Shelley....I remember what a problem it was for you and the whole passport thing. I'm glad you found what you needed:thumbsup2 That HAS to be a sign!

My high school was HUGE....there were 900 kids in MY CLASS alone.
I really like that the classes here are so much smaller for my kids. But we've grown so much here that they now have portables at a couple of the schools. Although, if they'd build the schools the "right way" in the first place, they wouldn't have that problem. All the schools here are one story buildings, and not even all connected. The kids have to leave one building to go to another one for different classes. If they'd build a two story building, they would make much better use of the land that they have and wouldn't have to use portables. But they don't listen to the public.

That may be who he USED to work for. He lost his contract with the last company and is now considering a company that's in Omaha...where my whole family lives.
:hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: It truly would make my life easier, and I think Megan would be happier....to have all of them together.
So I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Best of luck to them!!! Everything happens for a reason!! :thumbsup2

WHY did I turn the TV on this morning and just happened to switch over to QVC. They are featuring Disney jewelry right now!

I'm trying not to spend any more morning until TOAL.

edited: had previously typed QVC jewelry, not Disney jewelry......DUH, its on QVC so of course it's QVC jewelry

I think the fates are against you:rotfl2:

I don't think they ever will............

Under the category of the strangest things happen to people I know:
My co-worker whose husband died was with her family on the way to the funeral and a truck ran into their car. They ended up going to the funeral but had to stop it to take my friend to the hospital. Apparantly she has internal bleeding. How sad she could not even bury her husband. :guilty:
Is the bizarre or what?

That may be who he USED to work for. He lost his contract with the last company and is now considering a company that's in Omaha...where my whole family lives.
:hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: It truly would make my life easier, and I think Megan would be happier....to have all of them together.
So I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

This is what we're really praying for. He's sick of working contracts, with the promise of being hired full time, just to have them cut his contracts short, with no back up job in place! The Omaha job would be a blessing, no contract, close to family, lower cost of living, and I'm sure Mom would like having another option of where to stay when she comes to visit! He's still keeping his eyes open her in Columbus though, just in case.

I finally made it to 1000 posts!
Linda and I went to lunch a few days later. Linda mentioned how nice it would have been to renew our vows on the ship or on Castaway Cay. That's when it clicked that I only asked about onboard renewals, and not Castaway Cay. So when we got home, I made Linda call to ask. (I figured they were sick of me calling by this point)

:cool1: On the 1000 posts. Who say men don't talk a lot.;)

I would love to see the wedding at CC. Make sure if you want us all to show up to mention to Tom for the newsletter where and time.:goodvibes

Here's one shot of us at the beach after the wedding

Ourvows.jpg

I renewed vows for our 32nd anniversary. This year ir will be 40.:faint:

I can also check with our wedding coordinator to see if they'll let us have guests just come to the beach for the renewal if they want. That way it wouldn't cut into people's beach time or the pirate picture if they didn't want to come back to Palo for the cake and champagne.

We would love to do this!!!:thumbsup2

I think my Mom is already inviting every Dis'er within a 100 mile radius of the wedding! We're having it here, in Ohio, but someone who really really loves me got us a Honeymoon on The Magic, to the Mexican Riviera, with a stop in DL after!

The Xena thing, is Priceless. I should get it on video sometime.

An we would  to see it.:thumbsup2

Just got back from an awards ceremony hosted by the local Masonic lodge. DD won an essay about George Washington & apparently old George was a Mason and is now quite revered by the modern day Masons. All the winners and their parents were invited to a sit-down dinner and each student had a chance to read their essays to the audience. There were a total of 4 winners out of 74 entries from the 8th grade class. DD won a $50 savings bond, $25 gift card to Staples, $10 certificate to a local sub shop, free tickets to a magic show, an invitation for the family to attend a Masonic pancake breakfast and she even won a door prize of a Foose ball table! :cool1:

It was a fun evening and everyone was really friendly and welcoming, but those Masons sure like to make a lot of toasts! I never sat down & stood up so much at a dinner before in my life! :confused3

Tell you dd that was great!!!!:cheer2: :cheer2:

aww Shelley

I myself am starting to have serious doubts about taking ANY family members with me....

I finally went out to the DCL excursion lists to look around and just looked at the Cabo ones.

Well apparently that started WW3 in that DH refuses to even consider anything that i want to do. And i'm not going on this trip to sit on the boat the whole time with his grumpy add in the room. I'd rather stay home if that's what i'd have to put up with.

Any chance dining could put my dh and dd at another rotation and let me eat with the fun crowd?

Apparently since he doesn't swim he WON't do anything that involves water or boats. (although he did do ok on the Glass bottom boat in the Bahamas)

I'd like to do the BOB's (ok no snarky quotes swabbies) or the yacht race thing or at least the Los arcos boat tour.

Does anyone else feel like they're saddled with the wet blanket?

and does your wet blanket make you feel as guilty as mine? Apparently my leaving them behind would be as terrible as trying to force them to go on the excursion.

Anyone think i've got enough time to get a divorce and take custody of the DCL TOAL ressie?

i could just scream today......:hyper:

We need to talk tonight!!!! Is around 7 your time okay???

I haven't played ketchup for the past few days and I wanted to mention Bip that I sure hope you manage to come with us!!!! I am sending lots of Pixie Dust pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: :grouphug: your way.

Glad you are getting money back.... I was just told from our CPA that I owe as much as a Cat 8 being charged for the TOAL for two to Uncle Sam this year. :mic:

We need to talk tonight!!!! Is around 7 your time okay???

i sensed a disturbance in the force..... (or is that in our case "farce")

hmmm 7:30 my time would be better (i have gym class from 5:30-6:30 but may treadmill afterwards if i feel up to it.)

One morning when I was in the hospital I spiked a bit of a temp and my Maternal Specialist (forgot what they were called) was worried that the baby was getting sick in utero so after 3 1/2 weeks of trying to keep the baby in, they broke my water. It was a very fast process from there. They were running down the hall toward L&D. By the time we got there an entire team from the NICU was already there setting up for Megan.
It surely helped that I was in a level III hospital in a major metropolitan area.
Anyway afterwards they put me in a shared room w/ a very happy woman who had just given birth and was sharing her baby with her whole family. I LOST it!!! I just burst out crying convinced that I had been unable to keep my baby safe and because of my body- she was going to die. My mom threw a HUGE fit insisting they find me a private room. I guess they felt sorry for me because I was taken to the Presidential Suite. Posh!
I am sure it is not always possible but I would think they would try to keep traumatized parents away from the elated ones.
I was so glad with Miranda that even though she was 5 weeks early she came out 8 lbs 13 ozs and I had the "normal birth experience".

So sorry that you went through all that!

LG, I had an answer for this and lost it. I realize that medicine keeps evolving and there are new and wonderous developments. My grandmother and Alan's mom both had infants stillborn or never the leave the hospital. I honestly blamed myself for the downturn Alan's mom took after Christopher died--she died several months afterwards. She was dealing with colon and lung cancer and she gave up when Christopher died.

Yes, I believe that hospitals staffs are very overworked. I don't see how they can be thorough in what they do when they put in so many hours. I think that has a lot to do with insurance co. dictating so much about medical care and also with a lot of workers relying on their overtime pay to make ends meet at home. I do think that it is irresponsible of a hospital or supervisor to have someone do a job they are not trained to do.

I never gave a thought until Julie was naming her friend's children and them all boys. And you to mention that they hope for girls when they face problems. Really makes you wonder why? I have been thinking all day about preemies I know and I have to say they have been all girls--only 1 boy. I was 42 weeks pregnant with Christopher--my dr. sent me for 2 stress tests, but I didn't know that over 40 weeks was harder on the baby. Adam was a scheduled c-sect. at 38 weeks.

I think it is a hard hurdle to get over for a young married couple. Probably a reason for divorce in a lot of the couples. It would be probably one of their biggest life's challenges. As the mother, we have so much guilt and feel that we failed in something that so many women do so easily.

Even after Adam was born, that night just kept running through my head. I didn't have the nerve to request my medical records for almost 2 years. The hospital was getting ready to disconnect the monitor and send me home--false labor then Christopher's heartbeat was lost--it took them 38 minutes to even start prepping me for an emergency c-sect (there was no dr there and it was 3 am) I sure didn't know any better--I'd never had a baby before. But you do expect when you go to a hospital that they are prepared for things---it just isn't always the case. I took the records to my dr. --he got defensive with me (I never understood why he did because he wasn't there at the hospital) To me 38 minutes was a long time--that was all I questioned. I have never gone back to him. I never contemplated suing--I couldn't have spent a dime of any money---I just wanted to hear it wasn't my fault.

I am so happy for you and Coral that you both had happy outcomes and have sweet princesses.:flower3: :flower3:

Paula words can not express how very sorry I am!

I know doctors have one of the toughest jobs known to man & they are only human. They have to rely on their education & experience to make critical decisions, but you would think that when it comes to childbirth they have seen just about everything & the hospitals would have preparation for what could happen. It is so scary to put all your trust in the medical staff to make the right decision & unfortunately it doesn't always happen that way! :sad1:

Paula, what a heart wrenching story. I am becoming increasingly disappointed with our healthcare system in this country. And, it's becoming increasingly difficult to work in healthcare.

I think you hit the nail on the head. We as healthcare workers need to step up & take responsibility when things are our fault, or let patients know that a bad outcome wasn't their fault.

I posted a story before about my brother dying in the OR when he was 9. When I was having a surgery some 20 years later the anestheologist and I were talking about my brother. She told me his case became a landmark case & changed the way children with his type cancer were anesthetized. The doctor who anesthetized him was so distraught over his enexpected death he spent years researching why. I know hearing this story had a great impact on my mother, but I don't think I realized fully until I read your post. Thank-you.

I remember that story & I can't imagine how tragic that must've been for the adults never mind a nine-year-old.

Oh Paula- I am so sorry. I did not know you have had that loss. I hope it is not upsetting to read about others that "made it". :grouphug:
I know exactly what you mean by being a 1st time Mom and not know what to do.
I went to my Dr. on a Friday morning unbeknown to me in full blown labor at 20 weeks. He checked me and I was 50% effaced and dialted to a 3. His office was on the same floor at a hospital of Labor and Delivery and he SENT ME HOME!! I stupidly went. By the time we went to the emergency room on Sunday morning I was 75% effaced and dialted to a 6- at 20 weeks! It still took the Dr. 6 hours to get to the hospital to decide what to do. :sad2:
The options were limited then so I was put in a bed upside down (deep trendelenberg) hooked up to IV's cathethers etc and I did not move for 3 1/2 weeks.
My Dr. was a total idiot and told me the whole time there was no way I was going to make it to viability and if I did the baby would die immediately. Idiot!
When I went for a followup I asked him why he did not do anything that 1st day and he said I was just looking to blame someone. :sad2: Needless to say, that was the last time I ever saw him.

Paula- you were probably like me with your 2nd pregnancy. I was too scared to be excited because they had no clue what caused Megan to be early.
I, wisely decided that 2 children was just perfect with me. :)

I also decided two was enough! I had almost no problems with my first pregnancy, except that DD did NOT want to come out. After three hours of pushing, they finally got the forceps & yanked her out.

With DS I told this story before so I won't go into full detail, but I had severe toxemia & was on bed rest for the last six weeks of my pregnancy.

During labor I had almost no amniotic fluid left, DS's heart rate dropped drastically & I was losing oxygen & turning blue. Luckily he was my second & the doctor was able to pull him right out, but I always wonder if he should've been taken sooner & by C-section?

DS went to NICU because he had a bit of trouble breathing, but was fine after a few hours. And although he does great in school, he did have minor problems with fine motor skills & speech. Is it related? I guess it's something I'll never know. :guilty:

After all that the doctors said I would most likely have toxemia if I tried to get pregant again so that's when I decided two was enough for me!

Geez I hope all these childbirth stories don't scare off the moms to someday be! Like I said, my first one went off almost perfectly but I think it helps to be forwarned that things can & do happen & stick to your guns. If it doesn't seem right, question it. No matter how offended the doctor might be. ::yes::

i sensed a disturbance in the force..... (or is that in our case "farce")

I sense a marathon phone call tonight:chat: , remember you are going to be talking to Cheryl.
looks like I get control of the TV tonight.:yay: :cheer2:

:grouphug: I'm a little frustrated with excursions and my travelling companions also :crazy2: We're travelling w/friends that also have 2 sons. The boys will be 13,12,11 and 9. My youngest son (the 9 year old) has been begging and pleading to do a zip line through the Jungle, so me in an attempt to hold onto some Mom-of-the-year votes agreed that we'd do that and the kids are all beyond excited. My friend has decided that if it's not a Disney sponsored excursion ... she won't go. Disney zip-line excursions are for ages 10 and up :sad1:

BOB's..... just too easy.....

snarky tho.......

snark·y /ˈsnɑrki/ [snahr-kee] –adjective, snark·i·er, snark·i·est. Chiefly British Slang. testy or irritable; short.

Ah, I see you are using language to be friendly to our friends across the pond.... [adopting bad British accent] But it would seem that you are the snarky one....[dropping accent]

perhaps you were going for the Tom (x2), Andrew, JR, etc. don't comment definition:

snark·y (snär'kē) adj. snark·i·er, snark·i·est Slang

Rudely sarcastic or disrespectful; snide.
Irritable or short-tempered; irascible.

Hope the rest of your day is going better.

Oh how sad. Think you can convince her? That is why I went off DCL as well. I have a 8 yo that would be VERY unhappy at having to go on a city tour with my parents while we did something fun. :)
My parents do love their city tours.

Maybe you should put earphone in and chat while on the treadmill, think what a workout 4 hours on treadmill could be! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Anyone have this happen?
Our dog refuses to go into the kitchen. It has wood floors like the rest of our house so it's not that. She will stand at the entrance and even if her beloved boyfriend (DH, Bill) calls her she won't go through. She will go all the way around to the other entrance to the kitchen but will not go into the kitchen.
Makes me laugh because my parents are forever battling keeping their dogs out of the kitchen and I can't get mine in there. :confused3
Anyone know what it could be?

I found this picture. You can tell Bill's mustache is completely crooked. That sweet man with us is the Judge. Doesn't he look like Judge Wapiner?
Although we are rather traditional people we decided to have some fun with our wedding.

P0001593.jpg

Great picture! Looks like you guys had a lot of fun! That's what wedding should be all about! :thumbsup2

wow that look way more fun than my wedding.....and i wouldn't have been so traumatized for life....::yes::

Same here! :rolleyes2

Well that is good to know! I figured I'd already missed out on some stuff! good to know I haven't yet!
And signs so far are good.... just FYI
1) Just realized DH gets his annual raise starting on the next check he gets next Thursday- it's not a ton more but it helps!
2) I was digging around for tax papers in order to file my taxes tonight (and you'll be happy to know I'm done. Yes I'm that good. LOL years of practice of doing my own taxes!) and came across important documents I will need in order to get my passport! Stuff I thought I'd have to send off for before being able to file for my passport... it's complicated but basically since DH and I remarried- I thought all I had was my last marriage license which obviously shows our last names the SAME on that marriage license- but couldn't find our divorce papers or previous marriage license- but I found the divorce papers so that's one less thing to worry about.
3) tax refund is pretty good... not fantastic because I'm usually pretty good about doing it as close as possible but it was better than I thought it would be. :)

I should take those things as a sign, atleast so far- right?
Tuesday night is the highschool orientation for middle school students- let's see how things go then to find out if it's going to be a BIG HUGE ISSUE with her missing possibly a few days of school (it's still up in the air if she'll miss any. if the rumors are true she may miss only one day, if not true she may miss up to an entire week of school) -- we'll see how that goes and whatever the news is I'll take it either as a good sign or a bad sign of whether or not we should go. yanno? :rotfl2:

(oh and I forgot to mention-we just paid one vehicle off so if we end up having to put a lot of it on a credit card "technically" we can just pretend we're still making that car pymt but put it on the credit card... so like even if he still doesn't get overtime we're no worse off than we were before just putting the same pymt on cc instead of car pymt- right? see how I "do things" in my mind? LOL)

BIP it looks like things are starting to work out in your favor so best of luck with that!

I myself am starting to have serious doubts about taking ANY family members with me....

Oh I can relate big time! I've got a wet blanket too! If it doesn't involve an organized sight seeing tour or lying on the beach somewhere, DH wants no part of it! If I even considered going off without him, he would be horrified! I just grin & make the best of it since I'm the one that pushed to go on this cruise to begin with. :rolleyes2

We're going through big boundary fights here right now. The school district lost their lawsuit over the land they wanted for a third high school so now they moved the site to the northern part of the district which means some of the 'richer' neighborhoods will now have to go to the 'older' school (built in 1975) instead of the newer school (built in 1983) or the newest school to be built. They are all up in arms over it and causing a lot of arguments.

Frankly I don't care because we are on the best districts in IL (not really saying much) and my son swims on a swim team at the oldest school b/c the program at his school (the 1983 one) is run like an Olympic program instead of the recreational program it is supposed to be.

Our district has two high schools now, each with over 4000 kids. My HS graduating class was 183 people. I enjoyed that because basically any kid could play any sport, have a spot in the musical, etc. b/c there wasn't much competition.

They closed down & renovated all the remaining elementary schools & did a ton of redistricting. Luckily my kids didn't get moved from our local school but many did. They closed down one of our middle schools right before my DD finished elementary & moved all the kids into one old & decrepid building. No fire escapes, sprinklers, and the heating system breaks down on a regular basis. The high school lost accreditation & now they are doing a major renovation on that right as DD is starting high school. :sad2:

Wow, Stace, if you are wearing those outfits on the cruise, I might just have to go find a way to get a stateroom.

Do it!!!! ::yes:: ::yes:: ::yes::
