just got back from WDW last night. Glad to be back home but miss Mickey already! Had to drive through some of this storm. It's very nasty here in NYC today. My tulips did well. Just about ready to Bloom.

I'd like to thank everyone who participated in our DIS mini meet down in Florida. We all had a great time. Thanks to all. We had lots of cake. I was happy to finally meet you all. So many nice people. Special thanks to all with cameras. Thanks to Andy for posting pics for all to see.

I'd like to start thinking about another meet this August. We will be there for 10 days from the 20-30 of August. Preliminary dates would be Friday Aug. 24 or Sat. Aug. 25, at the Wilderness Lodge or Beach Club near their DVC Pools.

Let me know what you think?

Good to be back home hope everyone is well!

:)

Glad to hear you all made it home safe. It was a wonderful party you hosted for all of us. It was so nice getting to meet you and your wonderful family:goodvibes :goodvibes

Hi guys!!! Just checking in. I think I posted last week that we were buying a Boxer puppy(?) :sad2: Anyways, after doing a bit of research, with much advice from a "Boxer Board",we came to the conclusion that this was actually a Puppy Mill!
So,with a lot of soul searching and discussion, we decided to Not bring this particular puppy into our lives. We have to forfeit our $150. deposit, but that's better than paying for him and then having a mess of medical bills later on down the road. So, now my search begins again. Does anybody happen to know of any Reputable breeders in the state of Oklahoma. Would also consider Texas,Missouri or Arkansas. As long as it isn't a 600 mile trip one way!

Debi, sorry to hear about your puppy woes. It will be much better for you to get one from someone reputable. Good luck in your search.:)

Sounds like my DD everytime she gets to ride this one horse at the barn...

If your not positioned "just so" the horse will stop dead before a jump and throw the rider off.

Luckily DD has tough skin because i can tell you she's come home some weeks quite bruised up....Two weeks ago she fell during a jump and hit the poles and had her shoulder scraped and bruised.

One time that horse throw a smaller girl and she got pretty bruised and hurt.

These kids just get back on though...

One time of getting thrown off a horse would do me in. Your daughter sounds gutsy:)

Good morning folks!

We're back from Vegas and I saw your posts refers to the healing qualities of ... cake. Well, I'm happy to share that just a couple days ago at a Vegas buffett my spouse confided that the restuarant probably lost money on me with all the dessert I was taking! So - I can attest to the renewing qualities of cake and dessert in general!

Glad you had a great time in Vegas, Tom. Glad you enjoyed the dessert:)

wanting opinions here...
my ds's went to get a haircut tonite..... and i gotta say it freaked me out too to watch a dog attack my little guy. i think if he had done something to provoke him...it would be easier to explain...but i have no explanation for it! i kinda want to call the lady back, but i get all tongue tied...and i don't want to sound like an idiot for not saying anything tonite. i just was really startled by the whole thing! do you think it's worth a call back tomorrow? i'm not sure what to say? it was really scary...and i want her to know that i'm thinking of not using the salon cuz of this dog...but i'm not sure if i should rehash it or not?

OK - long story here folks - please feel free to skip if this is not your cup of tea! SORRY!

Hi Shannon - may be old but I felt for you and your DS. First of all - your in your right to say something - its all in how to you say it - I've found that with a cool head (although it took many lessons to find that out) you can get your point across. OK - here's my 2 cents and the reasons why I now will react that way in any near future: You have ABSOLUTELY every right to say something - in fact if you don't and in the future this dog bites someone, how would you feel if you had the opprotunity to flag this dog and didn't do it? What if it was someother mom's little boy who just like your son didn't do anything yet ended up losing a bit of an ear, eye, leg, or just a scare like yours?

Before anyway thinks anything - I have 2 Siberian Huskies who are extremely friendly (they don't know how to bark and lick people to death) but I am EXTREMELY aware that they look frightening and I take care to keep them away from people that show any type of hesitation just to avoid that. While the dog could have dome great harm, he apparantely sounds like he was just warning the dog. The owner might have been able to tell the difference but is not cognizant of other people's terror. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, to easy your mind - say something DEFINITELY - it will not only ease your mind but also might help your son see and realize that mom will do everything in her power to be there and protect her son. I would most definitely call the beauty stylist and inform her of why you will not go back to visit her, I would also check into healther regulations especially if there are kids that visit there. And if you can, take a deep breath and slowly and quietly call the owner and explain how terrified you were of the incident and that in the future you will not visit her salon do to what you feel is an unsafe condition - done politely maybe she'll realize the ramifications and the possible consequences she may avoid in the future. If she gets mad - you need to ask yourself is this the kind of person that I want to hand my $ too? Even if she does - trust me - you'll feel better for at least getting it off your chest - at least you acted. Many times I have thought after the fact and I regretted not saying anything. OK - here now are my reasons for this way of thinking:

1. DS (now 21) when he was going to be 9 was mauled at my mom's house - the neighbor had a retired guard German Shepard dog was a pet. One day while my son was playing with their kid (I was a working at the time) the boy brought out a 'ball' - decided to go get something else from the backyard, told my son 'not to bounce the ball because "Bandit" would think it was his and might jump the fence'. Well to make a long story short - the ball fell - the dog came out of the partially open gate and attacked my son - who BTW, was on my mom's property - but dogs can't tell property lines (sorry little humor to soften my tone) ANYWAYS, he ended up mauling my son - THANK GOD!!!! he didn't get the face but here - listed clinically is what he did get -and the only reason he didn't get his throat which is what he was trained to do was the fact that my son managed to put up his arm in front of his throat and face and managed to punched him in the dogs windpipe if there is such a thing. Anyway, my son was hospitalized for 3 days after surgery in which they repaired his left hamstring (back of the leg was torn open to the bone - this took over 500 stitches as each layer had to be repaired) his anus was torn slightly and needed a few stitches, his bicem and tricep was punctured and torn a little and his back was scratched. The dog managed to get my slight underweight son and when he couldn't get his throat - wrapped his jaw around the leg and shook him like a rag doll. :scared1:

Needless to say, when I was contacted - I had no clue what the damage was - I was told to go to a hospital - the owner of the dog was an RN at a hospital - when I got there he DIDN't tell me the seriousness of the situation - only that "he wouldn't allow an ER dr to operate" and that he had called in a special favor of a plastic surgeon to come in and repair the 'bite' - not until 6 hours later when the dr came out and told us of the damage (up to this point no one knew about the other bites the onlhy visible damage was the leg which I had't seen until 2 hours after I got to the ER) did I have a clue what had happened.

OK I'll shorten here- dog owner lied to me - said they'd put down the dog - since my father is a cantankerous old man who I feared might start WWIII - so I stupidly allowed myself to not call the dog pound or media to report him. Thank God later with dimenished results though - did I call. Anyway, the dog disappeared - my insurance paid for the surgury and they moved away shortyly thereafter - In one year I found out they hadn't put the dog down cuz the owner felt bed for it and thought it had been misunderstood - when I did - I then called and found out the dog had bitten someone else - lightly - not as grave but they had- also, when I found they hadn't put him down - I went BESERK!!! I utimately ended up calling back EAST and informed his wife and him that they'd lied to me and the neighborhood, I would make sure EVERYONE knew and that upon their return they would be ostrazied - they were - NEVER NEVER NEVER lie to a momma bear when her cubs have been injured! :) Anyway, I ended up suing them on behalf of my son - after 18 months - I won a rather nice hefty sum on my son's behalf - lets say that the settlement would pay his college and then some if he was able to get into Harvard or Yale.

Sorry - my point to this rather long story is this - while I was trying to be nice about this incident, I didn't know the dog's history - he should never have been there to begin with - I was thinking of neighborhood appearances rather than my son's health and last but not least I was trying to be compassionate but alas - they weren't they were only concerned about their dog and the ramifications this impending lawsuit might have on his doctorate career! Needless to say , upon returning to the neighborhood - they got exactly what he envisioned due to their lying to me and my family.

OK - sorry had to share - plus 2 months ago when I was 'walking' my dog - a neighborhood dog that had been loose all day attached my and my dog - I was on bicycle - I was thrown - hit the curb with my lower back and the 100+ lb dog back down from my 40# female husky who had gotten between me and the dog. I must admit - my feelings were rather hurt when once the dog backed down - she turned and followed it to his house across from the elementary school where I fell down - turns out later (cuz I thought it was a semi-friendly dog) that this dog barks all the time and has bitten other dogs when its gotten out - When I tried to approach the owner - they refused to come to the door although they had 2 cars in the driveway - so I called the animal control and submitted my report - I'm hoping that should something happen in the future - there will be something on file for that person to work with - I just thank GOD that I was able to recover in 2 weeks and that I was still young enough to not be hurt bad enough.

OK - now truly sorry for my long winded explanation but as you can see - sometimes things really do need to be said -

P.S. - Son is fine and we told him to tell anyone that asks that a shark tore his leg which is why he has such a large scar! He doesn't but he's still remembers the incident! Now he can laugh about it but it took 10 years before he was able to be around any dog that was bigger than a toy dog. So be careful and mindful and hope things work out!

http://home.disney.go.com/movies/pirates/premiere/

Did anyone else hear about this offer? Disney is selling tickets to the Pirates 3premiere for 1500.00 per person! Looks like it should be a fun time though. I know a few of you were going to be in the area around this time (it is the night before your meet) and thought you might be interested.

Todd,

I'm guessing you already know about this, but just in case, this was posted on our WB repo thread. With the new ink, I'm guessing you just have GOT to be there!

Hi Everyone!!

Welcome Home Paula, Laura, Mark, & Tom, Peter & Johnna!! So glad you're vacations were great!!

Yikes what a busy weekend....Can you believe we finally unpacked...TODAY! Shame on me! Well I'll never win any Suzy Homemaker awards that's for sure However, we did host a small get together last night for my MIL & SIL birthdays. My darling MIL turned 89 during the week. Bless her soul! You should have seen me literally throwing the suitcases in my bedroom and closing the door! Yesterday we (as in me and the kids) applied for passports, that took nearly two hours, then we had to get a new battery and an oil change for Taryn's car, oh and of course I had to buy birthday presents for my MIL and SIL, then host the small party.....well you get the idea of why I couldn't unpack yesterday

I have to catch up here, missed a few days, then I'll be back!

Peter & Johnna thank you again so very much for your gracious and generous hospitality!!

Later Gators,
MR

As you can tell from my birthday post...we will not be here all week! DH (Mike) is out of the hospital. All tests came back fine & he is only required to take a baby aspirin a day. He keeps yelling at me to stop treating him like an invalid. He wants to hit the road & try to get beyond NJ before the storms start to hit. I thank you all for your kind words & support! Have a great week everyone!!! :grouphug:

Glad he is doing better and we look forward to hearing about your trip upon your return!

Boring fact of the day.......

The Titanic sank 95 years ago today - I thought a cruise board was a good place to mention that.:rotfl2:

David

There aren't any icebergs in the Panama Canal though. Except in the salads at Topsiders...

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. We are really looking forward to this trip. Right now we are 11 days from heading down to WDW to begin our next cruise with a couple of days at Wilderness Lodge Villas. We have a family tradition of eating breakfast at Whispering Canyon Cafe right before we head over to the Port.

I will work on adding the banner when I get back. I am a slow learner and just getting used to posting on these boards. It took me months before I actually registered and then months before I actually posted. If all else fails both my DD's will be here in FL for a month this summer and they can show me the ropes.

Barbara

Welcome. Since you like WC so much, here's some ketchup for you!

Hey Peter the end of August is the usual time we are at WDW, this year though we will be trying the NCL Dawn out of NY. I was going to cancel to pay for the TOAL but my WONDERFUL DH has insisted ;) we do both! And me, being the dutiful wife ;) will oblige! Actually I am really excited to try a cruise where within a few hours after leaving the house, I'll be sipping a Pina Colada around the pool! There's something appealling about no flight or 18 hour drive to vacation.....this will help me gear up for the two flights for our TOAL!

Our meet was great and I'll truly miss the August one. I'll toast you all though during the same time from the Dawn!

Yes Shannon I'm here

:welcome: Aboard Stefania & Family!!

I just stumbled onto this site. I can't believe how long it is. DH and I and our youngest DD are booked on this repo cruise and are so excited. There are alot of Jersey posters on this thread. DH and I moved to Central Florida (The Villages) from Gloucester County almost three years ago. The kids are still up North in PA (just across the river). We do not miss the snow or ice. I was up in PA for snow this past February. It was nice to sit inside and look out and just enjoy it.

I know what you're talking about working in the weather (oh and also about the knees). DH spent 32 years working in the gas department of PECO. He's already had surgery on both knees. The weather just makes your jobs harder. I didn't see him for seven days during the blizzard of -- oh, I can't remember what year that was. I lost track of the number of ice storms he was MIA for. He works retail now and that is not much better on the knees.

But before we can concentrate on this cruise we get to enjoy the Magic in two weeks. The whole family (DH and I, two DD's, one SIL and two of the greatest grandkids in the world) are counting the hours till our 4/28 Eastern. This will be our fourth DCL cruise. Once we get back we will be able to begin that countdown for the repo. But, I have to do it quietly because our oldest DD pouts everytime we mention it. It won't be quite the same without the grandkids but there is no way she can miss the start of school year. The grandkids (they are 2 and 4 now) can miss but they frown on the teacher not showing up for the first week. She is taking a sabbatical in 2010 so she is hoping they run another Canal Repo that August. That one will have the whole clan of us aboard.

All day I have been meaning to start getting ready for our cruise but it was such a beautiful day here - 88 and sunny - I spent the afternoon out in my golf cart. Then I planned on just checking in for a "few minutes" on the boards and now here it is three hours later. I better search my computer for my packing list and begin working on it. When I get back I don't know how many pages I will find here. It will take me months to check it all out.

Barbara

:welcome: Aboard Barbara & Family!!

Hope the both of you jump right in and join the Shenanigans!

Hey!
I can’t believe that my first post on this thread is going to be about a dog and not Disney but ohh well!
I’m not sure if you are looking for a puppy or not but my DH used to work with a woman who was very involved in a boxer rescue in New Mexico. Not sure where in OK you are but we made the drive from Albuquerque to OKC when our son was born and it was not THAT bad of a drive. But it might have been the excitement also!! Her group is rather nutty about placements but I know they have driven good distances to place dogs. As for the age, she has had several litters of puppies so you might be able to get one rather young! If you are interested let me know and I can give you her information, I’m sure she would be glad to talk to you and give you more into!

Debi so sorry for the turn of events with the pup....have you tried searching Petfinder on the internet for a boxer rescue close to where you live? This is how we got our Chrissy Christmas Tree from Kentucky! Good Luck!

Two more shots from today's rodeo. I'm hoping tomorrow to get some better ones of the saddle bronc riders and the barebacks. These are bareback.
Oh...kind of interesting....has anyone ever seen the show "Cowboy U"? Rocco, the head boss, was in our Stockman's Club tonight.

Diane I'm SO GLAD about Mike....Have the wonderful vacation you need and deserve Pal!!

Figured this crowd would fine some humor in this....

Sitting here watching the rain and listening to DS and friend play on-line game "Runescape" and apparently cake is healthy and will heal you.:cake:

that's my kind of game!
