Having the kids is what made me have to face my fears. I had to defend my children.
Jared was only about 9 months old when a scorpion stung him. I stepped on it, and ran to the phone to call Poison Control to see what they suggest I do.....when the lady asked me how Jared was reacting to the sting, I turned just in time to see him pick up the dead scorpion and stick it in his mouth! :scared1: I screamed, dropped the phone, picked him up and had to dig the "thing" out of his mouth.
When I got back to the phone, I think I'd scared the poor woman half to death.:faint: But she ended up laughing at the kid who "got even" with a scorpion.

:scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Uh, don't us adults get to stick to the Adult Code? Don't do anything, I wouldn't do?:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Mine is Do As I Say, Not As I Do!!

Don't forget the most important part..."Don't Leave any Evidence" :thumbsup2

Hey, did anyone hear there has been a huge power outage in FL today? It's on MSNBC & CNN. I guess it effected WDW!

Nope I didn't hear about it. I'll have to call my sister & see if it effected her. She lives the next town over from the Villages.

OK...

I'm just passing through ta drop a "DRIVE BY" .... p-p-posting... as I'm luxuriating in a supremely UNHEALTHY lunch.... I could not resist the urge when I drove past a Latino Market -which has a deli of sorts - that makes these huge and nominally unhealthy burritos. I ordered up a huge Lengua (beef tounge) burrito with extra sauteed onions... and that OH SO HOT sauce. And to top off my lunch I'm havin' some nice corn chips an' exrta spicy guacamole with Chocolate milk ... and a splash of Mango-grape juice from Costco. YUM! ... < "burp" > Now, no one tell Alicia as she'd have "wordds" fer me for my falling prey to such un-healthy choices for supper - especially when there's so much good an' "healthy" food at home.

OK... now back to watchin' Hayao Miyazakis' "Spirited Away" ... what a trippy animi ... I've not seen many of this type of flim but this one is definately rich in artistic imagination!!!

At any rate - here's a courtesy rerun of my half of the Secret Mickey Unveiling which I posted the other day.

THe time has come for the ....

Secret Mickey GRAND UNVEILING

If ya don't wanna know who was linked to whom - please avert your eyes and scroll past.... here is my HALF of the list - and I presume Tina will post her half of the list some time soon - and I'll probably quote this list once more in the days to come for everyone's convenience who participatated!

Thanks again to all who were involved. In spite of the best laid plans of TIna and I - I know many were swamped during the holidays - and it was perhaps ill conceived to time the conclusion of this 2 part event to coincide with Christmas. At any rate, I hope the majority had a good time. I must say, I was so impressed with the creativity and generosity of so many... plus the neighborly attention to detail in wrapping everything so beautifully. Thank you one and all for joining in the fun!

And without further delay - here is my half of the list along with page and posting numbers of 7 question replies to add extra info on their beneficiaries - and of course, these references were linked to the original (closed) BIG thread :

They knew pirates were invading.....

Look at this partial email from HoJo's (posted on the DL board). The original thread was asking about construction on the quiet pool and this is the response. No word on when construction will start or be completed on the pirate pool.

I emailed Lorealle asking about the construction of the Garden Pool. She responded back with the following info...

"from now until approximately March 31st. They are adding outdoor showers, putting up a new gate, reducing the depth of the pool to 5 feet throughout and redoing the pool deck. All of these things will help make it more family accessible. This is because [in part] we are also going to be redoing our Main Pool! The Main Pool will become a Splash-n-Spray Ground with a shipwrecked Pirate Ship that has cannons that shoot water, and a slide feature! It’s going to be really cool! I’ve seen some of the proposed renderings, and it looks amazing"!

And yes she is unable to post on the boards now. She received word from moderators that they were cutting down on "advertisement posts" and although she's never actually done anything but answer questions from us on the board, it still wouldn't be fair if she continued posting and others could not. Hopefully though she'll be back soon....

She also wanted me to relay the following
"If you want to let people know that they can still email me at Lorealle.Bishop@hojoanaheim.com- that would be really great, because I hate to think that there are people who are not getting questions answered".

Hope that helps someone.

I know our Jr. Disers differ in ages and level of maturity, but I like Tom's idea of a contract. This way, I'll know that at least some of our kids friends will be following simlar rules and if we group-write the thing we will have covered all the bases - someone will think of things I haven't. Obviously, people are going to cut or add elements based on their own kids, but here are my initial thoughts.

ETA: I guess I should add that my guys are decent swimmer and can both stand up in the Goofy pool, so I think DH & I will be OK with them 'swimming' without us.

Rough Draft

Junior Swabbie and Princess Oceaneer Lab Sign Out Contract

We know that you will make a lot of friends on the cruise and we want you to have a great time. We believe that you are responsible enough to be given the ability to sign yourself into and out of the Oceaneer Lab. If you are willing to follow the rules, you will be allowed to go places on the ship together and with your friends.

The Rules:
1. When you are not with us, you are expected to behave in a responsible and courteous manner. You will not be rude to other guests and you will behave as ladies/gentlemen. In other words, don’t do anything that you wouldn’t want us to see you doing.
2. You must be together any time you are not in the Lab.
3. You will ask the Lab Cast Member to page us to tell us where you are going when you sign out & also page us when you sign in to the Lab.
4. No one else may enter our room
5. You may not enter anyone else’s room.
6. You must have your room key, watch, and DIS bracelet (this is why we need them!)with you at all times.
7. If you sign yourself out of the Lab, you may only go to or move between the following places:
A. Deck 9, Goofy Pool area
B. Deck 9, Pluto’s and Pinocchio’s snack bars (with quick trips to the beverage station)
C. Deck 9 game room
D. Deck 9 bathrooms
E. Deck ?? Sports Deck (can't remember - where the heck is that thing?)
F. Our room
G. You may also go to a movie or show IF you find us first to tell us you are going and you check in with us as soon as the movie or show ends.
8. You will check in with Mom & Dad at agreed upon times and places throughout the day.
9. Stay out of the elevators – take the stairs!
10. No snacking after 4 p.m.
11. No room service ordering without our permission.
12. After dinner, you will be allowed in the following places without Mom or Dad:
A. the Lab
B. our room

The Consequences:
Your sign out privileges will be suspended the first time we (or anyone else) see you somewhere you are not supposed to be or doing something you are not supposed to be doing.

i like this idea, too.

We gave our kids charging privileges after about our 2nd or third cruise when I had to stop what I was doing to go buy Jordan a hairbrush because she forgot to pack hers.
They both know that they're allowed "X" number of charges for the arcade and that they have to ask before buying anything in the shops...and it has worked. They're very good about it. Too bad I'M not! ;)

Both were given sign-out when they reached the "legal" age, and we keep post-it notes on the inside of the door to the room so that we know (fairly well) where everyone is at any given time. I got a kick out of the concierge using our post-its to leave us notes!

Yes...we did have to have a conversation about misuse of the elevators, but after they saw a group of kids get in SERIOUS trouble (they "broke" an elevator and got stuck in it) they knew it could have been them in there, and haven't been a problem with that since then.
As for hanging in the stairwells.....the older mine have gotten, the more secret places they've found.....so we haven't caught them there. We tried to tell them that they were disturbing other passengers, but once they get with a whole crowd of kids, we lose a little of our authority. I'm sure that they were told more than once to scram.

Castaway Cay....as long as they each had a friend, we let them take off and do what they wanted (and Dad & I got to go to the Adult beach for the first time ever!) when the youngest turned 13.
Once or twice we ran into them somewhere along the way....and they knew when to meet us for the Banana Boats or whatever we'd planned...and they also knew what time they had to be back on the ship.

I guess we're too lenient, but so far it hasn't backfired on us.

OH MY how could you raise your kids this way - with TRUST and RESPONSIBILITY..... the horrors. :)

Welcome see answer below, after Bellelinus quote which covers as well. I might be the one who directed you here from the main cruise board.

Yes I have been on this repositioning cruises before in 2005, albeit that one was one day less at 14 days and had a couple of different ports.

My full navigators are posted on this board under planning and then navigators and on the first one there is a full cruise overview on the events and formal and semi formal nights we had last time.

Its worth looking at them but the sequence might be slightly different to 2005, for example port times at Acapulco have changed we stayed late last time and so had a Mexican deck party there, my guess thats at PV, this time.

We had Pirates night in Curacao last time as we were in port to 8pm, with other posters here we think might be the next night, but it could be Aruba, the thoughts are that we stay later in Aruba than Curacao.

The important thing its this is a longer cruise than many, loads of sea days so far more relaxing than seven night cruises and you explore the ship more, use the ship services more and there s a varied schedule of Entertainment, not just Disney productions but lots of entertainers, special guests are expected, they might come on just for one evening, fly in and out like Susan Egan last time.

The highlight is Panama crossing a long day, you need to get up early if you do not have a veranda room, and stake your claim to see the crossing, cruisers were up very Early last time say 5am to snag a place, the front of the ship is most popular, but think of deck 4, lots of spare there and you should get a view there. Additionally on deck 9 and 10 you can get sunburn and suffer form the heat, deck 4 is covered, its hot and humid there. Its a long day were diddnt finish the last port to gone 7pm.

Common issues cameras do not work in humidity straight away, and also medicines do not work as well, headache tables are a good contingency.

The folks of shutters take your pictures form the land at the ports to wave and wave and there was a very nice deck BBQ last time.

Its a trip of a lifetime, needs a bit of planing the pirate zone here is a very good recourse for support information.

I also noticed the thread yesterday and told anyone they we would be happy to help link dining!!!:thumbsup2

Andrew.....you are a wealth of information and you were one of the first to greet me with open arms on this thread.:flower3: :flower3:

I guess people have a diificult time of understanding that it is possible to make life-long friends just because of this board.

Just out of curiousity....I'm not traveling with a parent, or my "guardian" (spouse).....am I going to have to sign this Code of Conduct contract????

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Stace...I have a deal you can't refuse!!!:rolleyes1 You watch me so I don't get into trouble and I will watch you!!!:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Have you read the thread on the main cruise board, where we are considered

''overwhelming''

Yes and I added my two cents there yesterday.

Not trying to start trouble, but I'm always afraid those types of comments might scare people away from joining us so I just had to put my 2 cents in on that thread. I think I was diplomatic about it? :confused3

I guess a few of us were just being our natural friendly self and trying to just being helpful.

Thanks again for the responses!

I've been having a little trouble finding what I thought would be simple information regarding formal nights (how many/which nights) and just a generel idea of the activities on the ship. Do they do a nightly newletter type thing they do on other cruislines?

I know this is a reposition cruise, but I also know its been done before. Maybe I'm just looking in the wrong places.

Any idea? Have any of you been on these repositioning cruises before?

First off, WELCOME ABOARD!!

I'm sure someone has probably already answered this for you, but on the off chance that they haven't...I contacted DCL a few weeks ago about our cruise specifically and they advised that things are still being finalized for our cruise. My guess is that they will annouce the specifics for our cruise when they release the pre-planning kits late March/early April. DCL has announced the schedule for the WB Repo and it was 2 formal nights, one semi-formal night, a pirate night and something else that I know I am forgetting.

HTH!

I've had to catch tarantulas and giant black sand scorpions and put them in jars for the kids to take to school.
:crazy2: :crazy2:
My husband says "kill it yourself" if I see an icky thing in the house. I guess it's good that he does that, since he isn't always home when they appear.
 The biggest/yuckiest thing I had to catch was a huge white moth. Needed a bowl it was so big. I'm no where in your league:worship: :worship: Gotta make sure I know where to find you just in case:rolleyes1

Looks interesting... I'm going to show my DS & we might join you if you want company... let me know if you book...
thx,
Penny

Laurie, I can't imagine they would ask for ID . . . I would go for it . . .:thumbsup2

I'm hoping to get more info and hopefully a group of 10 before I sign up. There were only 2 short reviews on trip advisor, is that enough ? How do you tell if it is a reputable company:confused3

So, a few threads on the main cruise board have me thinking about something I'm sort of afraid to ask...but I'll go ahead and do it since we all seem to be able to respect one another's opinions and I'm pretty sure we can have a conversation without anyone being called a good or bad parent & if the discussion takes a turn, we can leave it here on this thread that is about to be shut down anyway...here goes...

We have about a million pirate kids between 8 & 12, so I ask parents - what are your thoughts on sign out privileges for your tweens?

This is the first time the monkeys have been close to an age that we can even think about it.

Last cruise in 2006, I let my then 8 year old sign out with the provision that she go only back to the room. We had walkie talkies that worked :goodvibes Our room wasn't far from the kids club so not a huge trek either.
Helps if you are having fun and don't want to drop everything to go pick them up.
Our 12 year old we let have a little more freedom, but we kept in touch via the walkie talkies. I repeated the "rules" each day because kids forget. 1) No letting anyone in our room or going into anyone else's. 2) Always make sure we know where you're going (by note if walkie talkie isn't working).

If my kids had not followed the rules, we would have revoked sign out privileges.
May not be a bad idea to sign them out the first day or so until they get comfortable with where your room is.

Just wanted to stop in to say hello again and try and catch up! With wedding planning it is impossible to keep up with this thread!

Hey:banana: Hope the planning is going well:thumbsup2

Hello!

I was asking some questions on the main disney cruise board thread and they refrered me to this thread.

I was just wondering if you all wouldn't mind helping me out with some questions my party and I have as time goes on?? It would be a huge help!

You all seem like a nice friendly bunch and I certainly wouldn't want to intreupt any of your discussion!

A little background about myself:

I'll be 28 this 2/29, yes a leap year baby. My wife and I will be on this cruise along with her entire immeadiate family and some of their friends as well. I may be new to these boards, but not to many others on the net. I regret not coming to this site earlier.

We are Disney nuts! I've been a DVC member since my junior year of college when I jumped in with pretty much my life savings! (just to give you an idea of how much we love all things mouse.)

We love to cruise, however, this is the first time we will be on a Disney ship. Which is basically why I'm seeking help from any past cruisers or those who have already made their plans.

Sorry for the interuption, and I thank you so much for any help.

Thanks!

:cheer2: :cheer2: WELCOME ABOARD:dance3:

But, I know there's some strong opinions out there about lanyards, so I guess bracelets it will be. Just know that you probably won't be able to spot DS's cruise bracelet, but just look for the kid with 20+ bracelets on.

Correction.....look for the tall, dark-haired kid with 20+ bracelets on, that will be Monica's ds. My ds will be the short blonde haired kid with 20+ bracelets on. Most of the "bracelets" he wears are rubber bands.....odd child, but I love him.

We began giving DD13, sign out privileges at 10 years old. Our rule when we first started is that if she left the kids area she could only go back to the room. If she didn't follow the rules then the privilege would be taken away. She did very well and followed the rules

The other thing that we did is to make sure we had a copy of the navigators to find out where they would be at any certain time, if it included an activity outside of the lab.

When she was 12 she had a little more freedom but had to check in with us every couple of hours if she was walking around the ship with friends. We would let her know if we were going to be at an activity, or by the pool. If we weren't at any of these places then she had to go back to the room if she couldn't find us.

On our RCCL cruise last year we used our cell phones if we had a problem finding each other. The other rule was that she would have to call the room and leave a message if she was going to be somewhere other then what we had discussed earlier in the day. We didn't use the cell phones often so it wasn't expensive but it was great to have for my piece of mind

The biggest rule was that no one was allowed in our cabin if we weren't there and she wasn't allowed into anyone else's cabin. One day we were heading back to the room and found two of the girls she had become friends with sitting in the hallway outside our door waiting for her. She had no idea we were coming back to the room as she had just gone in to get something she had forgotten. We were happy to see that she was following our instructions

Our other biggest rule was that if the ship was docked, if we weren't getting off, she had to be with us if she wasn't in the kids clubs or attending an activity they were having. No roaming the ship while it is docked. This really wasn't a problem because most of her friends were out with their families on shore excursions

The last rule we had is that they had to eat all meals with us unless there was a special evening going on with the lab. DD had to check in with us at lunch even if we weren't actually eating

We also had a curfew for them. The only time they were allowed to stay out past it is if there was a scheduled activity that they wanted to attend. On RCCL cruise they had a pool party at 11pm for the 12-14 year olds. DD was allowed to go but you can bet either DH or I went up there a couple of times to make sure all was ok. She didn't see us but it eased my mind to check

DS11 will get his first taste of sign out privileges on our EB cruise in August
DD13 will be 14 right after the cruise ends

We haven't layed down the rules yet for this upcoming cruise but it will be very similar to the above.
As others have said you know your kids best. The above worked for our family

WOW, impressive, you thought of everything:thumbsup2
