Hi Gang,

I'm back from the 5 day - and I was sick for most of that cruise and am stiff sick - fever - resipiratory - deep chest cough - yuk!!

AND - I had quite an adventure getting home on Mon - 1st delayed in Orlando by weather - then - finally went Jet Blue to NY/JFK - and not too late - so we're on board Jet Blue to SFO - and taxi out - and then they announce that we must go back as the Captain has food poisoning!!! Okay - long - long story short we are now delayed 2 hours to get a new captain - and finally get off the ground on the way to San Francisco. However, my plan was to take an Airporter over to where I live and have DH Paul pick me up - Except - I was getting in so late that my poor DH had to drive all the way to SFO to get me. I figured that I ended up traveling for almost 20 hours!!!

I've been trying to catch up while I've been in bed recuuperating but I gave up and decided to just jump in and say hi!!

Gosh - It was so great to meet so many of "our dis family" - and I'm so sad that I missed meeting more of our "dis family"!!

Love to all

Well that just stinks. :( Hope that you are better speedy quick! :grouphug: It was so nice to spend those 15 dinners with you and your family. :) Now go get some rest!

Hi Everyone!

Long day today - Monday is the day I get DS9 after school (my mom takes Tuesday and my neighbor handles Wed-Fri :thumbsup2 ) and getting his homework finished and cooking dinner was majorly stressful. This is the first time I've cooked since we got home (DH grilled a couple times & we've had take-out! :lmao: ) and of course someone came to the door right after I put a couple chopped onions into my largest pot with some oil (making chilli). By the time I got back to the kitchen I had seriously burned onion and spent the next hour trying to get the pot cleaned out since it is the only one large enough for chilli! DS9 was being a pain about getting going on his homework and actually spent over an hour doing a single math worksheet that should have taken about 10 minutes. WHY doesn't he get the concept that if he just DID it, he would have more free time to play?

Pamela

They are usually about 19 or 20 (after they move away to college) when they learn this. :rotfl2:

Hi Jennifer, have been meaning to send you an email to see how your mom was doing. We really missed you at the scavenger hunt and really wanted to thank you for the goodies :thumbsup2 . We had some stiff competition with Aly and AJ autographs but still had a good turn-out.

Cheri and I were talking about this as we waited in the Aly & AJ line. ;)

I am at work trying to get motivated for our monthly staff meeting, but it just isn't happening. I am listening to my CD's from my FE. Brings back such good memories. I still have to find the instructions for uploading/downloading photos to smugmug. I enjoyed looking at all the ones that are already on there. I have quite a few for the food porn gallery (right Arlene). And I realized I missed quiet a few of the signs and art around the ship. I didn't have one of Goofy's or Pluto's.

Stephanie, I was sorting through my FE gifts and found the princess antenea topper and put it on my car this morning. It will make me think of the trip and you often.

We weren't with the other DISers on the DCL Best of Cartegena, but our headphones worked great. Not very comfortable, but we could hear the tour guide all along the way in the old city. I have a picture of the St. Teresa church and the street named after me (OK maybe it was named after the saint, but so was I). And according to Cheryl you guys didn't get the opportunity to walk along the wall. The view was fantastic from there, almost as good at at La Popa. We didn't get much time to shop, which is fine with me. I did get some postcards, coffee, the coin set and a doll for my daughter. The folks at work said the coffee was very good (I don't drink coffee).

I have to get my photos in order so I can start scrapbooking. I took the disposable underwater camera to be processed the other day and the pictures should be ready tomorrow. Brett only went snorkeling once in PV. We both have trouble with not being able to see without our glasses, but he said he did get some decent shots. So we will see.

I am anxious to see what the 2010 sailing schedule is. That will probably be our next cruise, for our 10th anniversary.

I wonder if there's any truth to the rumor that after drydock the Laundry rooms will be run by Vista Spa. They realized that the rooms are hotter and more humid than their existing saunas, and that they can therefore charge more. I hear it will be $95 for a half hour session in the laundry room, including one wash and two dryer cycles. A special couples package for $180 will include an hour, two washes and enough dryer cycles to actually dry your clothes....

Chris, I LOVED meeting you and your family!!!

That's my system as well.
And when they can't find their (fill in the blank), my only response is "It was in your pile".

Hey, I said that yesterday to 10ds! :rotfl2:

The 1st encounter w/ Sloth-Man was in the shopping center by Mr. Emerald's office. I had read about Sloth-Man on CC so I was not surprised to see him. My youngest Miranda is a HUGE animal lover so she held the sloth. I got out the camera to take a picture and my $. I tried to give him a 1 $ bill and he said "$5 DOLLARS"! I told him I only had $3 and he ripped the sloth out of Miranda's hands and it grabbed her hair and pulled it hard. I was not happy.
When we got back on the bus and went to LaPopa our driver told us there was a Sloth-Man there and it was only $1 to take pictures there. We did and he was great! We ended up giving him $3 he was so nice. We also gave Donkey-Man $1 and Miranda rode the decorated donkey/mule/burro kind of thing.

Yeah, I was a little worried about the sloth and had a mixed (wow-cool/eww-gross) initial reaction to it. But I was pleasantly surprised by how gentle the animal was when he sat in Kelly's arms:confused3
But you're right, probably better to avoid contact with animals in a foreign country (especially when you can't be sure of their health status)

Last night while I was reading this board dh turns to me and says *I wish I had held the Sloth. I just didn't have any small bills on me.* :scared1: I am SO glad that he didn't know (at the time) that I had $1's & $5's on me!!!!

Roger - I agree on Madison she was a doll. I didn't have a whole lot of interaction with her but the times I saw her around she always said hello and was very pleasant

Yes Madison and Austen are great. I miss my Steak Buddy too.

Hope you had a great time in SF next time you come up we must do lunch or something.

anybody thinking about the aug 2010 repo. i know there was a lot of people on the cruise that was on the 2007 repo also. i will probaly book the last cruise before the repo and if the rates get really good like in 2007 i might go on that also but the northern europe is priority this time.

But you are right, some kids just do better academically regardless. Funny thing is that it doesn't predict who will do well career wise necessarily. Both my brothers had problems with school and both are doing well job wise

Steph it was so funny. There is my 11 year old DD "protecting" me from the locals, lecturing ME, "Don't look Mom !!!" and telling the locals "We're not interested, no thank you". Sometimes she acts like she's 40 and sometimes like she's 2

Steph, I think a number of us are hard of hearing and that may have been a factor I saw Becky twice, but both times she was traveling in the opposite direction I was and we were pressed for time I kept telling myself the next time I see her I'll introduce myself, but I was out of luck

You are right about academic success not always being a good indicator of success in life/jobs!

Too funny about your 11yr! LOL!

re: hard of hearing. That actually makes me feel better! I know it makes some people a little nervous when someone is too outgoing so, I really tried to not overwelm anyone. But, for a while I thought it was just me people didn't want to meet/know! LOL!

I was so happy to meet you and get to know you...Richard still thinks I am crazy that you, Cheryl, Laura and I came upstairs to go to sleep and ended up chatting in the hallway for another hour :rotfl2:

:lmao:

and on another note: I wish i knew which kiddos you guys are talking about (and who that one girl is that I asked about in a previous post). I need pictures next to the names so I know who everyone is talking about! LOL

Bip! read last nights posts! LOL! It was Devon (K's dd)

It is hard for some people to believe how attached a person could feel from just meeting over the internet.;) I know if you lived near me ........Cherie and I would be great friends but at least we can be friends from afar. Who know...maybe you can even stay with us in Florida when we build down there:thumbsup2

Dh & I both like Rodger alot and I thought Cherie and I would definately be friends IRL, too! :thumbsup2 I agree that they are great! LOL!

DH & I have been meeting Internet friends IRL for about 14yrs now so, everyone already knows that we are crazy! LOL!

That was our favorite too! What a fun group!
I credit the group that day with 2 things. One was I was shocked when I was putting my fins on that Miranda was just taking off on her own. She had snorkled once when we were in Aruba when she was 3 but it was really rough seas and she did not like it.
Secondly- I was actually in the water! I HATE water!!! I have been to a lot of the hot snorkel places in the world and refused to get in the water.
I actually had fun. I would never have done that had it not been with a big group of friends. Thanks guys!! :thumbsup2

That would be me. I went on a bus tour in Aruba. ;)
I had thought about signing dh & 17dd for the Pirate snorkle but, dh wanted only DCL excursions.

I wish I had met more people and done more group things. I'm pretty shy when it comes to meeting people and lots of times will just smile at someone and wait for a reaction. I did meet quite a few wonderful DIS'rs though. I know Andrew met and interacted with quite a few people.

I enjoyed meeting you and your dh! It seemed like I was always *on my way somewhere* and didn't have time to really talk to people. kwim?

Morning all! I so want to be back on the Magic with y'all! We could all help out at dry dock! :lmao:

Steph, what Coral said! LOL! It didn't seem to make a difference. When I heard the lady she was always coming up right behind us.

I didn't move it. I'm innocent ( well as innocent as you can be at my age!)

Oh yeah. OK the traveling menagerie of odd things/animals!

Hey Devon! How is school going? Kaitlin misses you!

I did take some pics. I think they were only in the lounge, not Diversions. Will try to upload them to the site tonight or tomorrow.

It is hard trying to explain to the people I work with that I felt that I was among friends. They would tease me about my "internet" friends. Even Kaitlin understands it now too. She was the worst about it! :lmao: I know that running into and hanging with everyone made this the most awesome vacation I've ever had!

:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I was looking at the wonderful books, you made me, last night. :goodvibes I love the pics of your family!
If you don't still have my info I'll emial you! For next time you are here visiting Brett's family!

What can I say! We are fun people! LOL! I think that was the night that when I got to my floor I ran into Rodger & Cheri and talked to them for a while longer! :rotfl:

We spent most of our 30 shopping minutes up on the wall looking around. I was amazed at how wide it was. It was very beautiful there...and there were no venders wanting you to take a picture with them. ;)

cough.jpg

yeah...

... I was surprised to find folks saying this same cough was making it's rounds back home on our return too! Oh well... it's back to school nite tonite... and trash day tomorrow ... so I have to finish pick up of the trash around here before we head off to school to formally meet the new teachers in our daughters' 2/3 class.

Anyone have an opinion as to if it's a good thing (or not to have your kid in a combination 2 + 3 grade class? I used to think it might be good to expose her to 3rd grade work / students ... then again, if it were my child in 3rd grade mixed with little kids ... would the opposite hold true that my 3rd grader is slowed down with 2nd graders mixing with my child? It's a case of the "glass being viewed as half full or half empty". What are the most meaningful factors in play here? I'll compare notes when I return as I'm sure our teachers will have a "pat" answer to these sort of questions.

Cheers to all, from

Tom

Tom, both my kids wound up in this type of mixed class and we were less than thrilled with them:sad2:
Regardless of whether the child was in the older half or the younger half of the class, the teacher was stressed trying to teach 2 different curriculums. My DD had a very good teacher and didn't really suffer, but my DS had a teacher that wasn't really great and his class did:rolleyes1

I swore after watching my DD's teacher (who was a model of organization and hard work) rush back and forth between the groups that I wouldn't let my kids be in another mixed grade class again. I didn't need to worry because they did away with them at their school after trying for a few years and having many complaints:confused3

It isn't the end of the world if your DDs end up in one, you'll get a mixture of teachers over the years. Some great, some very good and some ok:teacher:
Kids learn to manage with what they have:upsidedow

We too had a son in a mixed class last year and the experience was so horrible that we pulled him from the school altogether. We did this only after talking to the principal, assistant principal, the regular teacher and the so-called parapro on numerous occasions. No action was taken after our meetings. My wife volunteered to be the room mom at the beginning of the year and the teacher never wanted her in the classroom. When she finally made a suprise visit, we knew why. It was chaos. While the regular teacher taught 5th grade math on one wall, the parapro taught the 4th graders simultaneously. With two teachers talking at the same time, how could the kids be expected to learn. Plus the 5th graders were allowed to roam while the 4th graders were being taught and vice versa. We know of others who pulled their kids from the class. Granted, with the right teacher, it could have worked out and been great for him to be exposed to the 5th grade curriculum. Unfortunately, it was a bad situation made worse by a inept teacher (who thankfully is no longer at the school) and an administration that looked the other way.

I got in trouble with the man with the sloth...earlier in the day we saw a different one and he wanted $1 for a picture..DD did not want a picture...so later we saw another man with a sloth and she said she wanted a picture by him by did not want to hold the sloth...so I said no problem..we told the gentleman what we wanted and took the picture..I tried to give him $2 for being so nice about holding onto the sloth near Tori..he got angry and said it was $5! :scared1: I felt bad but seriously only had $3 on me..we didn't take much in with us and only bought a couple of things..he tossed my money back at me and said $5 again..I told him I only had $3 and tried to give it to him...I thought he was going to throw the sloth at me :confused3 He finally took the $3 and I felt bad and it was my fault not to check first but I really thought it was only $1 or $2 as everyone else that day had been only a couple of dollars.....so...no more pictures for us! I practically ran to the bus.

Too funny....we had the same experience with the fruit lady at the fort. She wanted $5 and I only had $3 easily accessible. After taking the $3 she finally walked off mad.

I wonder if there's any truth to the rumor that after drydock the Laundry rooms will be run by Vista Spa. They realized that the rooms are hotter and more humid than their existing saunas, and that they can therefore charge more. Isn't that the truth!! Even at 4:30 in the morning, it was hot in there!

That was our favorite too! What a fun group!

Wish we had done the Jolly Roger at Aruba!! We didn't sign up for the Jolly Roger as our oldest has always been terrified of the ocean and fish. We did the de Palm island tour. After about an hour, he decided to try snorkeling and he loved it. He spent so much time there and was disappointed when we had to leave. He then asked me to sign him up to snorkel at Castaway Cay.

I appologize if this happened because I would have said hello if I had heard you. :) I know that there were a few days thre was so much going on that I had to run over it in my head before I moved on to the next thing. I was in my own little world other times just relaxing.

We were the high 170's to 180 or so! LOL!

The line was incredible when I walked by to do the Scavenger Hunt.

When we were in line for customs...Aly & AJ were directly behind us. They chatted with Tori all the way thru the line..it was a nice ending for the cruise.

Hmmm...wonder how long before DCL gets them to delete that information from their site like they did when DISers found info on the Med?

Apparently, it's been removed from the site according to the 2010 DCL thread this morning. Eagerly, waiting for Oct. 7 here to find out the details.
