8/17/08 Captain Jack's Repossession Repo Cruise to PC thru TPC #8

Having read Laura's trip review about the Sierra Madre hike, I've come to realize that we all really need a translation guide for the Disney excursion descriptions. I humbly offer a beginning:

Journey by air-conditioned motor coach — amidst lush vegetation, gentle rolling hills and sparkling seaside views
Your bus will be driving at high speeds on narrow winding roads just a few inches from a cliff.

to a secluded spot approximately 35 miles from the city center of Puerto Vallarta
To the middle of nowhere.

Breathe in the fresh air and experience a relaxing sense of calm during your approximate hour-long hike.
Gasp madly and enter an altered mental state brought about by exhaustion, dehydration and lack of oxygen.

Snap a picture from your special perch, go for a quick dip in a nearby riverbed.
Nobody else had the guts/was foolish enough to climb that high. The others tried, failed, and fell into the riverbed.

At the conclusion of your hike, savor the flavor of a quick snack at a local restaurant (the cheapest thing on the menu) , or cool off once again with a swim in the adjacent riverbed.
Did we mention the snack bar is at the edge of a cliff by a riverbed?

Abandon all worries as you gaze out upon the natural grandeur of Puerto Vallarta's distinctive landscape
Start the trip drunk, or end it in exhausted sleep -either way, you'll have no worries.

Upon your arrival, take in an informative demonstration on the age-old production of Mexico's signature spirit, from blue agave plant to fine liquor
After your five minute demonstration, feel free to enjoy 45 minutes in our souveneir shop. Or buy our tequila (see "abandon all worries").

Activity Level Key:

Mild: Kids in strollers, older folk and wheelchairs will assure a leisurely pace. Expect plenty of delays and opportunities to spend money.

Moderate: What most people would consider active. You'll probably work up a sweat and might occasionally be in fear of life and limb. But you will survive. Expect plenty of delays and opportunities to spend money.

Active: We aren't actually trying to kill you. Really we aren't. Expect plenty of stories about your excursion - mostly told onboard by those who either can't believe you actually did it, or are explaining why you aren't still with us. Expect plenty of delays and opportunities to spend money.

Other phrases:

Due to limited availability, guests are encouraged to book early
This either means: Book at 12:01 at the 90 day mark and hope for the best. Or - This is an "active" excursion and we only have a limited number of paramedics on hand. Or - This is a really expensive and profitable excursion and saying this will encourage more bookings.

Guests are encouraged to bring cash or credit cards to purchase optional extras, such as pictures and souvenirs.
Expect plenty of delays and opportunities to spend money.

(note - yes, I'm a wimp and do tend to book DCL excursions. Sure they cost more, but it's peace of mind and low stress I'm buying - but knowing hot to read the descriptions definitely helps :cool2: ).

LOL
too funny
When I was reading the excursions.. the entire time everytime I read like the walking tours and things like at Cartegena- everytime I read "wander" here and "wander" there I thought yeah- that means walk around till you want to pass out from heat exhaustion. :lmao: Been there done that (in Costa Maya)- so I know what that wander stuff means. LOL If you see a lot of the word "wander" repeatedly in the excursion description- that means you're paying to walk around the entire time. LOL

Good Evening Everyone,
I have a question for all of those that are participating in the Fish Extender Mail (gifting). Does anyone in your cabin have any allergies such as nut allergies? This would be very important to know for those of us that maybe putting candy in our gift bags.

None here -- I wouldn't worry about it too much, though, since the people I know who have someone with nut allergies are very, very good at checking everything before consuming it.

We are back from the DVC Event...it was nice..you got there and checked in. They gave you a card and you went from table to table and collected 6 limited edition DVC pins that you put on this card and it made a little story. One of the pins was the cruise ship with Donald relaxing by it. There was an open bar (wine and beer) and soda of course...some veggies and cheese and crackers to nibble..then you went in for the presentation...they did talk about the expansion for DCA..they are putting in a new land called Cars land that will have 3 attractions..the biggest one will be a car ride thru Radiator Springs that finishes with a race..kind of like test track. They are also changing the fron tof the park to look like Los Angeles circa 1930s. We then watched about different things you could do with your points...and incentives for buying more points stc..I swore I wasn't gonna buy any more points but I love my points....anyways..there were some giveaway which we didn't win..one was a piece of art from AKL....they kind of talked about the new ships..they will have 1200 guests cabins vs the 8** on the current ships...but they wouldn't say the locations of course. We also got to see some things on the new villas at DGC. There were some performers and characters. DD got pictures taken with the characters and we can downloaad them tomorrow.

The end came and there was more drinks and coffee and dessert..and of course..you could buy points..we decided to add points (of course!) and the best part...we were rewarded with a night in the Mickey Mouse Penthouse at the Disneyland Hotel  (it had to do with the points we bought..we did not win anything) We are so excited! They were doing only 15 nights this summer and we got one of them! I was checking out the dates to see if one fell about the 15th or 16th of August (party in the penthouse!) but no luck. We are going the evening of July 12th!

All in all..it was a fun evening :)

That sounds like so much fun! Be sure and take pictures in the penthouse to show us!

That we can also buy water at.... please. thanks....

Hopefully you read on and saw that water and soda were mentioned several times as well . . .

Wow, that's great! I was wondering what time the busses will be leaving the DL area to go to the port, and how many stops will each bus make before heading to port?
Ooops! I just realized I logged in under my daughters user name. This is Michelle2

Hi Michelle, the details are still being worked out. Chris was in the process of getting quotes so that we could post rates and get final numbers, then she had a family emergency that delayed things. Once we can settle on the rates and get the final list, we can divide up between hotels (which will determine the number of stops) and settle on a pickup time. The stop for drinks will be planned in a way that makes it take as little time as possible. Finally, we need to get some info from the first few cruises to figure out what time they will let us into the terminal.

The girls, dogs and I are headed out to Connecticut to spend some time with friends who have a country house there. We will be back later tomorrow.

I will post the FE notice and list again in a moment, and will post it again with corrections when I get back, but the number of additions is becoming very small. I do believe I will be able to make a push over the next week for a final list (except for cabin numbers) completed by June 6 or 7.

I don't know what to say about people who join the thread closer to time and want to join in -- perhaps let them do so and just let people know that if they already prepared things for the previous number, that is fine, too.

Everyone have fun and happy memorial day tomorrow!

Fish extender list signup

Attention all pirates!
If you plan to have a fish extender, please PM me with your room number or GTY category
I will periodically post the list and will revise as cabin assignments come in

As a reminder: this is not a competition, and no one will judge the quality/quantity of your gifts, if you choose to give them out . . . it is about having fun and getting surprises in your fish extender. All you are promising when you sign up is that you will have something with pockets hanging on the metal fish outside your cabin door and would accept/appreciate goodies being left for you. I will also post on the pirate zone planning boards, but would prefer getting PMs here with the information.

A final list, organized by floor, will be available by a week or so before the cruise. Any last minute cabin reassignments/upgrades can be listed on my cabin door (6050) during the cruise.

This makes a TOAL even more enjoyable!

I'm chuckling about the country house in Connecticut. It sounds so romantic, like an old movie! I live in Connecticut. The weather is so beautiful today and we're having a picnic. I'm going to keep that country house image in mind. Thanks for adding to my day. I'll be a better hostess with that thought in mind.

Just wondering what people have been getting for the flight back to Los Angeles from MCO? Usually I get round-trips, so I'm not positive of what to expect on the one-way. So far I get AA at $214 (ugh) or SW at $99 if we leave 2 days later.

$214 isn't bad these days.

Airfare is way up with gas prices and all.

I would avoid AA, they will charge for every bag you check. $15 first bag, $25 for second....

Well, many people in Manhattan have an apartment here that they live in most of the time, but then also a house in CT or Long Island that they spend weekends or the summer in, and generally speaking we call those the "country houses" because they are not the primary residence. But to me and my citified girls, I am sure that your house in CT, even if it is your primary residence, would be just as romantic and exotic as the term "country house" might warrant! Yes, the weather is magical this weekend, isn't it? We really got lucky up here in the NE for memorial day weekend.

City Drive, Shopping and La Popa
Experience the magic of Cartagena during a sightseeing tour of the Convento de la Popa and the Bocagrande, and shop till you drop in Las Bovedas and the Pierino Gallo Mall.

Surrender to a spectacular backdrop of sweeping countryside as you embark on a relaxing, air-conditioned motor coach drive from the pier to the historic city center of Cartagena. During your trip, discover the fascinating history and culture of this picturesque seaport from your friendly guide and marvel at the ornate mansions at buildings of the famous "Manga" residential district. Following your 15-minute drive, arrive at the Convento de la Popa, situated high on the hillside overlooking the city and harbor, and marvel at the breathtaking views that surround you in every direction. Over 400 years old, the Convento de la Popa is a monastery that was built on the age-old grounds where local Indians and fugitive black slaves used to meet, and is arguably Cartagena's top scenic destination. Following your 20-minute visit, journey to the famous dungeons of Las Bovedas, which were originally built in the late 18th century as a means for storage despite the name, and sightsee and shop amidst the many handcraft boutiques and stores that now fill the area.

After your 20-minute shopping spree, embark on a 15-minute drive to the famed walled city and marvel at the plethora of colonial buildings and age-old fornications around every corner. Make your way to the modern residential area known as Bocagrande, home to vast array of hotels, shops, eateries, night clubs and art galleries, and snap a picture of the long stretch of sun-kissed sand and breathtaking blue water in the distance. Finally, travel to the Pierino Gallo Shopping Center, and soak up the local flavor as you indulge in a bit of shopping amidst some of the finest gold, emerald and handcraft retailers in the city. After your hour-long visit, sit back and relax as you begin your 30-minute return trip back the ship.

OMGoodness....they are around EVERY CORNER! I thought this was a family cruise!!
?

I gotta say, the "shop 'til you drop" description scares me more than the age-old fornications!

NICE.... but i kneel to no-one...

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Tell me about it..... I've got boxes of stuff that's never been opened since we moved to MD in '02

I have boxes that haven't been opened in our last 3 houses!

I like the second one best - its got more interest with the ruffles. Both really pretty though and a beautiful colour!
I like both as well, but I do like the second one better.
I for one have went from wearing the same dress for both formal nights to having a dress for each of the formal nights although one is the same as I wore last year, plus a dress for semiformal:lmao: :confused3
THey are both really nice..l love the color
I like number 2 dress..............I don't have the body for it!!!:sad2: :sad2:

The dress comes in different sizess Cheryl! :)

I didn't quote everyone, but thanks all for your opinion. If I don't find a bargain before early July, I think I'm going to get the 2nd dress, my big concern is - does it look like I escaped from a wedding party?

No nut allergies with these pirates, but I am allergic to Ibuprofen so no pain killer meds as gifts please :rotfl:

OOOHHH! If I didn't already have a FE idea, I would soooo make a "hangover kit"! Ibuprofen, alka-seltzer, etc.

We are going the evening of July 12th!

All in all..it was a fun evening :)

WOW! How exciting!

We are currently at 43 families on the Pirate Buses.

How many peeps is that??

Just wondering what people have been getting for the flight back to Los Angeles from MCO? Usually I get round-trips, so I'm not positive of what to expect on the one-way. So far I get AA at $214 (ugh) or SW at $99 if we leave 2 days later.

We paid $170-ish DC to LA.

Who are they kidding?? You don't wander on excursions, you are herded. Moo.

Phew.......just finished playing ketchup from all of yesterday's posts (have to do something while I have my morning coffee :goodvibes )

Anyway...yesterday we flew down to LA (50 mins flight) to see Wicked @ Pantages (IMHO, the cast were better than the opening LA cast). But I digress........

During the brief ride from LAX to Hollywood, we kept on seeing signs for San Pedro.......darn - all we could think about was the Magic docking today, and what we'd be doing come August :cool1:

Now back to our regularly scheduled post fest

Andy

Morning everyone :goodvibes Hope everyone is having a great Memorial Day Weekend. We went down to the pool yesterday for a bit. Nice thing here is very few people take advantage of the pool. So whenever we go it feels like our own.Maybe they thought we were bring the kids and cleared out :lmao: :lmao:

It is the end of most of the blogs. Sad.I enjoy reading them. I did come across this on one of them this morning. Anyone know anymore about it?I did learn that you can order Palo in the dining room. That was new and I will try that next time I am on this cruise.

Oh, neither of us have peanut allergies.

Hello to all the Pirates,
I am not sure if DW Caropooh has posted this or not, but we are coming too.
Last Sunday we noticed some availability and even though we had lots of problems on the site, we called DCL directly and were able to snag a GTY Cat 5.

your new shipmates are:
Me alanapapa
Caropooh DW
DD14 Disname tba
DD9 Disname tba.

PS I am overwhelmed by these threads and am not going to try to catch up. I will just wing it for now.

Welcome!!!

Two of our kids are posting ont he kids thread -- Pirana (17dd) & Elvis (10ds)

Can anyone point me in the direction of that really nice Chart someone posted awhile back. The one with the Dates and ports on Pirate paper.
I can't keep up with all the postings ( it's easier when I'm at work LOL)

Thanks,

One DS will turn 10 on the cruise, but I think DS8 is going to love Elvis. He hasn't done any real plays, but loved theater camp and the bit of acting he's had a chance to do.

That's great!!! And the only sport any of my children (except our 6dd who LOVES baseball & socccer -- we have NO idea where that came from!) know about is Hockey. :rotfl: DH watches no other sports and we usually have season tickets to the Stars.

Beautiful! Maybe the yours/mine/ours comments come from the age gap, not the number. I'll admit that was my first thought. I have a brother 10 years younger (same parents) & I thought we had a huge gap! The good news is that we have always been close (even though I left home when he was 7). He's one of my best friends and I've really been his 'fill-in mom' since he was 15.

That's the way God gave them to me -- dh used to travel ALOT for business. ;)
For the most part all the kids are pretty close. 28ds & 17dd are really close. She was born the week he turned 11 and he told everyone that she was his b-day present. :goodvibes

Okay.........Garage Sale is over!!!:headache: I only stayed open for 4 hours today. My grand total for my slush fund or lush fund for Toal from my gargae sale is $378!!!

That's great!!!! I toldmy dad the other day that I wished he still lived in his old neighborhood -- it was sooo good for garage sales!!!

Good Evening Everyone,
I have a question for all of those that are participating in the Fish Extender Mail (gifting). Does anyone in your cabin have any allergies such as nut allergies? This would be very important to know for those of us that maybe putting candy in our gift bags.

No allergies here! Except seasonal and I don't think you are bringing any ragweed with you -- that will be the time of year that it is blooming here!

Ohhh, so just the younger ones huh?
Yes, just the youngest 3 -- 17dd, 10ds & 7dd.

Can anyone point me in the direction of that really nice Chart someone posted awhile back. The one with the Dates and ports on Pirate paper.
I can't keep up with all the postings ( it's easier when I'm at work LOL)

Thanks,

I just right clicked and saved it -- I also already printed it on magnet paper. :rotfl:

OK ladies...formal shopping...
Am I the only one who can't find anything between skanky and frumpy??
I'm too old for one, too young for the other & regardless, my style is firmly planted between the two. :)

I'm wearing a dress I already have (and love) for Princess Night, but I'm looking for another. I stopped in David's Bridal today and found 2 that were decent on me. What do you think? Too bridesmaid??

Sorry, one comes out a photo & the other doesn't, but the link works. I look decent in this color and it goes with sunburn! I love red, but doesn't work with cruise sunburn.

I love the one in the link, and I don't think it's too bridemaid-like at all. I remember seeing a picture of you in a dress that color, and you looked fantastic. I think it would look awesome on you, M!

So is it just me, or did the Greenery ruin the Eric Clapton song Wonderful Tonight for an entire generation of Ohio kids? All I ever think about when I hear that song is all the lights coming on and the beer goggles coming off...

Okay here's my degrees of separation from Eric Clapton.....

He is married to my very good friend's-mom's-friend's-daughter, Melia. Follow that?

Eric has a house in a suburb of Columbus and they gave birth to their kids at the same hospital my kids were born. He says he loves the Columbus area because everyone leaves him alone.

Wow, that is a great price for AA. We paid $200 back when the first came out for a non-stop. The cheapest I see on their site today is $265 and ours is $370 :scared1: + baggage fees. I agree with Tom and don't advise AA. We would have done SW except we have school starting the next day and want to get home as fast as we can.

Okay........do I have the record of 40 years on July 13th and we knew each other over 46 years!!!!!!!!

My parents aren't DISsers but will be celebrating their 45th anniversary on the cruise - Aug 24th.

OK ladies...formal shopping...

Nope, no allergies here. But I think it's got to be hard to accomodate all anyway as there are so many conditions that people have to be concerned with, i.e., allergies, diabetes, etc. Hopefully when kids are involved, they don't just take stuff from the extenders and pop them in their mouths. I would hope it's likened to trick-or-treating and moms & dads check everything carefully first.

Oh look a Peanut !!:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
