Cursed or Just Living in HE double hockey sticks ? you be the judge...

Got home at 6:00 Monday. The ex had been over at my request to get the boys schedules for school. He sent a detailed email, sharpened the pencils & left the mail on the counter... As I was reviewing the school mail I saw both kids had half days on Tuesday. Ex's response... I can't change my work schedule on such short notice. (note to self, give more notice)

Monday evening 10:00 pm DS11 vomited half a pizza. He removed the trash liner from the trash can sitting next to the toilet & vomited into the can. I said Nick, why would you vomit into the trash can when the toilet was right next to it? He said, But Mom, I always throw up in the trash can (noted)

Tuesday morning 7:05, the school bus that was due at 7:10 arrived at 7:00. DS11 missed the bus. Drove him to school.

Tuesday 12:00 got a call from DS8's school. He didn't get on the bus. Why not? Well, when I said he had to take the bus to the after school care, he thought I meant I would pick him up & drive him to after school care.

Picked him up & drove him to after care. It's 12:40 & I have a 1:00 meeting. I figure I'll be 10 minutes late. I hit I-95...parking lot from some accident. 1:40 I drive back to my office having missed the meeting.

Wednesday: I have a 7:30 meeting with two presidents & three vice presidents to talk about expansion of our business.

Arrainge for before care for DS8
Leave the house at 6:40 to drop him off
Leave DS11 home with a timer set for 6:55 to catch the 7:10 bus
Instructions: call me when you get on the bus... if you miss the bus, don't panic. Call me and I'll swing by after the meeting & take you to school.

7:00 drop off DS8
7:02 phone call... Mom I'm on the bus
7:04 traffic report... water main break on Baltimore Pike... I take the back roads
7:29 screech into the parking lot at corporate run up the three flights of stairs (thanks to DCL for the training)
7:30 doors to corporate are locked
7:35 still locked...
7:40 still locked...
7:41 call my office coordinator, am I in the right place? yes. do I have the right time? yes. Can you start calling all of the secretaries & see if someone can let me in?
8:35 got a phone call from the meeting organizer... Lisa, I'm surprised you missed this very important meeting.

The crazed person living inside my head excapes...

What stress laidened, non-vacationy escapades await tomorrow...

Stay tuned...

Lisa..........you are being punished for having a good time with us in Rockin Bar D.:lmao: :lmao: I hope things go better tomorrow.

cough.gif

I'm gonna try and see a doc tomorrow to get some drugs to fight this cough.

For a while I was thinking I might be getting better ...

... then on the flight home I definately felt worse.

At times I felt just as depicted below...

John has the cruddy cough as well.:sad2: :sad2: Well at least we all shared with each other. :lmao: :lmao: I think I was allergic to something on the ship. My allergies were really bad but I felt great on Castaway Cay.:confused3

I wish I could have talked to Alicia more but with all her realtives.......you were kept very busy!!:goodvibes

:scared1: Just saw that someone uploaded the speedo parade...My apologies to those blinded by me :flower3:

Thanks to those who returned entries for the FE Pirate "Poker" Run. We had around 45 entries returned. I posted the results on our door, but since it was the end of the cruise, thought most wouldn't have seen, so I'll list them here. We actually had a "Five of a Kind" submitted by our wonderful tablemates Deanna (buckifan) and Rob. We made them "Honorary" Pirate Kings as they weren't really FE participants, but we wanted to share with them some of the fun. We awarded them a nice DCL Pirate Photo Frame. Of the FE participants, the awards were:

COMMODORE: Fincantieri with a Flush. Awarded a deck of cards with the group's "DIS & Captain Jack Arrrr Back" logo on the back of the cards.

CAPTAIN: 4FosterKids with a Straight. Also received a deck of cards with the group's logo.

CHARTMAN: Tina (I believe ID is CastawayTina?). She submitted the worst hand with a Jack being the high card. We awarded her a Captain Jack Sparrow Pirate Flag.

Thanks again to all who played along. We had a fun time planning it and it sounded like many of you enjoyed it.

It was a great idea!!!! We were looking forward to the next card!!! I guess the old saying "lucky in love"!!! We got three of a kind!!:thumbsup2
I knew exactly by your advatar where you were located. It was like another scavenger hunt for some people to find your room.:cool1: :cool1:

Quick post

Trevoy seems to be feeling better. He decided to wait until next week to see his regular therapist instead of seeing whoever was on crisis duty today. Hopefully that will hold out the rest of the week.

Did take him to see his pediatrician though. Ever since Cartagena, he's been complaining of pain in his ears. So much so that he couldn't wear his hearing aids. Med center figured it was just excess water. They suggested the swimmer's drops to dry them out. That didn't seem to help. Turns out he's got full blown swimmer's ear, not just fluid but an actual infection. Hope the antibiotics kick in soon.

Ummm the rumor was you guys had put yourselves in Mickey Jail.:lmao: :lmao: Glad it didn't last long. I don't think I met you. Lots I never got to meet.
If we had put ourselves in Mickey Jail, we would have had a MUCH better time! :rotfl2:

After P. Vallarta is when our whole scenario started too................we were on the pirate boat sail and snorkel that day. They fed us lunch on that excursion and we weren't too sure if we should eat it. Basically about a day later is when it started. The doctor on the ship classified my daughter as norovirus with a question mark after it. He said that I probably didn't get it as bad since I had a flu shot. I didn't realize that you would have that high of a fever with the norovirus either....there is no way to know if that is what it was but either way Disney was great about it. At any rate, we will file for some type of $$ on our trip insurance but not sure what yet.

We didn't throw up, but we had "issues" for quite a few days, even past our 48 hour isolation time. We got classified as "norovirus" too, but there's no way it was norovirus. This was Montezuma's Revenge at its greatest! Shouldn't have eaten in PV!

At least we'll get some of our $$ back for those 2 days through our trip insurance. I've got DH following up on that. We only have 72 hours to take care of it though. I think that's tomorrow! Hopefully we get some $$ back. We'll see. Let me know if you have any luck.

Suitcases still not unpacked. I have some form of mild ick. I can't tell at this point it is is allergies or a cold.
Went to the office today for my annual review. I was all ready with my "I'm sorry I was on the internet so much (and I mean a LOT) this last year and a half but since my cruise is over now I will be better" speech. I got out "I will be more attentive at work since my cruise is over" and I got a completely befuddled look from my manager, she shook her head like I was crazy and went on to give me a near perfect review. :confused3 Go figure! Bless her heart- she must have low expectations even though she has been my manager for 15 out of 17 years. But- good news none the less.

At first (on the ship) my runny nose felt exactly like it was some kind of "allergic" reaction too... then as the thing "evolved" ... it was gradually shifting into a very sort and dry throat... then later came the coughing.

For what it's worth... if you end up coming down with what I have ... and what i suspect a lot of other folks have... you'll fight this better if you take something to dry up your nose BEFORE you go to sleep... as then you'll wake up with less residue in your throat to cough out... and I suspect ULTIMATELY your best bet is to see a docter from stronger medicine which will zero in on this "bug". I need to look up doctors on my "list" approved by my insurance. I had intended to switch primary care physicians and this seems as good a time as any.

At any rate, just to begin sharing my story of traveling home yesterday...

... it begins 2 nites ago on debarkation day near midnite... I checked with United on our flights and all was as expected. However, the next morning I tried to print boarding passes from the hotel and found it would not. That was odd... so upon closer examination I found we had a flight change! We went from a ONE connect flight home to a TWO connect flight home! Plus we had our party of 8 split through two cities! That was annoying.... and fortunately it was corrected... so we ended up flying on the same flight.

Then when we got to the airport one of our bags was 15 pounds overweight so my BIL declared OK... charge me the $25 and lets get going... however, the counter person admonished ... "oh no, it's not $25 ... rather its' $125!"... my BIL was mildly annoyed since he had checked by phone that morning and was told it was only $25 for the overweight fee... and it seems it WAS $25 up until Aug 15th... and now it was $125. The telephone rep gave him incorrect information on the overweight fee.

So, my BIL felt the simple answer was to pull out 15 pounds of stuff ... however while he was doing so a Disney Cruise Mug slipped from his grip and shatterred on the ground in the shuffle. Oh well .. that bumped the "expense" another $14 or so.

Jumping ahead to our arrival in LA... we ended up in at the LAX Hilton 2.5 hours later than expected and probably a lot more exhausted then it should have been. Plus on the shuttle from airport to hotel we left a bag on the shuttle. It just so happens it was one of those promo rolling DCL duffle bags (the $20 bag with $60 purchase). It was NOT tagged... and my BIL left his new HD Camcorder + a number of other valuables in it... bringing the $20 bag up to well over $1000 in value. He was mildly annoyed with the potential of having LOST it... however, we had it returned to us without much fanfare after a tense hour or so.

THEN ... late that evening... when Alicia and I (with the kids) reached home we found a utility crew working on the street a half block down from us. It seems something blew in the local power system/grid and we had a blackout in effect for the nite. A brief consult with the workers revealed that earlier at 7:30PM something failed and blew the grid ... which coincides with when I touched down back in LA. May I reaffirm my claims of INNOCENCE here! And so ... the crew had been working on the failure for about 4 hours then.

We went about getting into bed and settling down for the nite in the darkness. The mornign brought us a few extra lights on since the power had been restored.

From that point on - we ran the kids to school and discovered Julianna had been placed in a mildly advanced combination class of 2nd and 3rd graders. Kalea had a great day in Jr K class... and did well compared to a few who last week cried a little. The Jr K class is intended for kids who are younger in general and otherwise might have been withheld from K school by thier parents. Academic Red Shirting so to speak. So she seemed to have had a wonderful 1st day at school.

Things on that school front seemed all OK.

OK... I gotta check the kids and .... believe it or not... I'm going to try and get some EARLY sleep too now.

TTFN!

Gee,

I'm really sorry to hear of this. I sure hope you get something from TRIP INSURANCE for this though. Frankly, that sounds pretty GOOD to me!

On another note... just before my little daughter went to sleep she proudly declared "Look... Daddy has a hole in his panties". That's something to sleep on folks! Don't get caught in similar circumstances by your kids!

Extra special thanks to:
All those that particpated in the FE exchange- what fun that was and what awesome items we received! Thank you all so much! (and special thanks to Julie for task forcing the cabin updates for the FE exchange!)

All those that handled the shirts, lanyards, nametags, wristbands, patch exchange, etc. You guys are awesome!

A Litle Pixie Dust for the water shoes- thank you!

Cruisin'Mike's wife Linda for the use of her tiki mickey shirt/skirt- I appreciate it so much!!!! I almost forgot to return it to you- that's why when I was packing the last night I had my husband run it up there real quick (and apparently you weren't there so you may not know my husband ran it up there LOL) I really hope that didn't mess up your own packing! I'm sorry- I really did almost forget to return it to you! :scared1: (and thank you for the FE gift- way cool- love it!!!!)

Lotsofboys for the tickets you bought for us.. you saved us a ton of money and I didn't even find you on the cruise to give you real hugs for doing that for us! wahhhhhhhhhhhhhh (did you get my note on your door though? I wondered if you got it)

darthrugby for all you did planning and organizing the rugby practice, game and ofcourse for the Konk Kooler & DH's beer. You rock! Jeff had a great time- especially for someone who didn't know a lick about rugby until the practice. LOL
And btw..... it's Nicolette I'm supposed to be addressing the DVD to that I'm sending-right? I found it last night........ in the inside zipper pocket of the luggage that I decided not to take and took everything out of it (and put that stuff in other luggage to take less with us) but apparently FORGOT to get the stuff out of the zipper pocket. That was one of the many things I left in that luggage like a goofball. LOL And I managed to make sure I kept your address that you wrote out. I'll be sending that to your daughter tomorrow- promise! :)

CaptainCrash- for the ice cream bar eating contests which I think were totally awesome! DCL should totally add that to their navigators as a regular thing they do. LOL Extra special thank you for the tinkerbell shirt! That was so unexpected and I'll be honest- I worried it wouldn't fit me because well, things just usually don't fit me- especially Disney tees- they are usually too tight in areas I don't want them to be or otherwise too long in length and too long on the sleeves- but this one fit PERFECT! I absolutely love it. I wore it on the day before Castaway Cay but I don't think I saw you that day. I'm sure if I had seen you again I'd have been gushing about how it fit me perfectly. Maybe I need you to go shopping for my clothes since you made it look so easy? Or your wife if she's the one that picked it out? :lmao:

Doreen, Marty, Daniel and Karen for being the best tablemates (& teen spy/personal photographer... hehe) anyone could wish for. We miss you already!!!!!!!!!

Wendy (smeecanada) for organizing the Electrical Parade meet and being so kind & friendly to us during the cruise!

Julie and Monica for organizing the fantasmic meet and putting out sheets for us and sitting there forever to hold spots for us and everything. that was awesome! (and special thanks to Monica for listening to me the few times I saw you and I'm sure I went on and on and on just gabbing away LOL I hope I didn't make you late to that last dinner!)

Grandmax3 for organizing the Wenches lunch!

All those that participated in the pirate procession at dinner on pirate night- that was so awesome and your pirate outfits were incredible!

Todd for putting up with everyone wanting their photo with "Captain Jack Sparrow". ;) Did anyone else even bother to get photos with DCL's Jack Sparrow? LOL we didn't......

And to anyone else I may have forgotten AT THIS MOMENT but please know everything you did is appreciated! I know there were lots of other things organized that we didn't personally participate in but you all deserve huge thanks for doing your part to make everyone's trip truly a TOAL!
:grouphug:

Actually, my thinaks go out ta you two (Tina AKA Castoff) fer da help, contributions and support rendered. This event was had the largest attendance of any I've yet conducted! So I could not have done it without the help of you two!

Hey folks, I hope you can bear with me through another post like this, but looks like I'm in for some rough times ahead. Trevoy is really depressed over being home. This is beyond the normal post vacation blues. He's really down. Added to that is the stress over going back to school, which is his main trigger for his depression. And he's afraid of my brother again. Trevoy was talking to his grandma about the trip and admitted that he got into it with me. My brother overheard and pretty much went off on Trevoy. Unfortunately I wasn't around and don't know exactly what happened.

We've got an appointment next week with the therapist, but I'm going to try to get him in tomorrow after school. I'm seeing the same symptoms as in the past and I fear that another hospital stay may be coming on.

I'm sorry to hear of this developement...

May I offer our hopes and prayers for the BEST possible developements under these circumstances

Time fer me to get some sleep now....

Hi guys. Popping over from the WB thread. Glad you had a great time. Sucks being home and off the ship doesn't it?:sad2:

Quick questionn.

Did you get the Cinderella Slipper Dessert or did they try to pass of a slice of slimey fish as this dessert?

No strike yet. The union extended the contract 48 hours per the Governor's request. We'll see what happens. 80% of the members rejected the contract and 87% voted to strike. I really hate this.

Well, it looks like we lost our last stop at Castaway Cay. The stateroom television channel that continuously shows weather, direction, course, et cetera, is listing our "Next Port of Call" as being Port Canaveral on Saturday, September 6. Castaway Cay should be listed for September 5, except that is, most likely, off the plate now with Hurricane Ike making such a racket out at sea. If they make any announcements as to our course/itinerary, I will keep you posted.

At this point in time we are chugging along at 6.2 knots in moderate seas. Blue skies with lots of clouds are all around us.

....

On a sad note my own kids had to break the news to me that while I was gone my "Disney" a six year old cocker stopped eating and that she has cancer and will not survive the disease... They had gotten together while I was gone to discuss what to do and how to tell me....After having the TOAL - I am so very sad... to lose such a great dog...My kids purchased 7 or 8 different dog foods and have tried everything to get her to eat...she is on medicine to increase her desire to eat...we (my mom and I) have discovered that she loves puppy dog biscuits... So while I am teaching my mom (82 years young) is a doggy nurse...

Can't wait to hear for everyone and view pictures...Keeping the 5 day cruisers in my prayers...

AGAIN - thanks everyone.
Georgiana

I am sorry to here about your dog.. :grouphug:

I'm glad he's feeling a bit better! ouchy on the swimmer's ear... Cartegena was a long time ago so i hope he"s out of pain soon with the anitbiotics. Poor guy. Hoping the antibiotics kick in soon!
Hope you got the school records thing straightened out too!

Wow, what a trip home!
And that stinks to come home to find no electricity. Ohmy that would have been bad if that happened to us! It was 98 degrees outside and 95 degrees in the house (cause that's what we set the a/c on while we were gone) -it took hours for the house to cool off enought to feel comfortable... can't imagine trying to get everyone in bed for school the next morning without electricity to cool off our house! ack!
So glad they had a great first day of school. :) Things are going good here too- but mama bear (that's me) is sure tired.... getting the kids all caught up and all MY homework (filling out papers, extra supplies they need, etc.) in addition to trying to unpack, and all the other household stuff needed to be done and shopping for groceries and and and- you know all the stuff.... I'm beat! I actually beat you to sleep last night. I was sawing logs by the time you posted this and I apparently fell asleep about the moment my head hit the pillow which is very unusual for me (I usually lay there for atleast an hour or two before finally falling asleep).

Glad your BIL got his camcorder back!

Gee,

Someone at our table got it and it seemed fine- and she ate it. slimey fish?

Aw man- sorry you aren't getting the last day at CC. bummer..... but hope the rest of your cruise is still enjoyable- do they add things to the navigator (to do on the ship) when ports of call are removed from the itinerary due to weather like this? I hope so, so everyone can still have a good time. We'll keep thinking about you guys for safe travel!

Hi M!

I was thinking of you as I listened to the sound bites this morning :thumbsup2 When was the last time the phrase "Hockey Mom" was on the front page across the country? :lmao: Do you actually wear lipstick to hockey practice? :rolleyes1

Did you get the Cinderella Slipper Dessert or did they try to pass of a slice of slimey fish as this dessert?

I had the "Cinderella Slipper" dessert. It was a overly sweet, rather weird cake with a tiny white chocolate thing on top that might have been a slipper shape. I was disappointed, the description sounded like it would actually be a white chocolate slipper like I've seen on the Travel Channel. My DH and I were speculating that the suplier for the real slippers was in Florida and this was a simplified version they were using in California...

After the IV and the medicines they had to give my daughter I figured we would have to pay about $400 in expenses but Disney covered the expense since they were confining us to out cabin so that was a relief at least. I felt they handled it well - as well as they could so I am not complaining.

I have to say though, I have NEVER seen one of my kids THAT sick. DD could not even hold down a sip of gatorade or water. She would heave it right back up and then have dry heaves for a couple more minutes. I really felt bad for her. I was really scared for her too, she was getting dehydrated fast. After the IV though, no more throwing up which was good, she still did not eat for another 24 hours after that!

Sue...that is just terrible! So sorry to hear this.

Hope everyone is feeling better!!!

I was disappointed, the description sounded like it would actually be a white chocolate slipper like I've seen on the Travel Channel. My DH and I were speculating that the suplier for the real slippers was in Florida and this was a simplified version they were using in California...

All three ladies on our table ordered the Slipper Dessert as we all rather wrongly presumed it would be the chocolate slipper. I made a 'what's that' comment when our server placed the eel like concoction in front of me and I think he was offended!!!:lmao: It did taste fine, just looked pretty bad.

We had quite a discussion about it on our WB thread.
