Hhhhmmmm.....petsittter in VA....:)

Malley is, shall we say , BUSY. We are keeping track, besides sleeping at night and one nap yesterday afternoon, she has not sat down for more than 1minute at a time. I know, I know, she's a freaking husky! Luckily we're pretty active.

We talked to the boys before we got her that once we adopted her, she was o'hana. O'hana means family. Family means nobody gets left behind. Sounds familiar right? While the sentiment is correct, it just didn't seem right considering her heritage. So we looked up the Upik (an 'eskimo' tribe) word for family.

Nukabiitka means family.
Family means nobody gets left behind.

So the name. Malley's is a small local chain of old-fashioned candy/ice cream shops in Cleveland. We spent many kid birthday parties there, Friday nights after football games in high school & 'the kids' (in our 20's) even went there after our rehersal dinner when we got married, and we make a point to go every time we are 'home'. They have the best hot fudge in the world. And IMO dogs need middle names so, just like kids, they know when they are in trouble! Lorain is the main road through our hometown & also the location of our local Malley's. Fudge lost out to Lorain in a hotly debated family vote.

This is our second Alaksa dog with a Cleveland name. The only two places that feel like home in our nomadic lives.

OH MY GOODNESS!!! What a night. :(

Oh the joy of parenting. :grouphug: to all.

OH MY GOODNESS!!! What a night. :( I didn't get to bed until 1:30...and it wasn't because I was DISing. I was at the ER with DS from 6:50 until 1:10 am. We went to a birthday party yesterday afternoon & the kids were outside playing on the trampoline. He is use to them & knows the rules. Well, he was getting down because I told them we were going home and his foot slipped on the stepstool making him fall headfirst to the ground. He of course put his hands out to protect himself and his right hand took the impact. He came in crying and the palm of his hand was bleeding from what looked like a puncture. The kids showed the dad where he had fallen and he found a pine tree twig that probably caused it...since he also had a couple of splinters in the palm of his hand as well. I rushed home to drop off DD and have the nurse next door look at it to see if a trip to urgent care was justified or overreacting on my part. She said that it looked like it was starting to swell from something being inside the skin so off we went...only to find it closed early for Easter. A quick call to the ped on call had us going to the ER to get it checked out...where we waited a very long time. It was an hour inbetween everything...having his name called for triage & registration, 80 minutes before being called back to sit on a bed in the hallway to wait another 70 minutes to have the doctor check him out, then an xray, then meds, then move to a room. It was after midnight before the doctor came in to treat it. It took longer for the meds to numb his hand...the poor kid had the needle poked in his hand many times to get that done. :( :( :( Good thing though because they had to hold him down just because he saw what the doctor was going to use to cut his hand open to get the stick out. I worked on keeping his eyes covered the rest of the time and he was in good spirits soon after that was done. The doctor was really good with him so that helped a lot. We hadn't had dinner so I told him that he could have anything he wanted when we left. After picking up a milkshake at McD's we finally got home.

DD just went to school...not at all happy about the fact that her brother is still in bed sleeping. I am going to try to go back to sleep too before he wakes up & needs more painkillers. He has a splint since they have to treat it as a sprain due to where it happened. He is concerned about not being able to write or play his gameboy. ;) I'll check in some time today.
Lisa,

I hope your son is doing better today. What a fright to have our children have accidents and be in pain.

I hope you are doing better today too.

Take care!

Karen

They like the effects it has on maintaining their webbing free from molds. They also enjoy the bleached feathers ontheir butts without having to go to the beautician. It generally saves them alot of money.

Yes I am a petsitter in VA. I have gone to South Carolina to pet sit my first puppy that I used to take care of back home in Syracuse, NY. It is also the reason I came down to VA. Another puppy(I call all my dogs puppies). A couple I used to take care of their LAB back home moved down here to Williamsburg, VA. They were going away for a month and didn't want to leave the dog in a kennel. They called me, I had alot of vacation time to use(I worked in a hospital). So I came down here and took care of him. Decided I kiked it here so I moved down here. I am down here 7 yrs.

Why is it that in a crisis kids revert to wanting McDonald's food?
Glad DS is okay!! :grouphug:

He's worried his Gameboy skills will atrophy!!!

WELCOME HOME!!!!!

Karen, I bought into SSR ~3.5 years ago while on the Magic. My only regret was not doing it sooner.

Remember, sign by the Mickeys, date by the Palm Trees.

Weren't we going to create a Piratini??

Really? I missed that discussion were there any recipes?

I'm not much of a martini connoisseur but here are some recipes I found that are green or green-related ;)

Green Martini Recipe
6 parts gin
1 part chartreuse
Almond-stuffed olive

Combine liquid ingredients in a cocktail shaker with cracked ice and shake well. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with olive.

Green River Martini Recipe

“Green” meaning Chartreuse in this case. This herb and spice crammed liqueur was created by French Carthusian monks in the 16th century.

2½ oz. Gin
½ oz. Green Chartreuse
½ oz. Yellow Chartreuse

Pour gin and liqueurs into mixing glass. Add ice and stir to chill. Strain into a Swank Martini Glass.

Green Widow Martini Recipe
(I like this one--love Midori and even the name is kinda piratey! pirate:)

Gin and melon liqueur splashed with champagne.

2½ oz. Gin
1 oz. Midori
½ oz. Fresh sour mix
1 splash Champagne

Combine gin, liqueur and sour mix in mixing glass. Add ice and shake. Strain into a Swank Martini Glass and splash with champagne.

Honeydew Martini Recipe
6 parts vodka
1 part Midori
1 part triple sec
Lemon twist

Combine liquid ingredients in a cocktail shaker with cracked ice and shake well. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with lemon twist.
