I had one of my DSs in hospital for stiches one time (he wondered what would happen if you closed the scissors on your lip - knows now) and watched as our youth and family services personnel were interrogating a young couple in similar situation who appeared well dressed, articulate, intelligent, there with their parents (some from both sides) all concerned for welfare of child. Meanwhile ten feet away there was a teenage mom with her SCREAMING infant in an infant car seat, not buckled in, the seat sitting on top of the table rocking back and forth from the infants fit while mom was talking on cell phone, walking outside for cigarette, etc. Never once did she even try to comfort the kid. I watched as the kid vomited all over itself, choking for a minute and she never looked. The DYFS employee never gave that situation a second glance. OK boys and girls, can you say clueless?

DS was born with Mongolian Spots (aka Mongolian Blue Spots)

See the "Examples" link. Better yet, this could easily be a photo of DS's little butt! :) They should go away in a few more years. Luckily we had a fantastic pediatrician who documented them when we got home. The web site is (pardon the pun) spot on!
Because Mongolian spots can be easily mistaken for bruises, particularly by well-meaning white people who have no experience with them, they have triggered accusations of child abuse against some adoptive parents. For this reason, it is important to be sure that both your child's pediatrician and the caseworker who completes your post-adoption work record information on the presence of Mongolian spots into their records. You can assist in the documentation of this information by taking snapshots of the spots and providing prints to be included in your child's files. Since you cannot take for granted that everyone will know what Mongolian spots are, it is good advice to have their presence recorded from the start.
So appropos because when DW & DS went to see the doc for a checkup, she wasn't in but her partner in the practice was. So when his med tech put DS on the scale she saw his spots...luckily the doc or clinic nurse read the file when the tech asked if she should call Child Services!! :scared:

My DS13 is currently failing physical education. He forgot to do a take-home quiz on volleyball rules.

This is the same kid who would have had straight-A's in the fall except he got a 'C' in BAND. (Because he didn't turn in his signed practice sheets -- which we parents never even knew existed)

How do you get A's in Math, Science, Reading, Social Studies and a 'C' in band!!!

:wizard:

Success in Math, Science, Reading etc = girl's dad welcoming you into the house maybe even giving you a couple of $20s for getting her off the phone and out of the house

Success in a band = girls you don't tell mom about or dads doing this

We haven't been to Epcot or Animal Kingdom. We usually have at least one day for riding the monorail, DTD, and the pool if the weather is nice enough. When we go to a park we are there from opening until closing without leaving. We don't hop.

11/03 MK 1
12/04 MK 1

12/05 MK 1 MGM 1

I hope to keep our December trip this year even though we cancelled the cruise because we are suppose to go to Epcot with our friends. :) I want to see the Santas around the world. I am also looking forward to Soarin. :goodvibes

You will love the Santa's around the world! I don't know who had more fun when we saw them the first time, DS or me.

Hello -and good morning everyone!

I'm very limited on time - as it's Spring Break here and since the kids are free of school ... we're all gonna follow Mom on some of her business day today and monday so we can begin our "off time" the moment she is done - and when she finishes up we'll be closer to where we ultimately want to end up. We have family visiting from Maui for Easter... so this enables getting together quicker today. But this also means more driving and running around.

I'll not be on for tonights' chat - and saturday we have an Easter Egg hunt and dinner at Church so I expect to be gone most of tomorrow, then come Monday-tuesday and thursday-friday we're traveling on business then going to Vegas for a day ... partly for business and partly pleasure (we never gamble - and do NOT look on gambling as a form of entertainment - no offense intended to those who enjoy gambling in Vegas).

At any rate, we got a prety good deal for hotel in Vegas with Hotwire. We took a 4 star for only $75 (87 with fees and taxes) and got the Westin off Flamingo. It was selling for $185 + 9% taxes if booking directly when we bought through Hotwire... so the savings was a little over 50%. PLUS, the place is more our preference with a small casino and lack of provokcative cocktail hostess attire. The pool is smaler then we like but it's contemporary, mildly upscale and HEATED. So that suits us fine.

Aside from all the "me" stuff... I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. I hope to visit on the thread this weekend... probably late saturday and sunday evening if I'm not too zonked on returning home. I'll try to add another edition of 7 questions now before I sign off for this day...

The Westin Casuarina is a great hotel! I stayed there when it was the Maxim...before it was totally remodeled into a Westin and thought it was nice. Wanted to stay there for our last trip (they have a Heavenly Crib for the baby) but we stayed at Rio because the Nana was staying there. Yeah, never again. That's a really good rate too! It would have been about 60% using my special rate--but at least I would be earning Starpoints.

Have a good time and enjoy that Heavenly Bed! :cloud9:

Hello everyone,
We are sitting in the vip lounge at Misson Space with MR and her family. We are having a great time. We are really enjoying our time with the O'Blenders.
Everyone says hi.
Except ST's who can't believe that I am posting while sitting here instead of taking them on the ride.

We are looking forward to meeting the rest of the gang that is here later tonight.

Wish you could all be here.

Glad to hear you are having fun...wish we were with you!

I am so jealous:sad1: of everyone meeting right now at OKW!!

I am hoping to join the chat tonight if I can stay awake!

We got checked in and got a lite bite of lunch, we'll be heading over to OKW shortly to meet up with the others. If we're not too late leaving the meet, I'll try and post some pics of the meet, later tonight. We're in the 70's Building.........:)

I love PC - stayed there for a long weekend in the 60's back in 2004. Definately on the list to stay again!

Yes I saw them on the ship a lot in 2005 inc Palos.

On the book I have it remember LA, Cabo and Acapulco are the same along with usual Casterway, but no Aruba or Cartagena.

I picked it up about a month ago. I also have the WDW one and will get the DL version and the new DCL version in 2008.

My mother found these 3 dimensional "ball mazes" that you can put gift cards in. Once the card goes in, you have to get the ball to the end of the maze (opposite side of card from where you start) to get it out (or use a sledgehammer). She thought that was cool.

OMG - DH got those too off of QVC several years ago. So what did we do with them you ask? Well, DH decided to put my DB's money gift in one and have him open it - you see DB is alway's bragging about how good he is at things like this - he is also mentally challenged - so DH took him up on it. 6 hours later, DB still couldn't get the money out - DH took if from him and had it done in less than 2 minutes :sad2:. Needless to say, we've not used them since.

My kids usually flag and we nearly never make it to park closing unless we have a meal in the park, usually we watch a parade and for MK go back to the Polynesian or Contemporary and watch the fireworks from there.

We are going to run DSil ragged when we hit the parks! There's a reason the Olympic training center is up here at 7000 ft elevation! When you get down to near sea level, you can run a marathon and not even breathe heavy! :thumbsup2 We'll be able to walk all the parks but I'm sure she'll need a rest or two dozen!

They aren't getting rid of the Mickey ear coaster, are they? That is one of the things we are looking forward to riding after seeing it all these years. :) We plan on spending 2 days at DL and one at CA.

They won't get rid of that. In fact, they just added rock music to it, so that it will also be a "rockin' roller coaster".

I happen to LOVE California Adventure and can easily spend a day there. They have Tower of Terror, Soarin', Monsters Inc, Turtle Talk With Crush, Bugs Life, Muppet Show, the whole Bugs Land for smaller kids, Grizzly River Run, and in the Boardwalk area there are a lot of rides, and even more when they open the new Cars ride, plus they have brought back the Electrical Parade.

I love the music they play there....think Beach Boys....and the fact that the walkways are so much wider makes it always feel less crowded. And they have some great food.....Boudin's for clam chowder in a bread bowl!

My guess as to why it shows as having lower attendance is most likely due to the fact that if people only have one day, they're going to spend it in the Disneyland Park, and I'm sure that the locals (especially teens and young adults) spend more time, like on Saturdays and Sundays, at that park.

IMO, California Adventure is a must see.
