8/17/08 Captain Jack's Repossession Repo Cruise to PC thru TPC #15 /Life After the PC

In real people terms Andy.............John has lots of video clips from our mini DVD recorder of what happened in Rockin Bar D many nights with lots of fellow pirates. It is slow loading the video clips on to the computer. It took about 1 and half hours for each mini DVD. He still has three more to go. How do we put these on Smug Mug. This needs to be easy like a book for dummies!!;) :goodvibes If you could private message John or me..........we would love to share.

PM sent.

Andy

I'm loving all the pictures on the site.
Steph I am sending you a pm :lmao:

I think one of the problems is people don't realize the area is so vast. On a map everything looks so close together but in reality it is not. Luckily, my DSis and DBIL have cruised in the Caribbean before and knew DCL keep us out of harms way.
good point! It does look sort of squished up on a map!
You should be happy...

I got an e-mail from my Mom:
:lmao: :lmao:

Hi, I'm new to disboard. I met Lisa/John(i think) and a few others in diversions.

One of the best cruises ever. I hope everyone had a good time.

Tom, those are great.

I had a message on my cell phone the last night (when I could finally get my messages) from my sister. She was in tears she was so worried about us. She'd seen pictures of the hurricanes and just couldn't understand why cruise ships sailed in the Caribbean during hurricane season. I called her from MCO to let her know we were fine. :sad2: I guess I could of joined you both in the banging on the door.

I guess my mom trusts DCL more because this is the e-mail I got from her:

I'm glad that Gustave won't affect you, but there might be other tropical storms. I'm sure they know what to do and have had other experiences with storms. Thanks again for the E-Mails and pictures. See you soon!
I love how all the moms though were all concerned about the hurricanes.

We loved ours as well. It took great pictures in and out of the water. It came in real handy for that awesome storm on Panama Day. We also used it for snorkeling in Aruba and Castaway Cay. I especially loved the underwater pictures of the kids.

We had no problems, but on Panama Day, someone (it may have been Reinny??) told us that they were using their Olympus underwater camera in the Goofy Pool and water got into it and it became unusuable after that.

When I snorkeled, I kept it above water until it was time to take a picture. I probably looked pretty funny holding one arm above water the whole time.

I don't care how "waterproof" the camera was supposed to be, I was afraid to put it under water too. :)

That was too funny.:rolleyes1 That clip made me realize I made the right decision not to go on Jolly Roger(but I would go next time to watch everyone else).

We were screaming at all the kids "Let go!!!!" They got so close to the boat it made us nervous!

Fabulous shots!
The last one looks like he's walking on water.......LOL

There is one of my DD that looks like she is walking on water too. I showed it to her and she thought it was hysterical.

Hey! Welcome to the boards. If you have met some of us and still want to post- all the better!!! At least you know what kind of nuts we are! :cool1:

Hello everyone and I still miss being on the MAGIC with all of you... That said.. let me tell you about SYRACUSE NY TODAY...

Wind last night was so erie that it was HOT to go for a walk. Today we wake up to 49,000+ people in my area without power thanks to Hurricane IKE.. now we are in the middle of the state.. Yesterdays temp was 91.. today a VERY COOL 60... we had power so i didnt know to much happened.. No rain. but the wind got to about 59-70 mph... MY POOR tree outside.. well outside, inside, down the street..lol... I have a 66 mustang covered in the driveway... well, that cover was totally twisted off. My sons school district had a 2 hr delay.. He asked me to take him to school (goes outside the school district) on the way to his school.. they closed our area schools.. So we go down the road.. limbs, tent, cabanos shelters all over the road.. and than.. um mom.. you just drove over a downed wire.. I put the brakes on and stopped.. Why, I have no idea.. did I want to see if we really could fry??lol...No damage.... Lights out most of the way to the highway.. now his school is about 20-25 min away.. ABSOLUTLEY nothing on that part of town.. Its like they have a dome over their town..lol

So anyway.. my prayers to all those that had really strong winds and damage from these hurricanes.. never did we have such strong wind without rain before..

So since I was home and its quite here I had a wonderful morning watching the pics on the PIRATE ZONE.. thank you to MIKE, KIM, PDARRAH,ANDY, MONICA AND STEPH for all the great pics you posted. It was great to relive all the memories again..If I new how to do it.. I would post mine as well.. sorry, not that talented..:confused3

To FATHER MIKE... church just wasnt the same on Sunday without the BUENO VISTA THEATER as the back drop.. yet alone the 65 min service..lol:goodvibes

Since my sons school district is closed.. I do have to pick him up again at 245 today so there goes my nap today,.lol

Also, for those that knew it.. I did my frist 5K on SATURDAY.. it was the BUD run so the beer was flowing after the race. I seriously cried when I crossed the finish line. Those that know what I have gone through over the last 11 yrs know what I mean.. for me to be able to walk... was a great challenge.. so never say never!!:) Now my sons tell me we can do the DISNEY 1/2 marathon in 2010. he is so funny...

For those that i got to talk to, I love reading your posts .. I can hear you talking..lol ie SHELLY!!!

My family either
1). realizes how a cruise ship works or
2). could give a rats behind about us...... We didn't get a call or an email from family! :rotfl2:
Although when we checked into the GF I had a message from a friend (she is also myTA) telling me that she hoped the sea wasn't too rough for me. She knows I get motion sick.

Same here and I have still to hear from anyone in my famiily.

I'm glad to see my family isn't the only *non caring* family. ;)

Chuckles...

... I think of the folks I've had similar discussions with - it seems most families have family members and friends who are less than concerned with our safe returns from travels. And it is clearly the tiny minority of families who are blessed with doting and curious family and friends. In my case I have have a mixture of ultra concerned family members and family who stick to thier own business and seem to not have any concerns as to ANYone elses' comings and goings. So we got both extremes covered in our case.

Welcome%20ML-P3-teds.jpg

Well Johnny.... may I extend a congratulatory WELCOME on the occassion of your 1st posting to the DIS! I couldn't agree more... that the PCREPO was certainly one of the most enjoiable voyages we've taken. Ifonly I had shaken that cough and tender throat earlier.... ;)

Speaking of camera's........for the crowd who purchased the Olympus 850SW (or similiar underwater types)....how did you like it?

Any problems?

I loved mine and it was especially nice to be able to have it around water area's, or in the water or in the rainstorms without having to worry at all.

I do have a few shots that I downloaded that show a water spot on them.

Just curious...as I know quite a few bought these for the trip.

olympus-stylus-850-sw-thumb.jpg

Well...

.... I shot only 2100 images on this voyage ... and of that only 1/7th were with the brand new Olympus 850SW. I too was cautious with it in the water and kept thinking I don't want to suffer an accidental failure of the seals on this brand new digicam. SO I was regularly checking that the latches and covers were all secure.

As for how it performed... well I'm not completely done evaluating it - however my initial impressions are it operates slower then my other pocket digicams. It recycles slower, focuses slower, shutter trigger is less precise and the lag after tigger depression is notably worse. Plus the IQ (Image quality) is softer than I epected. I guess that overall it is a step off the regular pocket digicams I am used to using otherwise - however, it does things that none of my other digicams do .... like go underwater... survive being dropped ... and possibly being stepped on! And THAT is nothing to shake a stick at! In THAT espect ... if we ran a comparison all my better performing digicams would have "FAILED" and been left unusable while the Olympus 850 would soldier on!

We bought this camera with our kids use in mind. I don't swim - so our in the water use was never a major consideration. It was 1st and foremost a drop and crush resistant design that won our consideration for this model.

olympus_mju_850_sw_2.jpg

Thank you all.
Monica, I usually do my crying in the shower. ;) That way none of the kids see or hear me.
Once dh gets over the crying part (his crying) he's good at keeping all of us entertained. He's great at telling funny stories about people and he is a good kind of smart aleck -- not mean, just funny. So, that always makes me feel better. :goodvibes

Steph, I am so sorry. I know what your going through so if you want to ever talk PM me and I can give you my number. My dad was dx with pancratic Ca lastyr on the Sept 19. A year ago today we noticed his jaundice. Since I am the RN in the family, I too am in charge of the medical desicions... I took him to EVERY chemo tx 5 dys a week for 9 weeks I think it was.. I found great strength in my faith and also, talking to friends like the ones I made on the dis boards. No one can imagine the trust that he has left to you.. Talk and dont be afraid to ask questions.. ANd like I said if you ever need to VENT.. I am here..

...[ed]...!!!

I found your comments of conditions in your neck of the woods - gripping. WOW! To have wires down and not LIVE was a lucky thing as I imagine that can pose a real life threatening risk.

I am almost reluctant to quote a posting I made last nite of our weekend. It was busy but nice for getting together with friends and doing sort of modest (from some "angles") activities.

Gee...

... it has grown quiet suddenly. Well... I was just passing through to look about. We skipped DL today on account of being a bit tired from yesterdays' beach BBQ we hosted (Saturday). We had 5 families on hand for a total of 16 souls. Being that schools started we had most of the beach to ourselves - and the temps were tolerably cool with a bit of a breeze. We made hot dogs, korean BBQ beef, curry chicken, BBQ Beef ribs (I made them and they were only so-so), plus salmon burgers. Here are a few pix:

i16CF9002-2D02-43EE-8FD7-22BF6C155A36.jpg

i5CDC4DDA-CD92-4446-A597-169AEEE5061A.jpg

So ... we did compromise having skipped DL but had dinner with about 15 friends and family tonite (Sunday). Over supper Alicia and a girlfriend of hers (Jennifer - pictured above in brown leather jacket was also at the beach with us) made tenative arrangements for them to join us on the Big Island in April... and possibly to take a girls shopping trip to Hong Kong ... without the spouses or kids. So tonite was spent investigating a few travel combinations of dates and hotel deals for Hong Kong. It looks pretty good for a 5 nite stay in Hong Kong at "5 star" property .... anyone interested in going with Alicia and girlfriend to HK for a "Girls only Shopping trip?" is welcome to PM me for the proposed travel details. Although Alicia is English speaking only... Jennifer is fluent with a couple dialecs of Chinese.

Aside from that ... we're starting to develope the conversation with our friends and family for sailing/booking Disney in a few weeks ... for a 2010 sailing of some sort!

OK... I'm only semi-coherent.... it's late and time fer me to turn in. I'm beat from the past 2 days... plus the soccer games of saturday morning. Whew! Our 7 year old girls did fantastic scoring 6-1... while our little 4-5 year olds did so-so scoring 2 to 6. Oh well... time to turn in!

Cheers, and we hope your weeek to come is a perfectly pleasant one!

Tom

At any rate... I have a few minutes to lurk about here... so maybe I'll be able to catch up a bit finally....

Tom, I saw your post on the other thread and am so tempted by the HK trip. I love to shop and have made trips specifically to go shopping. If I weren't in the middle of a job hunt, I would love to join the girls. It's certainly something to keep in mind should my situation change soon.

On the Olympus camera, I'm please with it. It was under water the entire time I snorkeled at CC. No issues what-so-ever and it still performed brilliantly the rest of the trip. I just need to figure out how to do the editing on the underwater pics to take out the extra blue and green hues. I know Roger gave some instructions but those were for Photoshop which I don't have.

My week home has been less then spectaculer.....

I've been sick (like so many of you) -- luckily it waited until the last day of our post cruise wdw trip to affect me! And one of my brothers told me this week (turns out he found out the day before I left but, didn't want to spoil my trip in any way) that his Lymphoma is back --- he was first diagnoised in 1998.
He came over yesterday to ask me to be his *person in charge of medical decisions*. He told me that he doesn't trust my dh or our mother to actually ever let him just die. ;) They would try to keep you alive forever no matter what the situation! LOL!
I guess our other siblings and our father were knocked out of the running for other reasons. :)
He also knows that I would care about his S/O's wishes.
.
I have the gift of not getting emotional when someone I love is hurt/sick, etc... I bawl like a baby during comercials but, I'm told someone I love is in medical trouble and I'm a rock. Dh on the other hand crumbles. ;)

We do know that wonderful strides have been made in chemo treatments -- last time db came close to dying because of port infections, not the cancer.

I know you will all think good thoughts and prayers. Thank you.

Stephanie

I'm only now reading this and I wanted to convey my most gentle supportive sympathy. I too have family members with issues - one very similar in fact - and I've been the primary care giver to my Mother who had multiple myeloma - a rare form of cancer. So I know something or other about these things too - as so many here can echo.

Please know that from my family you have our understanding and resolute respect for having been entrusted by your brother with his affairs.... and you have our heart felt sympathy for the challenges and conditions you are now enduring. We do understand and offer you our prayers.

and now I offer .... respectfully...

a deliberately distracting consideration....

Please forgive my humor.... it is intended to bring anote of levity to an otherwise serious conveyance...

Monica...

.... you'll land something sooner than you expected. It may not necessarily be a JOB you land... ( wink ) but you'll land it pretty soon! Ok... enuf of my silly brand of humor....

OK... let me stifle the chuckles a moment here.... and let me say... once you get things squared away you can return to silly planning for silly things like a shopping escape. Frankly, you're soooooo lucky in Alicia's eyes to live soooo close to the macy's flagship store in SF. I have NO DOUBT in my mind as to WHY I have no desire to move towards San Francisco. Yeah... Alicia would certainly bankrupt us if she could get to that store as often as I suspect she'd hit it.

Seriously.... Hong Kong ... or where-ever it is that is your favorite shopping destination .... these places will NOT go away. And we all have had our easy times and had times when things are mildly in suspense if ya KWIM. I remember when Alicia was working for a company that LOST IT'S INDICATION (approved usage) .. and abruptly there were several hundred sales reps without any job. She went scrambling for another job - gently elbowing with her ex-colleages for the same interviews. And eventually she took a job that was related but unlike what she wanted. That endured for a few months before she stumbled upon switching to the company she's now with. That was 10+ years ago... and I say everyone has ups - downs - and sideways wrangling times. May I suggest your upswinging days are likely just around the corner. NO! I meant ... THAT corner way over there. NO!... .. not that one ... that one. < wink >

... OK... please forgive my being a bit silly. I'm just in one of those moods this morning. Alicia insisted I have the OLDEST thing in the fridge to eat this morning and I'm in a wierd sort of funk. That ham was pretty old looking that I ate ... and only now I'm beginning to wonder why she did not pack herself a HAM sandwich too.

cyEYEgif.gif

< silent chuckles with confused eyes darting left to right >

PS... when ya get settled with your next great employer - drop the suggestion to Alicia its' time ta go shopping in Hong Kong again and I'm sure I'll be sending you sarcasticly thankful PMs! Alicia would love to plan another shopping foray then... right?

I keep telling myself - she is a good frugal shopper. That's WHY she was so stern about encouraging me to eat that old ham in the fridge.... :rolleyes1

And seriously... on my secret list of places I'd love to relocate to is San FRANCISCO with the eclectic populance and huge Chinatown with all those great restuarants! Plus I love the weather and scenic nature of the region. If only it cost half as much for a home there.... or if only they paid twice as much for similar work? Oh well... it IS indeed a wonderful place to LIVE. Wonderful - wonderful - wonderful!

< Edited In >

I stepped away to cook something FRESH for lunch ... seeing as all this thought about that HAM was making me think I needed to have something OTHER then the LAST of that ham for lunch. You see... this might reduce the need for having my stomach pumped later today if I sort of mix it up with something fresher.... < steady silent grinnin' > Oh well... so I had this ground turkey that was just past it's "use by" date... and I cooked it up with a box of hamburger helper type stuff for making stroganoff. I mixed it with a fresh onion and now it's simmerring for LUNCH. So ... no .... it wasn't Turkey Joes today. I didn't have any sauce to make Joes - otherwise I would of made that instead!... < wink >

...[ed]...

Oh! I forgot to share this story.... 1am on our fist sea day after Aruba my phone rings. It's my parents, and I'm not partucularly interested in talking to them at 1am. I don't get to the phone in time, so they go off into the either. I double check SPOT to make sure that the HELP or 911 button didn't accidently get pushed. Phone rings again. Now, if they're calling twice in a row something's wrong...

"Hello?"

"Hi, it's mom. (OK, dad's in the hospital) Hey, SPOT hasn't had a track in about 10 hours. Did you know there are hurricanes in the area? What are you going to do?"

Now I ask you, what on earth am I supposed to do with this information at one in the morning? Stomp. Stomp. Stomp. Bang. Bang. Bang. Captain Tom? Sorry to disturb you. My mom just called. She wants you to know there are hurrincanes in the area. And she's worried. Just in case you didn't already know.... Pthththt.

"Mom. The captain isn't going to take a ship full of kids through a hurricane. We'll go around. And SPOT doesn't always work well on the veranda - it can't see enough of the sky. So we have to take it to the open deck to get a really good track."

"Oh. Okay. Good night."

Sigh.

.

That's a great story Esteri!:lmao:

My Dad tracked your SPOT during the trip. I got an e-mail that weent a little like this:

"It's 10:38 PM and your friend's dot is still showing that you guys are still in Aruba. I'm not sure what time you were supposed to leave. Your Mom and I were worried that yoiu're stuck there because of the hurricanes. Please e-mail us back right away to let us know you're OK and what's going on!"

Guess I should have gone with you to bang on Capt. Tom's door to find out what his hurricane contingency plan was.

These stories were simply hilarious! I mean that respectfully. < wink > It's so charming to hear of the concern voiced by your families ... and .... wistfully ... I can say it'd be NICE ta have more of that kind of concern from SOME of my siblings or parents. But then again... my Dad is pretty old... and Alicias' parents were with us on the ship.

The mystery meat inthe fridge.. I was so glad i emptied my fridge out before we left. I did however leave money for my daughter for when she got home. Needless to say.. it was still empty when we got home... but she had a gret time out for 2 weeks...i have this issue with drinking milk near its due date..lol It is so gross to drink spoiled milk and that smell never does go away.. I hope you soon recover from the ham.. but tell me waht that hambuger helper much better??:confused3

Well, the antibiotics seems to have finally kicked the Disney Crud into touch:banana:

The photos are now sorted, so just need to get Paul to upload them

Would love to join you guys on a repo in 2010, but will have to make do with the last Baltic Cruise, or the "phatom cruise" I've seen Andrew speculating about on the main board.

I hope all of you that met Ike over the last few days survived relatively unscathed

Hi everyone! When I got back from the trip (and the 5 night following and a few days at WDW), my father had to have triple bypass surgery, so needless to say, things have been crazy and this is my first chance to log in here. He seems to be doing well so far, and was moved out of CICU today and into a regular room.

First of all, thanks to everyone for the friendly interactions, wonderful fish extender and other gifts, etc., on this cruise . . . what a special one it was.

Julie...

I'm glad your Father is recovering well from the triple bypass. Now-a-days folks who have this procedure do really well with good diet and exercise. We'll be sending tink with some pixie dust fer your Dad just the same to be sure things go right.
