That is so disgusting! LOL! And I

I was just going through some of our trip pictures. We went to universal Studios for a few days after the cruise. I saw this sign at the Kwik E Mart by the Simpsons ride and thought of all you bacon scrum folks out there!

YUCK
Just turned on the TV. It was on the Travel Channel and the guy was visiting New Zealand. That's not the yuck part. He was relaxing with a beer and a meat pie.......an opossum meat pie.....

I don't know when the last time you tried to find out about outside Insurance... BUT, alot of things can not be held against you any longer. Just an FYI.
Private Insurance is expensive (I know DH's company pays 3/4 of the cost for their employees). I have a friend that just has very basic Insurance for their family (her dh is self employed) and their premiums are around $1,000 a month.
We don't forsee dh ever retiring. Cutting back, yes. When he is around 75 or so (that's what his dad did). His parents still want good Insurance so, his dad still *works* for the company (Chairman of the Board) he gets paid next to nothing (I think it is around $25,000 a yr) BUT, they get to stay on the Insurance! They are both in extremely good health (they are 73 & 76).
FIL's side of the family lives forever. His sister (she was in her 90's) that died last year didn't even die of natural causes!!! She tripped on something while getting out of bed (she lived in her own apt in one of those *assisted living* buildings) and when she fell she landed very hard on something that damaged her inside (liver? spleen?).
MIL's brothers have lived well into their 80's while living totally on their own. Her older sister (she's in her 80's) lives in her own home in MS.
No one in my family lives that long.
If anyone is interested..we are planning a reunion of sorts at WDW this coming summer...there is a place to vote for your week of choice (Thanks Diane!)

UGH.....I know what you mean, Cheryl. I am always aware that I am only one short step from loosing my insurance and not being able to obtain coverage.
Several of my treatment bills got sent directly to me instead of the ins. co in error and between surgeries, $20,000 a pop every three weeks for chemo, and then $12,000/wk for radiation, I could have easily lost my house before my teatment plan was even complete. I truly feel for your friend.
I will also step down from my soap box because I have some pretty strong opinions about some of the issues surrounding this and am sure I'll end up offended someone![]()
Beleive me I know Cheryl & I have different opinions -- and that is OK with me!

That is terrible. I know in TX (I don't know about other states) you can file a form of bankruptcy that is for medical expenses. It can protect your assets. My brother (the one that has Lymphoma) had to do it a while back.
BTW -- he got new insurance just a couple of years ago and he has had Cancer before.... I really don't know how all that insurance stuff works. Maybe they put names in a hat to see who gets insured and who doesn't!![]()
I know all about expensive meds -- my mom has had Breast cancer, a couple of stints put in because of her heart, high cholesterol and I can't remember what else! most of those things were before she was 60!!! Her mother had open heart surgery & breast cancer before she was 40....... My grandmother was my age when she died.
My mother is 67 and she is older now then anyone else in her immediate family has lived -- the funny thing is that a couple of her Uncles (by blood) have lived to be in their 80's!
My mom is 5'2" / 90lbs and only eats red meat about once a month. The rest of the time she eats only vegetables, fruit, yogurt and fish. She has eaten like that for about 20 yrs.... She has never (in the 40 something yrs that I've been alive) snacked or eaten any junk food. She just has rotten genes.![]()
Oh, I know. I wasn't talking about you guys.
Keep your fingers crossed...we may have sold the last house that we want to get rid of..... That will free up quite a bit of money a month!!!And it is money that we plan on using for VACATIONS!!!!!
Hi Folks,
Sorry to hear about the insurance problems.![]()
I guess I was lucky that my first job out of college was in a hospital admitting office. I had some training with different types of insurance so that I could be knowledgable enough to handle the patient's paper work. The advice I got from my fellow co-workers (I was the new kid and they took me under their wing) was to make sure I always had good health insurance and to never let it lapse between jobs. That plus the fact that my DH (then boyfriend) was diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia at the time really made me more aware than the average kid how important health insurance was.
I guess I'm lucky that I've never had big health insurance problems-![]()
Even when we had big bills for my DS's health problems (NICU when he was born and hernia surgery when he was 7 months-not completely covered by Ins.) we were able to work out payment plans with the docs and the hospital![]()
I know a lot of things go into the decision making process with health insurance. With the progress of new treatments, surgical techniques and drug options comes bigger medical bills and bigger insurance costs. Plus, since it costs a fortune to become a doctor (medschool bills, malpractice insurance, etc.), all these things add to medical costs and ins. costs. It gets complicated because there are so many variables.
Wish it was easy for everyone guys![]()
Your entitled to your opinions![]()
I love a good debate with an exchange of ideas because I always learn something that way, but I've also learned the hard way that not everyone likes to debate![]()
You're safe here though. One of the things I like so much about this group is how tolerant and respectful everyone is![]()

Is everyone bringing their children??? I'm trying to decide if we want to leave a couple of them at home when/if we do any of the European cruises......
I think Claire would have to be 20 before she would enjoy the tours! LOL! I know because her oldest sister wouldn't have enjoyed them either before she was 20!![]()
Who you callin' old?!?!?!

Our kids are coming with us. They'll be just short of turning 13, 11, and 11. I'm hoping that they'll be interested in the tours. We're trying our best to show them that there's a big world outside of the Philly suburbs.
