I haven't had problems with motion sickness, but for some reason I always get nauseus that first day on the ship, probably because I tend to chug that first bahama mama.:lmao: Anyhoo, there is no way I could eat anything with ginger in it, I hate the taste. So DH bought some ginger pills and I take those and it calms my stomach right down. When we had a rocky night in October our tablemates were getting queezy and I told them to order some gingerale from room service. The next night they thanked us because it really helped them.

Me too! Even down to chugging that first bahama mama! ;) Although I haven't tried the ginger pills. I have tried bonine, but even though it's suppose to be less drowsy...it knocks me out. I can usually get by without anything as long as the ship isn't rocking too much.

Same thing I was hearing!

We've gone with a "black" color scheme so it doesn't really matter that we now have 4 different sets.

One thing to note about cheap luggage...(think Target $40 for a set of 8) is that is doesn't hold up very well. The airline handlers are very rough as well as the dock handlers. Last cruise i lost about 4 pieces to various damage/implosion. (it was the cheapy set) I replaced the larger cases we lost with a slightly higher quality this time.

For myself i am going with one rolling garment bag; one large case.

DH will get two larger cases for himself. (of course my shoes & other stuff will be in one of them. ;) )

That's what we have. All that cheap matching BLACK luggage from target. It doesn't hold up well, but I can't bring myself to buy the expensive stuff when the handlers just toss them all over the place.

DH & I are both bringing 1 large rolling case, a rolling garment, and rolling carry-ons, and the kids will each bring a medium case & 1 rolling carry-on. We might bring a duffel bag too for the booze on & gifts home, but don't know how we'll carry it?

We used to have this manager that would sign every single email with a liteny of adjectives:
"Have a wonderful, stupendous, fantastic day everyone!!!"
It used to drive me crazy.
I have to say I am really, ecstatic, thrilled, stupendisly happy she decided to find another job. :rotfl2:

:lmao:

I really appreciate when you post this Tom, because I spend so much time here that I forget to go there! :rolleyes1

I always go to the craft store and buy a roll of the most "out there/obnoxious" ribbon and attach one or more of them onto all of our carry ons and checked bags.. I've never seen someone whose had the same ribbon yet.... (i've had dog print/bright red with polka dot/tye dye in the past...)

BTW everyone... My mother has now claimed twice that airport security has hid bags from her and that this caused her to leave them at the security checkpoint. DH and i have a habit of counting everything we have before we go through and then afterwards. (Usually only our shoes go through seperately. I don't think they'd be keeping those.;) ) I put all my rings/belts/etc either in my shoe or in the bag i'm carrying.

If my Mother would do this and listen to me. :sad2: She wouldn't have had any problems....

I used to have big lime green scarfs tied on mine but the handlers would tie big knots in them (I guess they bugged them) and they got all ratty & torn. Now I'm thinking of putting some Mickey stickers all over them, but I doubt they'll stay. I wonder if I put glue over them if it would hold them better?

You know it must be something about that age - DS11 also started on a downward spiral with grades. It isn't that he can't do the work he just doesn't want to try. His teacher and I have started email communication instead of notes because some of the notes never made it to me. Now he knows he can't fool around with that anymore because of the emails. Also we have started a signature program for every homework assignment meaning that his teacher signs it and watches him put it in his backpack then when he comes home I sign it after it is completed.

I also email his teacher each evening letting her know what assignments I signed so that she knows it was completed and if he got rid of something somewhere along the way we know about it within a day instead of two weeks later

This has really helped a lot along with the threat that he will not come on the TOAL if his grades slip again.

My DS11 USUALLY turns his work in, but since he forgets to put his name, he doesn't always get credit for it. Plus he is so distracted when he does his work at home that it takes hours to get his it done. He spends more time complaining about what he has to do instead of actually doing it. Sometimes I'll walk through the dining room & his pencils will be shooting each other! "Do your homework! Do your homework!" I can't tell you how many times a night I say it! :sad2:

3 words: rolling duffle bag.

I bought 2 at Costco for about $25/each and they seem pretty sturdy, light, and big. I'm checking those and a rolling garment bag for the fancy clothes when the kids and I fly. DH is flying seperately and checking his sea bag. I can fit all of our folding clothes and shoes in that puppy.

I don't know which airline you are flying, but I was looking at US Air's baggage restrictions (which are similar to every other airline right now), but I noticed that individuals in the Military were specifically exempted from the number and weight of their bags (no extra charge). You might want to check your airlines website and see if their policy is similar. You could just take one bag each for you and the kids and let your husband bring the rest.:rotfl:

Random thought while eating my lunch:

1. Is anyone else having trouble finding a formal dress that isn’t hideous? I’ve been browsing & I’ve only been tempted to even try on 2 or 3. Everything is ugly.

2. I wish photoshop worked in real life. I’d photoshop myself onto Castaway Cay right now.

3. I want Desperate Housewife arms. How do I get me some of those? Do ya think there’s something in the water on Wisteria Lane?

4. Nougat.

If it is close-ish to us, I might be able to make 5-5:30 and have DH & kids join us a bit later. DS9 has a baseball game that should end at about 5.

Tysons Corner is fine with me & probably a bit more central for everyone. I have no idea what is around there, though.

You take off your rings for security? I wear quite a bit of jewlery and I've never set it off. 4 rings, watch, bracelet, necklace and 2 sets of earrings.

Gravely is the park just north of Reagan/National Airport just off the parkway. Great place to watch the planes come in. (Literally over your head).. Just don't leave your car alarm on :rotfl: if it's motion sensitive...

Most of the landings (or many more) take place in the 5-7 range.

Tysons has a few chain type restaurants in the mall and a decent food court.

One trip i kept setting it off so ended up just taking everything else off too. I usually put my ring on my watch anyway...

My DH takes his off but then again he and his co-workers were pretty much back-room searched before....:rolleyes1

When I called DCL a few weeks ago, they told me that I should call Super Shuttle to get to the port.

If I've booked that, do you think that is all right? or should I try to book a transfer with DCL? Now I'm confused. :confused3

Where are you staying Mike???? :confused3 :confused3 It all depends where you will be in California.:thumbsup2

I want to join in on this too. I have been good for the last 2-1/2 years with only small glitches at WDW and the holidays. I have really been making a big push since the first of the year. Now looking at your picture Laurie I think that I can take you in the first week. I now have a 10 pound cushion and I will still be in my ideal body weight range.

Not fair!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Pete

There are no new breakthroughs in the world of motion sickness. Cherie had a very tough time in 2005 off of Cabo (14 ft waves). She has since become a true believer in ginger. When we went to Alaska the next year we had purchased ginger capsules and took them prophylactically. She never had a problem. So your choices are scopalamine patch (can be sedating with dry mouth), Dramamine (dimenhydrinate) which causes sedation, Antivert/Dramamine Non-Drowsy (meclozine) probably the best choice with less sedation. Would not hurt to take along a couple of doses of Zofran ODT. I would recommend the ginger just because it is cheap and without side effects. It should be started 24 hours before departure. Hope this helps.

I am hooked on Meclozine!!!:thumbsup2 That is the drug DCL gives out!!:cool1: Our Doctor said we should just take it the whole time on ship so it keeps working if we need it!!:rolleyes1

Ummmm, like Satan Bacon?

Satan Bacon like heat and a beer!!!

Yeah but it's offset by the fact that Lynette had cancer and her boys burnt a restaurant down and Bree's husband almost killed Mike. :guilty:

I'm waiting till the very last minute in hopes that I actually lose a few pounds. I've given up on my ideal weight, but a few pounds would be nice.

2. I wish photoshop worked in real life. I’d photoshop myself onto Castaway Cay right now.

Yep me too! It is so dark, gloomy, rainy & depressing here. I'm praying for some thunder & lightening just to add some excitment to the day!

I dunno but if you find the secret...let me know! I have a feeling it involves a hunky personal trainer!

Hey i wore my $20 Tar-zhay dark blue strapless dress to a semi-formal event and i'm thinking it's good enough for this trip too...

(i got quite a few complements on it; pretty good for the $)

Good plan!
Usually those exemptions only apply to military traveling on orders, but I'll check into it. Good catch, thanks!

[When Porky's was first on HBO, my parents decided that my brother and I were too young to watch it, so we had to go to bed. We snuck back down, and hid under the Christmas platform so we could watch it. (The platform was 8X8 and took up most of the living room. It went right to the door to the dining room, so we were able to crawl in unseen.) Anyway, we got to a really funny part, and I was trying not to laugh, but I lifted my head up pretty quickly. I hit it off the tip of a nail that was poking through from holding down the train tracks. My brother had his hand over my mouth so tight that I couldn't breathe, let alone yell out in pain. So we got away with it, but it was a painful experience.

:headache:

Interesting... Last time there were many coaches from GCH, I can only say that, this time maybe as everyone is organisng their own transport it is not viable for them to do so...
