Roger/Tom - do you know where abouts in the old threads did we have the discussion about cameras + the humidity. My search skills when it comes to the DIS are not the greatest. I wanted to go back and have a reread just so all the important points are in my mind. We went to the camera shop - not very helpful. He wanted us to purchase a silica pack that needs to be microwaved every few days - like that is going to happen :rotfl2: We haven't got extremely expensive cameras but don't want them ruined by the humidity either. Wonder how much we need to worry about the humidity with the Olympus SW850 because of it being water proof?

Ken (DH) is wondering about the stash of little silica packs that he has kept over the years from when we have gotten various things - they are pretty small. Any thoughts?

Off to a bbq - I'll check back later.

Yeah!

Finally finished all our costumes. Now the task of packing them, ugh!

Here is my oldest daughter in her ES POTC Gold Gown:

The shoes took 8 weeks, had an old world cobbler make them in Canada. Great job! I dressed them up a little based on the originals from the movie.

Call me crazy but I had a ball creating it.

Yes, the basic tux includes cufflinks, studs, bow tie, cummerbund, jacket, pants and two white shirts.

Thanks, that's one thing I can cross off my list.

No wonder you were concerned about hauling your costumes around!

The dress and shoes are stunning :thumbsup2

Desiree, have you ever needed to use it? We don't have mosquitos in San Diego so I haven't used bug repellant for years. Does it contain DEET? DH goes fishing quite often in Montana and Alaska and refuses to use anything without DEET. But I thought DEET wasn't safe :confused3

Thanks,

Michelle

We've used Avon's Skin So Soft in the jungles of Belize and Guatemala and it really DOES work.

That's what I got. Avon had a 2 for 1 special going last month.

I do use it...I am reading the bottle and it does not have DEET in it atleast according to the ingrediants.

It is Avon Skin So Soft Bug Guard Plus sunscreen... repels mosquitos, deer ticks, black flies, gnats, sand flies, biting midges (whatever those are) and no-seeums...I checked our system for this upcoming order and it says that it is still available however..there are a couple different SPF's available..you can search their website. As I said..there is an order going in this week (Wednesday) and will arrive the following Tues or so...you can have it sent directly to you for $3 or have a local rep deliever it to you free.

I am checking the current catalog..the price is $6.99 each for the Bug Guard plus 30 SPF..(same as 2 for 1 still) if you are interested... it is item # 422 637 for the pump spray and 422 656 for the aerosol spray. There are also some portable on the go wipes you can purchase under the same name. 358-935 item # 5.99 for pack of 8. But those are bug repellant only.

Avon also has one that is Bug Guard with Picaridin but is not a sunscreen..Picaridin is another ingrediant along with DEEt that the EPA suggest you use. If interested in that..it is item #792 852 and is in the current catalog for $5.99 each.

Okay....here she is......we weren't sure at first if we were getting a boy or a girl.....but one look at those huge headlights and we KNEW it was a girl!! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

First time trying on the Mr. Cotton outfit

We are almost done. :cheer2:

Wow! Nice costume Roger. Just the right amount of distressing. Is that Mr. Cotton's daughter?

I asked this in chat the other night.....What exactly is the sash used for? I'm putting the finishing touches on our costumes and Kevin wanted to know. :confused3

Mine wasn't a sash like the guys wear. It was more of a ragged layer on my skirt. Just trying to make my outfit look distressed.

I think the sash was worn to be able to tuck extra daggers or flintlocks so you could have more weapons??

Guess I'm a little confused about the connection of Caribbean pirates with the Renaissance. As I haven't been to a Renaissance fair since high school, I may be missing something.

Actually most Ren Faires have a Pirate section now along with like a Barbarian area , well at least the big one in Vegas does ...and I know alot in Cali do as well ....Lat year I even saw a few Jedi walkin about the Ren Fair

I don't want to ask..but I have to... what kinda horror stories. We land at 8:30 and are renting a car. We aren't going to DL that night..we are heading north to Edwards AFB to see DS. What can I expect with a tired DH and 2 very sleepy children?

I think it depends from what agency you are renting. Some of them are off site and there are a few on site. The lines on a weekend tend to be very, very long from what I understand. Perhaps at 8:30 it will not be as bad as a Saturday morning. Check out the tripadvisor forums. THat's where I heard about all the horror stories. I think Budget was supposed to be the worst.

not much on humidity, more on bags over 20 pages

OK, I am interested......where do Texans park their horses when they go to the Airport.

Is it a stable parking lot?:lmao:

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Keel-Hauling, of course..... One doesn't always have a rope handy.... And with the possibility of demon children at the next table, one must be prepared.... :rolleyes1

:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

It's official: I will be dressing up as Scarlett! :cool1: Bought the material and all the goods. Mum is going to whip it together this week as I have way too much to do. Stay tuned for pictures! Christopher now says, "What am I going to wear?" So now that he has decided to join in, I have to figure out how to dress him without dressing him up!!!:confused3

Of course! LOL! Now that he sees how much fun it's going to be! ;) DH & 28ds did NOT want todress up last time -- but, I bought them shirts and vests anyway.... When they saw us girls dressed up and that ALOT of others were dressing up...all of a sudden it was FUN! A week before we were leaving for the cruise dh wanted me to find him Pirate boots! LOL!

Yeah!

OH MY GOODNESS!!!! It is wonderful and your dd is beautiful!!! The shoes are to die for and I wouldn't want to take a chance on ruining them by wearing them on deck!
17dd is soooo jealous!!!

Just saying hello to everyone - hope that your day goes well. Please take care and talk to you soon. Still in search for a formal for my DD6, since the other dress got cancelled yesterday. Disappointing. Also, went to Macy's, Nordstrom, Dillards, JcPenny's ect... and no formal dresses for little girls. Found one possible on ebay and pray we get it.

Take care off to company picnic for my husbands work.

Yah.

Take care,:cool1:

How about a bridal store or bridal sections of the department stores? They may have flower girl dresses that may work. Nordstroms and Macys have some online

Here is one from macys
http://www1.macys.com/catalog/product/index.ognc?ID=310050&CategoryID=31458&LinkType=EverGreen

That's what I had to do for my DD11. I couldn't find any long formal dresses for her in the department stores and was ready to give up. Tried a local bridal shop today and found 2 beautiful formals for her. They needed to be shortened, but I had my dresses in the car for a nearby tailor so we just added hers to the bunch. We get them back next Saturday, so leave at least a week for alterations.

CRUISE QUESTION

If I rent a tux from DCL, will they include cuff links? What's the deadline for doing this?
I remember reading that for boy's sizes they needed the order in by 2 weeks prior to the cruise, so you have a week:goodvibes
Of course, my guys just went to get their sizes today, so I'll be ordering soon too.

Yeah!
