8/17/08 Captain Jack's Repossession Repo Cruise to PC thru TPC #15 /Life After the PC

I logged in to check mine yesterday and did NOT have a duplicate charge on the 1st for my one charge in Aruba. I did not use my Disney Visa (I used Capital One) - did everyone with the problem use the Disney Visa or was it a variety of different Visas?

Pamela

We used Disney and didn't have a problem with the two charges that DH made.

We had it with both a BofA Visa debit card and a Boeing Employees Credit Union MasterCard Debit card.

Sorry for all the griping. Between all this and all the bad news on the economy, I'm just pretty down in the dumps right now....

Sorry to hear about all your hassles Pamela, thats no fun and it all seems to come at once.

I really enjoyed hearing your voicemail on the podcast - I was biking home when they said a voicemail from Pamela from Chicago, and I immediately thought of you. I was thrilled to hear you - that was cool. (I'm a little behind in my listening).

I hope everything sorts itself out for you soon.

Hey all - figured I'd post here too since as of this moment, I had all the threads I subscribe to as the last poster. Ok - I'm weird like that. :lmao:

That or l like to see my name all over the boards. :lmao:

Morning all! Hope everyone is doing OK. I'm sitting here waiting to get a "live" person at the pediatrician's office. Kaitlin had me pick her up early from choir practice because she has a sore throat. She took a nap when we got home and I took her temp and it was 102! :scared1: Gave her some motrin and it went down some. I think she has strep. :scared1: Uck! And we are suppose to go to Wash DC tomorrow. Hopefully I can get her in early.

Teri, Sydney is such a cutie! Glad to hear she is doing so well.

I guess my cruise vacation ended whenI first got back. Gave all my Sleepy mints to my co-workers!

Today or yesterday "returns" were posted to my account for all the duplicate charges, so the statement shows $xx as a purchase on the 1st and $xx as a return yesterday, net of $0.

Not sure if this was the way Disney Visa handled my dispute or did Aruba Visa bank figure out their mistake and credit back

Nothing we were aware of. Had to be the Dispute credit.

Hi Everyone,

Sorry I've been missing for a few days. Lots of bummer stuff here. Dan & I went through a nasty head cold - first him, then me - which wiped out about a week for us. Then we just started having tons of stupid breakdown type problems. A fan on our furnace is making really bad noises so we had to shut it down until we can schedule the repair guy (fortunately it isn't too cold yet, so we don't have to do an emergency call). Then my parent's sludge pump broke (got that fixed right away!). Then Dan's office laptop suddenly died - he backed up about a week before, so its not a disaster but it is a pain to get everything loaded on the new one (and he is in all day meetings this week!) This culminated in the worst problem - my car overheated on Monday and is now officially dead! The head is warped (either the emergency light came on too late or this is a problem that has been slowly building up that we didn't know about) and they can't tell without pulling it if the engine block is cracked. It could cost anywhere from $2200 to $8000 to fix and it is a 2001 minivan, so not worth throwing that kind of money into it. :sad2:

We had planned to buy a new car in the spring (Dan's car will be paid off in March). This is just a really carpy time for this since we still have a little debt from the TOAL on the credit card (at least it is at 0% - special offer from Discover with a very low transfer fee!) This puts a kink in having much of a downpayment (plan for spring was to have at least a couple thousand to put down) and if we have 2 car payments from now till March it's going to be that much harder to pay off the debt. We also have to figure out what to do with the van - see if a junk/salvage place will give us anything for it or maybe donate it. Having this hit out of the blue was a real shock. The car had seemingly been running just fine.

Sorry for all the griping. Between all this and all the bad news on the economy, I'm just pretty down in the dumps right now....

Before the cruise we had to replace the alternator and battery, big bill and when we got back the car started overheating as well. Hoses, flush the system another 300. Yes my brakes nees to be replaced but we were thinking about trading it in before we got back and wonder how desperate the dealers are to make a deal.

DS is flying out to Anaheim this afternoon for the WOW convention. He and his long distance GF broke up about 4-5 times and he thinks he will see her at the convention so he is really nervous about this trip. DHs brother and niece are coming in this weekend and hopefully the weather will hold out for maybe an Epcot trip. This is the frist time we will have seen them since his DW passed away in Feb.So it will be an emotional visit as well.

Filled up today for first time, cost me $19.00 and averaged 48 mph

Cool. But the hybrids are too costly for us.

So yesterday was our first 'take the bass to school' day. What a PITA! DS10 has a 1/2 size base and it barely fits in our Explorer! So our guest room is now "the conservatory" :rotfl2: DS keeps his bass in there, so DH pulled his flute off the closet shelf and DS8 set his keyboard up. Unfortunately, there aren't many pieces written for bass, flute and piano.

More excitement - DS8 is playing a hockey game at the Verizon Center next month! They play a 4 pm full game (scoreboard, goal lights and horn, etc.) the night of the Caps-Rangers game, then the NHL game starts at 7 pm. Folks whose kids played last year said a few of the NHL players watched part of the Mite game and visited the locker room. It works out well since we were going to the Rangers game anyway - there are 2 Alaskans on the team, so we show up for warm up with our flag.

Hey, are those gold medals in your sig pics?

Yeah. They give gold medals for 99th place.
Actually the 'finisher' medals from the EE race are very cool. They open up into a compass.

And no, it doesn't point north.

Hi Everyone,

Sorry I've been missing for a few days. Lots of bummer stuff here.

Well that all sucks.
Here is some pixie dust :tink:

Congrats on the Prius! ALthough I would love one, I don't think it is worth the premium prices their getting here for them...

Certainly anything will get better gas mileage than my poor van! However, I only drive about 15 to 20 miles per day on weekdays (all "city" driving) and probably less than 15 total over weekend so the savings wouldn't be quite as dramatic for me. I currently get around 15-16mpg. I'm guessing it would be less than $100 per month savings in gas. Given my amount of driving, I'm not sure it is worth the premium price for a hybrid. I'll probably go with a small SUV (CR-V, RAV4, etc) or a small sedan which will certainly be better than I have now. (I think most of the small SUVs and sedans get around 20-25 for "city").

When I got my Mustang I really really really wanted the GT. However, the giant engine gets about the same gas mileage as my Explorer. So I didn't get the GT. I get about 20 mpg...and everything around here is "city" driving, even on the highway.

I usually go through 3/4 tank of gas just on weekends getting to and from hockey events. :scared:

Gee P..... Your news is just up there with mine.... :hugs:

We were undecided if we were going to cash out one of DH's 401K's or just roll it over and take a loan from the current account...

We decided to roll it but they wouldn't accept or process the loan paperwork until the money was transferred. In the two days since i gave them the paperwork we've lost close to $1,500 of it.....

If i would've known that. I would have just cashed it out.... :headache:

...................................................................................................

I did get a temp position today. Nothing great (only about 1/2 my previous salary) but it beats $0. (and no I don't think it will lead to anything i want to do for the rest of my life either. :scared: )

So at least we'll be able to pay back a few bills and keep the house for a few more months...

Ok , I'm off to figure out how to apply for a couple federal jobs... Wish me luck.

Just keep pluggin' away K, you never know who you will impress in a nothing job that might lead to something better. Dream job will come eventually.

I hear ya on the 401K. I got totally hosed on the part of my 403b that wasn't vested yet with my last employer.

Filled up today for first time, cost me $19.00 and averaged 48 mph

Teeny tiny gas tank!

WOO HOO!!!! The union and Boeing are going back to negotiating!

I would like to see your name in lights and on the list for a mini meet next August 15th.:worship: :worship:

I still have a tiny bit of rock candy left :sad1: lol

I think Brendan and I would be up for that...1st anniversary trip maybe???lol

Chrissie

I must confess I probably have 5 rocks left of candy.:rolleyes1 :rolleyes1

How about a mini meet for your honeymoon around August 15th at WDW!!!!:woohoo: :woohoo:

Well Kaitlin doesn't have strep. But she has this virus that is going around that has all the symptoms of strep, but its not! So that sucks. So I guess we will be doing childrens motrin for a while. She is pretty perky, so we will still go to DC. The school has 1/2 days today and tomorrow so if I keep her out tomorrow it will only be 1 day all together.

Oh yeah, saw gas for $2.91! Maybe it will go lower.

Glad Kaitlin doesn't have strep! The kids are all passing something funky around...hope she feels better soon!

Funny thing: Reading the sandals site of the resort we are going to for our honeymoon..they have a PIRATE NIGHT! :lmao: I know it won't compare to a DCL pirate night..but I found that amusing..wait til I tell Brendan!

Chrissie

Yeah, so is most of the stock I own. :sad2:

Well, I got my defered comp statement last night. I'm 5K poorer! :scared1: I'm trying to tell myself that I'm in it for the long haul, but yikes. Next will be the retirement statement, that's gonna hurt.

I've also got some shares of GE, don't want to know. :rolleyes1

Any Pirates looking at the Northern Capitals Cruise??

Really need to crunch the numbers to see if it's possible, with the airfares/:confused3

We're looking at it. Linda and I love the itinerary, and would love to be able to do it on the Magic. We're going to transfer our onboard rebooking to 7-18-10 and see how the numbers come out. We'll also compare RCCL for a similar itinerary when they release the rates for 2010. And like you said, the airfare will also play a big part in our final decision. Hopefully, we'll be able to swing it...if not, we'll be moving the ressie forward again.

I know what it is like to hope for strep so that the doctor can give your baby something to make her feel better fast. :grouphug:

I wish that we were under $3.00 here...I think that it is still at $3.77. :( Very frustrating when it is at $3.50 an hour inland...and even more so when I see the prices elsewhere.
