I would be interested in a city tour of Cartagena too if we put one together on our own. Otherwise we will go with one of the DCL ones.

Enjoy your day everyone

Jo

I'm not a big beach lover (grew up on Long Island and went to the beach frequently as a kid). Passing on the Cartegena beaches won't be a big deal for me:confused3

I'm trying to prepare myself for the rush for DCL Cartegna tours and possibly not getting one. I would only go to the approved shopping areas and the tourist spots listed on the DCL tours, that's good advice:thumbsup2

I am expecting to be bombarded by people trying to sell things, so hopefully being prepared for it will lessen the impact (and knowing how to say "No Thank you, no money" in Spanish):confused3

I wouldn't worry with a rush for Cartegna tours, they will cope and add extras if required, I saw plenty when I was there and the tour operators, Will be very pleased to take our and DCL's $.

If there was a problem, you could take an approved Taxi to the approved shopping area.

In the Med DCL coped with amazing booking levels for shore trips. Many cruise ships berth in this port all the time.

Laurie,
I think that any private tour our group here put together would be quite safe - but a lot smaller than the DCL.

Was yours with the guide dog then?:rotfl2: Yes in London often we do that De Niro accent. So he copied

Guide dog???? What are you suggesting -- he would have to be blind to . . . oooh, Andrew, you are going to get yourself into some serious trouble here!

Speaking of trouble, I have met De Niro and I would personally not choose to accuse him of stealing an accent from London . . .:scared1:

BTW - I mentioned in Chat last night that the heavy rain here caused our garage/storeroom to flood and the emergency sirens/ermergency message on TV warned those near the creek in our town and the town next to us needed to evacuate.
So Update - storeroom is a mess - creek waters subsided - emergency over. However, more heavy rain expected tomorrow - have no idea how to keep the water out of garage.
Also, I'm delaying my trip to L.A. until this series of storms are gone. Saw a couple of bad accidents on the streets around here and am not going to take chances on the highways during storms.

Stay safe. I was worried about you driving in these storms. Does DD have alternate plans for Matt?

Well, it looks like you all hit the ground running. :)

For those who think we singled out your thread, there were plenty of others, particularly on the Community Board.

A lot of time and effort has gone into changing the servers. The last thing anyone anticipated was this problem with the long threads. Once it was suspected they were the cause of some issues we saw, they were temporarily removed to see if it made a difference. As you can see, the boards are humming along for the first time since we switched servers. (I'm not going to pretend I understand any of the technical 'stuff.' As far as I'm concerned, a server is someone who brings your food to the table.)

I know that the long threads are somewhere and they're trying to come up with a way to bring them back without having the same problems return with them. In the meantime you, like most who participate in these long threads, started a new one. We never expected you to wait and are happy to see that you were able to pick up where you left off.

BTW, the basic premise of the poll is way off since the Mods have nothing to do with any of this. This is in the hands of our tech guys so please lighten up on the terrific Mods who volunteer their time to keep an eye on the boards.

Thanks!

Thanks for the update! Can't even begin to tell you how much I appreciate all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes by everyone - tech's and mod's alike.

I wouldn't mind if the poll was removed either...

I'm sorry to hear about that, Chris -- I keep seeing all the California bad weather on the news and wondering how all of you out there are handling it.

No dinero, gracias.

Couldn't resist, but even if he was blind, he knew you are not a Wuss.

Wouldn't be the first American to nick something from London?

GS = Girl Scouts

They sell cookies as one of their annual fund raisers. Their cookies are obviously legendary over here. They've got several varieties and all are wonderfull. :cloud9:

Are these commercially produced or do they bake them themselves? In the UK, funds were raised by "bob-a-job" week where you paid them a "bob" to do a job, e.g. wash the car, but under health & safety I guess this doesn't happen anymore.

talking of that, my son spent today with the cubs and scouts, on scooters on a woodland track, he came 2nd, in his race!!:thumbsup2

They are commercially produced but only available through the Girl Scouts.

Ok, as long as I'm still "not-a-wuss" I can take the insults (and he didn't have a guide dog!).

And the Londoners don't nick from the Americans????:lmao:

I have sent an email off to Leland Miles--the emerald man and am waiting to here back from him. :)

When I get some definitive information back from him. I will be happy to share. This is the email I sent him and his response back.

This is a copy of the email I sent and his reply. I sent him back--no mobility issues and maybe a few would be interested in emerald shopping, but most probably in regular souv. I'll keep you informed about the progress. I used 24 as a number where I thought we would be able to get the best rate.Paula

I believe that in 7 hours (10-5) you should be able to do both. Let me find
out what options are now available for Baru and beach type things, figure
out the lunch possibilities, and then work it into a full day tour with the Old
City as well.

Are there going to be any (all?) of the group that will want emerald and
higher-end shopping options? Only souvenirs?

Also, are there any mobility issues with anyone that I should take into
cosideration?

I did not even realize that Disney was going to have a ship arriving in
Cartagena in the normally "off" month of August. Let me work on this a bit
and get back to you.

So when I get an itinerary back and costs it will be easier to say yes you would be interested. And I am sure that he would be delighted to have a group larger than 24. Chris said that she would help me. :goodvibes

NEVER, EVER,

You just give it to us, McDonalds, Coke, Disney, Microsoft, (obesity, from food and siting in front of laptops) etc.

But remember it all started here, remember you speak English (albeit customized).

They are commercially produced but only available through the Girl Scouts.

In fact they are made here in Louisville at Mother's Cookies. I don't know if they are the only baker for them or not though. My BIL works there. That being said I have not bought a box of cookies in years--I would open it and before I knew what happened the whole box was gone:confused3 :confused3 Now when they are outside the stores selling them, I just give them some money for their troop funds.:)

Sorry to hear that Chris.

commercially produced, already baked

As someone else mentioned earlier, even reading these long threads causes the site to bog down. They will probably need to be split apart, locked and linked to the next 'chapter' so to speak. Again, this isn't just your thread, there are quite a few that they're looking at.

I understand that the poll was supposed to be funny, (at least I hope that was the intent.) However, it is bit hurtful to see the Mods used as scapegoats for something they had zero control over. It would have been remiss of me not to say something on their behalf.

For what its worth, I don't think the reference to MODS was intended to mean the moderators, more the techs behind the scenes who were doing the work..... We all have great respect and appreciation for what you do!

Also, feel free to remove the "poll"

(I only voted for believing in fairies!)
