7DMT Not Worth the Wait - for Us!

Ok, I just got back and want to provide an honest review after riding 7DMT for our first time - not trying to be controversial - one family opinion please!

First, context is critical to this review. My children are older - 19, 14 and 11. We have been to WDW 4 times, Universal Orlando last March (kids loved it!). So they are in to the "big coasters" now. We had FastPass+ for 7DMT for 3 different days (I booked them at 60 days). We rode it the first time on Tue (1/13) with minimal wait - thank goodness! Standby I believe at the time was around 60-90 minutes.

The conclusion? For us - it did not live up to the hype! We changed the remaining 2 FP+ for the remaining 2 days to either BTMR or Space Mountain (so hope someone on these boards got to use them!)

- We loved the theme and visuals! It is beautiful to look at from beginning to end.
But look fast!
- Ride is way too short. One ride just started and finished in the time I took to type to this point...
- The swaying of the cars is minimal - and doesn't really add much to the ride. The coaster itself is, well, as my kids said, "boring."
- The cars are very small - made for toddlers? - you are wedged in the car. I am 6' 2" with lanky frame and felt squashed with a stockier gentlemen next to me - not overweight but stocky build and we were squished in the car.
- It is better coaster for younger kids - I think my daughter would have loved it more when she was 6 - right at that "Barnstormer is getting boring but BTMR and SM maybe still too much." Even so, the length of the ride for me would still necessitate a much shorter wait (30 minutes or less!) or FP+ only.

I would certainly recommend trying to get a FP+ or getting there first thing in the morning or late at night to experience the ride with a short wait - it is fun to experience at least once and judge for yourself if a wait is worth it the second time. For us, it just wasn't.

Your experience is not uncommon. I will add it was never designed to be much more than a kiddie coaster, though for some reason many expect more.

You just summed up what the seven dwarfs mine train IS and what it was intended for.

A lot of people that dislike it give the obvious reasons of its too short and for young kids. But that is what the coaster is geared toward. It wasn't made to compete with Rockin Rollercoaster or Space Mountain. It's set in the middle of New Fantasyland, which is for the younger kids, so it is indeed a coaster for kids.

I'm 23 and I love all coasters. I don't think there's a rollercoaster anywhere that I'd be too intimated to ride.. But yet I enjoy 7 dwarfs. I don't ride it for a thrill (even though the very last row will get my stomach on the drop due to the speed lol) but I enjoy it for what it is. A kiddie coaster that takes a small space in the middle of new fantasyland and utilizes it well with all the while being appealing on the eyes.

I think the people that don't enjoy it are the ones going on it thinking that their going to get the same thrill as a ride geared more toward teens and adults (btm, sm, rockin rollercoaster, test track, etc). If you know what you're getting into and knowing it's geared toward the younger crowd, I think you enjoy it more

The one tip I recommend to make it a lot more fun is to ride it at night and in the back row. It's a lot better experience than riding at daytime or near the front

Yep....we were lucky and got FP the first week it opened.....and haven't bothered since. It was a "do it once so you can say you did", for us.

FP was all booked for this when I looked for our date, but honestly I wasn't going to bother as I have heard the same from others that they were underwhelmed. I let my kids 8 and 6 watch it on youtube and they were not to excited about it so we used our passes elsewhere. It's definitely popular though.

So glad I read this, we just changed ours from 7DMT to Space. Probably should have tried it once but this sounds very definitive.

Thanks! This honest assessment helped me realize that 7DMT isn't a "must do" for me and my family.

It's easy to get swept up in all the hype.

We had the opposite experience. I read all the reviews online and had very low expectations because of them, we loved it! We being me, DH and our kids ages 18 & 14.

It's one of our favorite rides at the MK now.

It actually wasn't even in the plans of the original rehab of Fantasyland, the imagineers first designed the new Fantasyland with even more princesses, more meet and greets, basically aimed at girls between 6-10.Eventually decided to at least build something young boys might enjoy as well,so they found what little space was left and designed the 7DMT,that's why it ended up opening last in Fantasyland. When it first opened pretty much all the threads said the same thing,it was nicely themed but they expected something a bit more thrilling for the long wait times.I knew what it was going to be from the beginning so it didn't surprise me.I like it,I know it's not a thrill ride but I enjoy it anyways, nice theme and I like the interior dark ride section. But I agree, I don't know why it surprises so many people that it's not more.I was amazed I was at MK the Friday morning at opening and 99% of everyone at the gate went straight for the 7DMT,I was just making some time to then go to a hotel for the marathon expo so when I saw the line almost outside Fantasyland when I reached the ride I skipped it and went straight to Space Mountain with no wait.

After reading reveiws before i went, i knew wat to expect and we had gotten a fast pass at the 60 day mark to skip the line. I think it was cute and i would do it again (since im going to disney to experience everything everytime) but i wouldnt wait for 60 to 120 mins for it. Maybe 30 that would probably be my cutoff

Agreed that it's a very short ride and therefore I wouldn't wait in line too long for it along with Toy Story but then again I never understood waiting in line for over an hour for anything. I get it that lines get long but when I see waits as long as two hours I think of all the thing that could have gotten done in those two hours.

Yep, and because of that it was the last to be completed.

It seems one's own expectations in this ride have a huge effect on how much it is enjoyed. My family and I knew what it was going in, and we all liked it very much.

I'd read so many responses like this that I had pretty low expectations for our first time. We had two FP+ luckily so we waited, maybe 3 minutes. However, our family (all over 18 too) enjoyed it enough. Though do wish it swayed more, about what I expected for a family ride though. Certainly not worth the wait times it had for December.

I am grateful for 7DMT. Dh hates coasters. Wont hardly ever ride. Did I say he hates coasters or anything that he thinks might be scary? He liked this one, probably because it is more like a kiddie coaster. Because he liked it though he was and is more willing to try other new rides (he is even willing to give Gringott's a go for our next trip at U ). Did I say I love 7DMT ;)

It's a great kiddie coaster. DH and I went knowing of the small seats and short ride length. Yes, seats are small but not awful. We are both in the 200 lb range and 5.4 and 5.9. It was "cozy" but not painful. But yes, the ride is soooo quick.

We never used our second FP. We didn't want to go into MK, just for that FP. We had already spent three days there.

My boyfriend and I rode it this past NYE for the first time and loved it. We don't enjoy huge drops on coasters so this is more our speed! We thought it was great fun, but that said, both agreed we would not wait more than 30 minutes for it. Luckily we had a FP - the line was at something like 170-180 minutes if I remember correctly! It was craziness. The only thing close to it in wait time was Peter Pan (as usual).

For myself and DS, it is nicely themed and a fun ride. Certainly not something we would wait more than 20 minutes for. If we have a FP or the line is short (not very common) it is great for what it is.

DD LOVES, LOVES, LOVES it. It is a must do for her and she would ride it several times if the lines were not so long. She also enjoys BTMRR, but will not go on space.

It really does depend on your expectations and what you like for rides. I do agree it is a little short and they could have made it last a little longer, even with a small footprint.

The thrill level was perfect for me (I don't do Space or Everest) but it was way too short.

After riding once, we ditched our second FP+ for Space for the kids.

7DMT was DD's favorite ride at Disney. She was almost 4 years old. DS also loved it - he was almost 5 1/2. We rode at rope drop two different days and had no wait at all. It was an IDEAL first roller coaster for the 4/5/6 year old. Allowed DD to get her feet wet and be comfortable with what roller coasters are. She wanted to ride Big Thunder after riding 7DMT (which she definitely didn't before) but was not quite 40" tall so didn't get to.

I'd wait up to 30 minutes for the ride if I had younger kids. I'd skip it if I was just an adult/teen if the line was more than 20 minutes. It's fun but not a must do for older kids & adults.
