I did get black formal gloves but they are below the elbow. Is that what everyone else is doing for princess night?

Also............... I need to send my FE gifts ahead of time. Is that something we can do or did I remember DCL saying they weren't accepting any packages?:confused3 :confused3 TIA

Glove Length: It really doesn't matter,I don't think. Mine are above the elbow, but that's what I found on Ebay.

Shipping Ahead: I plan on shipping pirate costumes,FE Gifts and my Formals ahead to Port. I think what you've actually heard about was shipping items ahead to Port Canaveral, not the Port of Los Angeles. ;)

Voyage Length 15-night
Dining Room Server $60
Asst. Dining Room Server $45
Dining Room Head Server $15
Stateroom Host / Hostess $60
TOTALS PER GUEST $180

I don't know the breakdown for who gets what, but the suggested amount for the 15 night cruise is $180 per person.

ETA : I see Julie has more info!

All I can say is "That just will not do!"

Figuring out those costs per day and applying to what I tip when I go out with friends while at home, that list is definitely a little "light." At least I know what they are recommending. I'll be doing a lot more than that . . . especially since this is the TOAL for the celebration of my 25th ordination anniversary. My parishioners were extremely generous to me over these past three weeks of celebrations and I intend to "share the wealth."

When I walk off the ship after it is all over, I want the CMs to have a little tear in their eyes because they felt totally appreciated! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the info!!!

I was just reading a report from someone who went on the Mex Riviera cruise June 22-29, and this was very interesting (I hope we see things like this!):

SEA LIFE SEEN FROM SHIP: If you're patient, you might see some sea life from the ship. On our first day at sea, as we went down the Baja peninsula, there was a bonanza of sightings. There were whales, a large pod of dolphins, an school of enormous squid, and many flying fish. Flying fish look like enormous dragonflies emerging from under the forward end of the ship. Then they sail just above the water for as much as 50 yards before plopping themselves back in the water. Your kids will love them because they're quite bizarre. There are also large sea birds, like pelicans and frigate birds (which have a dark v-shaped tail). It seemed like the area around the tip of Baja had the most to see, so keep an eye out.

There is always a chance to see whales but the odds will be against us. I have heard of some that live year round in Cabo. You know the whales that talk amongst themselves, "Hey do you really want to swim all the way up to Alaska this summer. Nah, lets stay here and enjoy the nachos and tequila. We can eat that plankton next year." On our 2005 cruise down the coast we saw a pod of about 30 dolphins that put on quite a show for almost 30 mins. The flying fish are awesome and much bigger than you think.

Fr Mike . . . I think this is an awesome way to celebrate your 25 year anniversary! How cool! And what a great example to be a huge blessing to your staff :) One of my favorite priests growing up ended up pastoring a smaller country church. He had a wild Irish sense of humor. His goal was to be so in debt by the time he died that the bishop would be paying it off for years. I like your way of doing things where you are blessing others. (although Fr Bill was always a stitch . . .LOL). Can't wait to hear your homily at Mass.

We'll definitely tip above the suggested amounts, as I'm expecting the same fantastic guest service that we've come to know and love! We'll also do some personalized thank you cards, and a little token of our appreciation. (Most likely edible, since their cabins are so small.) You're right, they make us feel so special throughout the cruise, that we want them to know how much we appreciated it. And then when we get home, we send in a letter naming the CM's who have gone out of their way to make our cruise "Magical."

Don't tell that to Cheryl, or we'll never see her on deck!

This is just so exciting! The wonderful educational lessons just keep coming. I'm proud of my DS13. He just finished reading a history of the Panama Canal by David McCullough, He really got a lot out of it and it had great actual pictures. Guess I need to get it read while the boys are at church camp. DS11 will be wanting to read it next.

Keep that good educational concepts coming!:)

Oh No! Outdone by a 13 yo. I still have not finished that dumb book. I had to drop and study for a work test and never got back to picking it up. I did buy the book "Walt Disney" by Neil Graber. It is really good.

LOL . . no worries . . .both boys read like fish in water.. . I'll have to look into that book. I would love a good biography of Walt Disney. He sets such an amazing example of building your dream. Thanks for the recommendation.

The only way I can stand it, M, is to imagine that you and I are thinking the same things and laughing together in some imaginary plane . . .:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Oh good. I'm there too.
We'll have fun onboard together!

Well, you can share the wealth with some really devout Disers. "Why yes Father, I'd love a drink of the day!"

Imagine a flying fish in your bathtub! My Grandpa was your typical sailor - stories larger than life. When my mom was little she didn't believe his stories about flying fish..until he brought one home and tossed it in the bathtub so she could see it!

BTW, those whales don't know what they're missing in Alaska.

Don't tell that to Cheryl, or we'll never see her on deck!

She has to be on deck - she's on Ray Watch with Diane!

I'm about 1/2 way through McCullough's book. I think it's great, but I'm a history nerd - I would have loved it at 13 as well.

Yeah. You?

DUDE! I was on that cruise! Whoa.... I remember we were chillin' and sailin. And all the colors were... so ... whoa... you know? And when we sailed through green and some people felt green? And when it was blue we felt blue? And we we sailed through red... we couldn't figure out what it was but maybe it was taking 15 of those sea sick pill out by sick bay on deck one. You know. And do you remember when we hit that white line, and we thought. let's get some. But we'd already left Columbia. And whoa... just remember those colors.. :hippie:

:rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl2:

Oh good! No excuses for abandoning us.

Loads of excuses. I'll just have to get creative. :rotfl2:

Sounds way less expensive (and painful) than the fake hips I'm due for in the next 10 years.

Ow!

Well, 3 of the 8 people at your table are Catholic, so that should be good for something.

Hummmmm. Does that mean only 3/8 of the calories will be taken out?

Yeah, you must have read the tablemate agreement very closely. That's part of the deal.

You'll be fighting Issac over them. Now, that should be fun to watch. You haven't been dressed down until you've been dressed down by my six year old. :lmao: And you know things are really bad when he thows his hands up into the air and exclaims "Oh! My Word!" :scared1:

Oh Look! It's the Little Executive Who Could.

HA! NOT!

Was it Celestine that was on it too?

So then this is like a reunion cruise for a bunch of people that didn't meet before?

What excursions did everyone do on the August 2006 cruise?

Don't remember if it was Celestine or not, I think there were two other families.

Yeup. A reunion cruise. :rotfl2:

Excursions? Hum..... As I remember it:

St Maarten
DM and DS6 did the Butterfly walk
DH and DS11 did something with dolphins
DD, DB, and myself went diving on a non-DCL excursion

St Thomas
We has a private dive / snorkle charter - it was the highlight of the cruise

On the AC issue, wasn't one of the rumors that they would be adding something similar at the new Night Kingdom when it opens?

You know, it's got such a following, I really can't see them shutting it down completely. It'll return in some form.

Our families Darthrugby(Peter) & Fincantieri (Jack) were also on that cruise.

A-Ha!! Found 'em.

Give up now. Now we know you have internet in the hinterlands.

Hummmmm. Does that mean only 3/8 of the calories will be taken out?

Better than nothin'. And it may get ya into heaven.

He's six. I can take him. :)

My money is on a return as the signature club at the AKL DVC property. Disney built resorts..and people came. Disney put restaurants in resorts..and people came. Eventually, Disney will put adult-friendly clubs in deluxe resorts...and people will come.

I'm very sad at AC closing, but I am thrilled that we will be there at the end. DH & I will be at WDW (sans kids) that weekend for the Expedition Everest race. I may just steal stuff from AC the last night!

Don't feel like going back to multi quote, but M glad to hear DH got his vacation approved! :cool1:

Lots of stories about Pat O'briens. So do we have story night mapped out on the itinerary??? :confused3 :rolleyes1

Our Local Disney Store is also closing. The manager told Alicia something to the effect - that our local store was one of a few that were currently planning on closing in either Califonria or the nation (more likely California).... and that our store was closing because thier rent had just increased tremendously while their sales volume was a fraction of a neighboring store in NORTHRIDGE which enjoied rents which were much lower! Of course, the new folks runnning the Disney Stores might not have noticed our particular mall is in the midst of a major rennovation - something that's supposedly costing 100s of millions of dollars. All for what...??? They're building a multi-floor parking structure, renovating an anchor to become a Nordstrum, adding a formal food court, improving the rest rooms to include nursing stations, family rest rooms and adding an outdoor wing that will feature a multi-plex cinema and several "high-end" restuarants. Plus the rest of the place is getting a "freshening" once over.

Oh well... like you, I guess we'll have to wander further afield to get our Disney Store "fixes"....

The Disney Store is all about the bottom line!!!!:headache: That is why I left my job. It just quit being fun!!:sad2:

Just quickly popping in to say ... guess what today is?

Today is 1st July! Which means we can now say "next month when we are on the EB repo". Exciting stuff huh? :rotfl:

Also just a quick weather check, biking to work this morning it was -4C/25F and yes there was ice on the road so I was biking very, very slowly.

I'm so looking forward to warm weather!

Yes next month sounds great to me!!!:thumbsup2

This is the only hurricane I wan't to hear about ! :rotfl2:

:worship:

The patch made both Linda's and my vision go blurry. I have some other stuff going on right now, and probably won't be able to use the patch during our cruise, which is why I'll be giving the ginger capsules a try.

First time tablemates wore patches and their vision was blurry for two days!!! I take the drug of choice.......meclizine......which guest services gives out too!!! :cheer2:

I think you and Roger should draw straws on who gets the last pirate before our TOAL.;)

Talk to y'all later!!!

You owe me a phone call!!!

Hi Stephanie

I'm not keen on France and that is why we were only there for about six or seven hours. We went shopping in Cité d'Europe (and spent a small fortune on Australian and New Zealand red wine), then I drove down the coast to Boulogne to see the beach.

Jon will have benefited from the lovely weather we've been having lately (not as hot as Texas). I actually drove past Northampton on Wednesday evening as we went to Wales. Helen's mother had a heart attack on Tuesday and "died" three times so Helen was quite upset and wanted to visit her mother in hospital. The upshot of this is that she can't come on holidays to the USA and the cruise now as the doctor will not allow her to fly the Atlantic until at least next year. From Wednesday to Sunday evening I drove nearly 900 miles - in Helen's car might I add; I'm not putting the miles on mine.;)

Still hoping to see you on ist of September.

David

Please give Helen my love!!! :lovestruc I am so sorry to hear about her mother!! I still wish you could have been on this cruise with us!!:sad2:

On our Christmas Cruise 2006/2007 ..we hit a storm (not a hurricane but a really bad storm) ... 20 ft waves and wind.. lasted anout 30 hours...not so much nauseating but felt like someone picked up the ship and shook us like a snowglobe...

Good description of how I felt in October cruise of 2005!!!:lmao:

I did not mark your post regarding ressies so I am using this one. We can take a head count the week before (6 weeks from now :scared1: ) and we can decide who is not pulling their hair out at that point can call. I will mark it on my calendar.

If I pull hard enough ..........my hair piece will come off!!:rotfl2:

Question...since we have not actually had a successful trip to Castaway Cay...to mail postcards from there..do we use US stamps or do we have to purchase stamps there? DD wants to mail some postcards to friends back home and I want to make sure I have what we need..

Thanks!

My postcard took six weeks and my DD never got hers!!:scared:

Hey Crew! Spent the weekend sprucing up the house for possible sale. Still no word from the seller (bank) on if they'll take our offer. DH thinks we'll hear today since it's the last day of the quarter and there are quotas to meet. I'm thinkin' it a short week due to the holiday. So, who knows. :confused3

My hearing's not what it should be either - still haven't recovered all my hearing from perforating my ear drum diving a few weeks ago. Of course, I already had loss in the middle ranges - so now it a real problem. DH is getting really tired of having to repeat everything. I feel a hearing aid coming on in my future.

ONE MORE DAY TILL SABBATICAL!!!!!!

I think I can. I think I can. I think I can...

.

You can do it!!! You can do it!!!:cheer2: Good luck with the house.:thumbsup2

Thanks Diane! How's things? How's Mike? How's the kids?
Did you graduate???

We're all good here, thanks for asking. Right now DD is in charge of watching the neighbors cats while the neighbors are away all week. This has a nice perk because they have a built in pool & they told us to use it as much as we like. It's been fun, but I got eaten alive the other night & my ankles look just lovely. Hope they clear up before NEXT MONTH.

We just took out a home equity loan to do some more renovations to this house. We go back & forth about renovating to sell or renovating to make it what we want & stay. :confused3

Doesn't hurt to have some extra money on hand for this trip coming up either. I need new clothes, souveniers, drinks of the day....;)

As for school....I STILL haven't heard back from the professor. He told me weeks ago he was going to send my thesis back to me & nothing yet. So I emailed him AGAIN last week & I'm waiting to hear. I'm starting to get nervous because if I don't get this done by the fall I will have to reapply for graduation, which means more money for them! But I really really want this off my back before the TOAL! :headache:

Aren't you glad you asked? ;)
