Any husky training tips???? We just got a 4 month old Alaskan. Slightly different breed, but a lot alike in temprament from what Ive been reading.
DH almost has her trained in Gee and Ha (sled dog for right and left) but shes still shirting in my house!
Hey there - LOL as someone said - get ready to enjoy the ride of a lifetime -
but the rewards are definitely worth it as for the shirting - the first 3-4 months were murder - we all cooperated and took her (at the time we only had 1) out about every 2 hours and as she hit 3 months extended it a little longer - we tried to never be away more than 4 hrs at a time and we worked our way up from there. At Isis' 5 month b-day - she's our first dog - we 'rescued' Chloe from a puppy mill dog store - by this time, Isis was semi-trained and she actually helped train Chloe. As for shirting - we used some droppings rubbed into turf grass to encourage them to go on it instead of the carpet. (Bitter Apple did not work for us) When they were quarantined upon coming home we put the green turf grass in the garage and to the side of the kennel. Then when they hit 1 year old - it was moved to the back yard - we have no grass in the back - all cement (we have a pool) so they were then used to going on the grass - then we placed the turf grass where we wanted it - their actually pretty good about going on it unless we forget to clean and spraywash it off. We end up replacing the 'grass' about every month or so. We use the type of grass that RV'ers use. Works great as they use the grass to roll around in - in fact - last week was the first time in her 2 1/2 years that she went #2 during one of her walks - luckily I had one plastic bag on me.
Anyway, Alaskans are adorable - lots of energy though and they definitely need it. I need to run ours (Isis at least) about 1/2 hour every day just to make her not as cranky - she loves to run and 1 day we tried to let her run herself out - after about 10 miles (we were on a bike) we were the ones to give up - and we didn't do a lot of pedaling!
On the up point? She slept like a log that night!
If you need any other info feel free to ask me - I love to share dog stories - our 2 girls rule the house - although it's an absolute must that you establish your the head honcho and not them - ours know I'm alpha dog around here - then DS (daddy) then Big Daddy (DH). BTW, I'm convinced that they now know how to spell - whenever we mention: "W A L K as in are we ready to take the D-O-G-S on a W-A-L-K - they run to the door and wait! So be careful
NOTE: I was the one that posted the pictures of a black and white female laid out on DH's pillow (she knows better than to try it on my pillow) several thousand
pages back - also the one where she's stretched out on my California King bed taking up the entire space. I'll admit - their spoiled rotten but worth all the pain - trust me - they become your other children. Enjoy and post pictures of your when you get a chance!

Not only did we have to deal with the traffic but also the SNOW up in the high desert and the associated problems with having Southern Californians--many of whom have NEVER seen snow fall from the sky--attempt to drive in the snow!

for your meeting and performance review! Just sat in on a grievance and it took the union guy 1/2 to understand what the grievance was about!

That's because they don't want to give the dog up!
That or they'll be verrrrrrrry picky in who they allow to have a dog.
 whilst I was all alone....
