This is why I haven't started buying SM gifts. The greatest thing about SM is that you get to know other people that you may not have gotten to know otherwise. In the past I've gotten people that I didn't know at all including Laura herself. I also know from experience It's hard enough to organize something like SM (or dining for that matter) without having to meet everyone's special requests, making these jobs nightmares. Sorry, just my 2 cents. :goodvibes
Yeah, it was a gamble I took and I lost. I took the risk but I want you all to know I in no way blame Laura! This is in NO WAY her fault and I know it's a lot of work what she's doing with the secret mickeys. As I said in my post- she said it just turned out a lot of the girls didn't want girly stuff. That's not her fault at all- she has to work with what she has, yanno? I just don't want children disappointed if we're their SM- that's all. I appreciate all of Laura's hard work and in no way fault her for anything!
:)
I emailed her that I think it would be best if we just withdraw from the secret mickey- because I don't want to cause her more work than she's already doing with this and I also don't want to disappoint other kids. I can just put these things in my kids FE's and I know they'll like them PLUS I'll have extras I can just randomly surprise other kids in their FE's--- and it would be extra, not as their SM, so they won't be disappointed. I don't want anyone to wish they hadn't got us as SM's- yanno? And this is in NO WAY Laura's fault- it's mine. I took the risk buying things ahead of time and little by little so I could afford it better- and I'm glad I did because we really couldn't afford to buy stuff at the present time. We're already buckling down as much as possible to pay for everything on the cruise with all our bills and gas going sky high (I know everyone is feeling the pinch too!) But I took the risk of buying things ahead of time and then turns out there's no one to match me up to that WANTS those types of things. That's totally my fault-not hers in any way. I just want to make that clear.

Thanks so much for all that you're doing Laura! We all appreciate you so much!

Did you know that we have a ton of kids listed on the kids page who would like to e-mail in advance of the cruise. The kids are listed under parents DIS name, so a parent to parent contact must be made first.

We have

11 3-7 year olds
27 8-10 year olds
26 11-13 year olds
12 14-17 year olds
My son would probably like to talk to them too. I should probably get him a gmail address or something. LOL

Claire says *Thank you, Disboard people!* ;) And as the youngest of 5 she thinks she is a princess EVERYDAY! :rotfl2:

I'll try that way next time. Samantha was at Hurricane Harbor (with friends) that afternoon which is why Brian was INSISTING that I take them to Hawaiian Falls -- it was his insisting that caused me to say *No*. ;)

We didn't do the Secret Mickeys.
Well Claire may have a little secret mickey anyway. hehe
(oh and your first comment about claire- ditto... Rita is the same way! LOL)
Ah, did you tell Brian we were there that day? LOL Funny....... you sound like me. INSISTING we do something is a sure fire way to get a no answer. hehe

$1 for the washer, $1 per cycle on the dryer. Many times it takes more than one cycle.

Thanks for the info!

Speaking of laundry, I still haven't found Dropps. I tried Super Wal-Mart, Target and Bed Bath and Beyond, but nobody had them. I did see small packages of Tide(2 wash size) at Target for .99. I might just pick those up instead.
I'm taking the small packages of Tide. I don't know if I have enough though- just a few stashed away. I may need to a trip to Target for more though- i don't think our Walmart has them! :(

I made my "clothing list" last night. Wow. Fifteen nights of dinner on the ship, two nights' pre-cruise....and the sea days, Palo and Brunch.

What it boils down to is this: Very few dresses fit me right. If they're big enough to fit on top, then they hang like a bag on the bottom. God love the new style that looks like maternity dresses, at least they fit. So what if I'm 50....maybe I'm carrying a child for my infertile daughter!! ;)

So....I have maybe 5 dresses, then I have several skirts and tops....but the rest of my outfits for dinner are either going to be skorts or capri's and tops that can double as outfits for brunch or sea days.
Too bad if no one likes it. At least I'm not going to dinner naked.
Well if we're just aiming to not go naked- then I'll be okay. :rotfl:

:yay: :yay: :yay: ME ME ME!!!! Did ya see that, Shelley????

I did TOO play with dolls when I was a little girl....despite being a tomboy. My Barbies beat up my brother's GI Joes all the time!!
:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Yes I saw it- and actually thought of the same thing!

Hey LilG....re: your property/neighbor problems. I can't figure out what this world is coming to.
We've had the same problems with people misusing the outer edges of our property....and with people dumping garbage in the dumpster behind our business.
The sheriffs told us that before they would even consider doing anything, we had to post NO Trespassing, No Dumping, Private Property signs. :confused3

Isn't is obvious to these people that they don't own any of it?? I mean, come on...they don't pay the monthly dumpster bill, and they don't pay the taxes on our land......:sad2:
Something is really wrong with the world when we have to do that. It's like "Property Laws for Dummies".

And take lots of pictures.

Funny story.....one time, someone dumped tires in our dumpster....which we would have to pay money to dispose of. The idiots also were stupid enough to dump their daily garbage in there too. The sheriff wouldn't do anything, so we got the illegal dumper's address off the mail in their garbage, loaded all their junk into my husband's truck, and dumped it back in their driveway. We never heard a word. :rotfl:
Almost every one of your posts reminds me why I like you so much. I'd totally have done the same thing! LOL

Don't worry, I'll have my black capris and a couple of nice blouses packed in my bag too. Just throw on some cute jewelry and a nice little flat shoe and you'll be fine! And don't you dare skip dinner on formal night girl!!!
LOL Well I'm not much of a jewelry person but I imagine I can dig some out of the cobwebs in my jewelry boxes (that wonder why I ignore them for years LOL) to find something. IDK about flat shoes- I think I may have a pair or two but my black flipflip crocs are my favorite attire for the past few years! LOL I'm gonna be so classy (not) -as long as people don't point and laugh I'll be okay .... LOL
I need to find ATLEAST a skirt or two and some blouses. I relate to Stacey's post- things don't fit the ENTIRE me- each only fitting a part of me. So seperate pieces might work better I think. (hey what dresses are you talking about Stacey? new style that looks like maternity dresses?)

All this laundry talk -- my big tip is to bring Tide to Go sticks (more than you think you need -- they are wonderful!) and some things can be worn more than once without washing. I used these on the Med and Med repo cruises last year and was able to take little stains out of things and then reuse them or me or the girls . . . it was wonderful and really cut down on laundry. I have bought 2 packs of 3 sticks to take this year.
That would work for everyone except our ST. emphasis on the stinky. LOL
(OMG NO ONE tell her I said that! LOL)

It shouldn't, but it still amazes me that common courtesy is now the exception not the rule with most people. When I see other people not having common courtesy even my kids comment on it. We have instilled in them, hopefully for life, how you should treat people and be courteous so when they see rude behavior they realize why we won't tolerate it in our family
Amen to that!
(except I emphasize we're TRYING to instill common courtesy in our children and TRYING to fight the "me first" behavior that tries to come out in all of them. they are all still a work in progress but they are pretty young so hopefully we'll get them on the right path before adulthood. If anyone sees my kids misbehaving on the cruise, please tell me!)

Need to take a break from work and see whats cooking on the DIS..

DW is totally stressing about packing... I've told her to pack like its a 7 or 8 day vacation and I will do the laudry.

Plan to take 2 rolls of quarters for the laundry as the driers take a long time to get things dry (unless its a very small load). Take the quarters as carry on otherwise is help get the checked luggage to become over weight.

Will likely bring a small box of detergent w us and a ziplock bag of some downey sheets.

I never do laundry at home... but I do it on the DCL (give the DW a break). See y'all on the 6th floor laudry room.

As for the tux... what's it cost to rent? Have heard they are cheap to buy as well. Not sure what to do there.

And a question for the group... if the cruise were next Aug instead of this Aug... how many would reconsider talking the cruise due to the uncertain economic picture? I can tell you I would still go, but I bet the DW would be trying to talk me out of it.... she's the worry wort of this couple!

Here's where I (and several others) rented Kevin's tux: http://www.cruiselineformal.com/
We got the Black and White Combo.

Sil, renting the tux is the way to go. No packing, additional luggage space not needed, clean pressed shirts for each night provided. And we would be on the cruise with you. Jack,

What do you all think about a kids chat on the Pirate Zone?? Maybe for an hour or 2 before our Friday night chat? Or a Saturday afternoon?

I'd be willing to moderate if there is enough interest. I could come up with a few questions to get them going. And have a few questions to pop in with if the conversation slows. ARGH! While typing and thinking this through, just realized I can't moderate. We only have 1 working computer right now. So if I moderate then DS can't chat. I can certainly watch over his shoulder and prompt him to ask questions. But can someone else volunteer to lead this??

I know many have been posting on the kids thread. But some of us have not been successful getting our kids registered.

I signed up for the SM for me but not for my girls -- it's too bad I didn't because you could have had my youngest who is very girly! I just started to feel as though between FE gifts and one SM from me, it was getting to be a lot of stuff to pack.

As for the Tide to Go sticks, I thought about qualifying what items and for what people a quick stain removal might not be enough for :lmao: but then just thought I'd let it go! What about the Tide to Go plus Febreze????:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

We love them both.
Iron Chef America is another favorite.
And Dirty Jobs.

The pirate Mythbusters was great. Umm, we also like the Alaska one - go figure.

Those are two favs in our house along with "Hows It Made" and "Glutton for Punishment"....Tori loves those shows more then the kids shows...makes me feel a little better about what she watches..

Dirty Jobs......**sigh***....gotta love Mike Rowe....:lovestruc :lovestruc :lovestruc

Hey M! What do you mean, wear the same outfits? Can I really do that? I made my list with 15 different outfits. CARP. I can cut back...whooo hoooo:banana:

Stole this from the Budget Board
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1872264

It's a contest for free movie cash. Just about every one wins a movie ticket. A small few have only one an Entenman's Bakery coupon. I got movie cash, up to $12 value.

It is limited to these states: AK, AR, AZ, CA, CO, HI, ID, KS, LA, MO, MS, MT, ND, NE, NM, NV, OK, OR, SD, TX, UT, WA, or WY

And it is very touchy. If you don't enter the validation code correctly it does not give you a second chance. And will recognize your IP if you try again with a different email or address.

Good luck

Here's the link

I had told DS that we wouldn't be seeing any movies this summer, but last night I got passes for a free screening of The Rocker for next week. And now 1 free ticket with this. So guess we can see a few.

Thanks for this!

I don't know about you,but you'll most likely see me a few days on Deck 9,in the same pair of jean shorts!

Shelley....kind of like this one....only not quite. On me, it would be a lot looser around the middle anyway.

What about starting a thread on the Pirate Zone? Really no different than being on the DIS and then we know only our kids are on it. We could even break it up into the age groups (so the older teens can have their own area). I'd really that idea better than the DIS Board. I was going to try and set my two up in the next few days but will wait and see what you all think of this suggestion.

Oh well, yeah....me too. Same shorts and tanks. I was just thinking dinner clothes. I am going to mix & match though.

DH called our health insurance today to inquire about out of the country coverage. We have a PPO plan. She informed him that if we did have to get medical care anywhere, to utilize the ER rather then any other physicians. She said it was easier to get re-imbursed via the ER. We'd have to pay for the services and submit receipts for reimbursement, unless they offered to bill it up front for us first.

Does this sound right? Any thoughts on this subject?

Generally speaking yes, emergency coverage is usually easier to get covered/reimbursed, but has higher deductibles/co-pays.

I don't know if you have a volunteer yet but would be happy to do so...although this week..since it is 4th of July..we won't be around..
