7DMT TV Commercial-Misleading?

How would anyone get the idea that it was a scary fast ride from that commercial :confused3

I have to agree. I just watched the commercial on YouTube and I agree. It's pretty obvious the commercial is intentionally "dramatic" and I personally wouldn't think it was a fast paced/intense coaster.

Well, my FOUR and SEVEN year old CHILDREN must be total morons because they lack the perspective of adults. :rolleyes1

They slowed down the family walking, and it was pretty obvious they sped up the ride part. Plus, I thought the commercial was cute. I am a sucker for pun commercials, though they could have gone one step further and given the dwarves guitars and made them a band. The new dwarves ride "ROCKS!" Get it? Get it? Goes side to side? :lmao:

If I was 13 years old again I would be more mislead that wearing shades with my folks while walking around the park would get me a "How ya doin" look from a cute older girl.

Having rode the ride with several 14 year olds (mind you, none of them were hardcore Disney fans), I can tell you none of them considered this attraction anything remotely close to a thrill ride. While it's a gaudy and odd attempt by Disney, they are trying to make it appear faster and more thrilling.

Trust me, not a day can go by where I'm watching television recently (which is usually only for 30 or 40 minutes or so of Nightly New and/or local news) when I don't hear this "high-ho" thing here in Florida. All arguments aside, it's a weird ad.

It doesn't look real at all. So strange.

As they taught us in Film Class, there are no accidents in film making. If it is up on the screen, it was put there intentionally and with a purpose. Somebody decided to speed up the coaster. And they had a reason for doing so even though it makes the ad strange and weird. One obvious reason would be to make people think that this is a really fast coaster. There may be other reasons, but I haven't seen a credible alternative offered here yet. But based on the bolded truism from Film Class, the decision to alter the speed cannot be chalked up to: "It's just an ad." In no way does that delve into the mindset of the film maker. If there were ever to be a "Director's Cut" of the ad with overlaid commentary, I can assure you that the director would not say: "I don't know why we sped up the coaster. I guess we just thought it would look cool. Let it go." :rotfl2:

I agree. I'm not acting like I got tricked into thinking it is a thrilling coaster, but the fact that they sped it up on purpose is what annoys me a little bit. It's like... If you wanted it to be fast then why didn't you make it fast? What are you trying to do here? Did you have a change of mind about your target audience?

I know I'll still enjoy the ride and I'm glad there's a second outdoor coaster at MK. It should be cool in the night time.

Amusement parks shouldn't embellish how much fun their rides are. For instance this still shot from a recent TV spot by Six Flags, where despite FAA regulations and the fact that temperatures above the clouds would cause your paying customers' to likely die via hypothermia, you can totally get nuts on this crazy new ride

I must be the only one, but I love the commercial. I think it is silly and catchy and makes me laugh, glasses and all! Although I may still be on the Disney high from our trip 2 weeks ago!

We rode 7DMT 2 times too and all loved it from my 7 year old daughter to 60 year old mother! I kind of knew given the height requirement it would not be a thrill ride though so there was no let down here.

We were disappointed. Just rode this afternoon and honestly I think Barnstormer has more thrills.

OP- you are right, the commercial is completely misleading.

I definitely agree there was a reason they sped it up and that it was a conscious decision. But, the idea that it was done to misrepresent the ride as an intense coaster is fringe-level, conspiracy theory stuff. Pretty silly. More likely, it was sped up to squeeze more footage into a 30-second spot, or for artistic effect within the commercial itself (i.e., brisk, up-tempo shots juxtaposed with the slow-mo stuff on foot).

That commercial was so funny in a sad way. If anyone believes that load of poo I feel sorry for them. It is a cute kiddie coaster. My Dh was almost angry when he got off of it. Disappointed and underwhelmed were 2 words he used. Our 3 year old loved It and I described it as cute but forgettable. I will say that it is much better in the back of the train, but that video poorly deposits the ride IMHO.

Eh, typical Disney marketing. Yes, the filmmakers had a purpose and intentionally sped up the footage. Damned if I know what the purpose is, but I doubt anyone is fooled or misled. It's an obvious exaggeration. Most people accept it for what it is: a marketing gimmick.

It's like that billboard out on World Drive showing Tower of Terror dangling at an acute angle. (Is that still there?) Just an exaggeration. Nobody takes it seriously.

The ad for SDMT that sometimes appears here on the DIS is even more ridiculous than the TV ad.

At least your 3YO could ride it. The height restriction on this ride is ridiculous. My 37 inch 3YO will be denied. Watched a ride through of it on YT and it is half the ride he rode 6x this weekend at Sesame Place.

But they don't show it going just as fast as SM. They show it going faster than 34 mph. Indeed, it is shown going as fast or faster than RnR or EE due to the shifted film speed. Either the ride stands on its own merits or it does not. Are special effects needed to sell the public on the ride?
But- all of the other amusement parks do it too.... for emphasis!! Now- how come I don't see you complaining about Gringotts Bank Coaster that's not even a real rollercoaster but a virtual reality rollercoaster???? :confused3 http://popwatch.ew.com/2014/05/13/escape-from-gringotts-harry-potter-universal-orlando/

Are you going to be just as annoyed when Universal shows a commercial of folks flying through the bank vault when in reality they are barely moving at all and just being shoved from screen to screen???? :confused3

Yup!! I completely agree with you, Jim!! :)

I must be as naïve as a child, then, because I would think it was a faster coaster based on that commercial. It looks somewhat more intense than BTMRR with the sped-up film (and, frankly, not having immersed myself in all things 7DMT I didn't know it was so slow/tame until I read it in this thread).

I think Disney is setting the general masses up for disappointment. I wouldn't be surprised if the reaction of *most* average park goers is "cute but one-and-done" for 7DMT based on everything I've read about it here and other boards. The commercial, however, makes it look like a Space or Splash Mtn "must do several times every day spent in MK" kind of ride.

I have seen ads of little girls walking hand in hand with Cinderella, and little boys walking hand in hand with Mickey Mouse in a virtually empty park?

Misleading? Naaa, just a commercial.

So true. I have seen those commercials and they probably do entice people to book a Disney trip thinking that they will be able to do those things. Walk hand in hand with Mickey or get on a ride with a different character.

The reviews are pretty "awesome" across the board for Gringotts. Here is one of the first of many to come.:thumbsup2

and what an embarrassing commercial. Those glasses... and that music. Yikes.

I'm a ride chicken, so the fact that a PP described it as having fewer thrills than Barnstormer is a positive for me :rotfl: But I'm sorry so many people are disappointed.

My Dad saw a commercial for SDMT and their local news (from Tampa) did a story about it. I don't know exactly what commercial he saw, but when he mentioned it to me he said it looked like it would be fun for the kids. He knows my oldest son is a chicken (freaked out on Barnstormer last year while my Dad was riding it with him) and we have a two and three year old who are not thrill seekers. So obviously there is advertising out there that gives the impression it is not a super awesome thrilling new coaster. Everyone interprets things differently I guess.
