How fun/interesting/worth it is it to use a FP+ for a 12 yo boy on 7DMT? I only know this is one of the "hot new rides" but nothing else about it. My son loves thrill rides, the bigger, the faster, the more upside down, the better. Obviously, Disney doesn't have much that meets that criteria but I'm wondering if I should "waste" FP on this ride for him? Is it a great ride? I know that it's not a super thrill ride, and that's ok, but I want to know if it's still a lot of fun or kind of meh, nothing super special.

We just returned today. My 12yo son is the same as you describe and I can tell you his review of 7DMT: "Dad, that ride was lame. I'm glad we didn't wait 90 minutes for it".

So, in conclusion - if you must ride it - use your FP+ for it because it isn't worth waiting in line for it.

It really is a great ride, but I can totally see a boy that age not really digging it. It's more of a Disney ride than a thrill ride. The coaster is mild but the animatronic scenes are great (albeit short). Boys that age probably aren't after artistry in their rides, but rather thrills. There might not be too much at Disney to suit him at all though.

I agree with BrianL that it is a great little ride. Excellent theming and I love how smooth a ride it gives. Perfectly located for Fantasyland and for younger kids getting the hang of coasters. But by no stretch of the imagination is it a thrill ride. I think your son would find it "lame". But better to experience it once for the theming with a FP than to spend 90 minutes in standby.

In terms of thrills, 7DMT is probably on par with the Barnstormer. It is not a thrill ride, it is a Disney family coaster, great design, decoration, smoothness. It's worth the FP because of the popularity and how long the line gets, it's either FP or first thing at rope drop.

I love thrill rides. I rode 7DMT after spending the previous day at US riding all the real thrill rides there. After reading the reviews here I knew dwarves was too short. With a FP+ I did not wait at all, and though it was short, it was fun. I think that with a proper set up, it can be enjoyed. Let's face it, Disney is truly lacking in thrill rides, I can only think of four that come close (including MS orange), so thrill seekers have to find fun where they can.

My oldest daughter loves thrill rides and she also loves SDMT. But she's also really loves Snow White. If this is a surprise trip I'd probably get a FP+ for it, because better to have one than wait in line for over an hour when you're in the park and he says he wants to ride it. If it's not a surprise trip I'd just ask him and/or let him watch a video on YouTube and decide for himself.

My 11DS liked it and he rode it several times using FP+ and child swap. It's really smooth and it was something different.

We sat in the very back and loved it. I mean, it's no thrill ride, but it did go faster than I expected and I could feel the rocking which was pretty neat. There's just no big drops so you don't get that stomach drop feeling. Still worth it once though.

I think the 2 mountains are the better options for your boy in MK. 7DMT is cute but it is not a thrill ride at all. More than a deluxe junior roller coaster.

It's a very nicely themed kiddie coaster. I wouldn't wait more than 5 minutes for it.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is a much better ride. Make sure you take him on it at night.

As a ride it fits exactly between Barnstormer (one hill one roll out) and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (three hills, three roll outs) as it has two hills and two roll outs. The swaying cars and the theming are what makes it unique.

Thanks everyone, for your input. I currently have a FP+ for him for it. But I think I will give it up and switch to BTMRR. From the sounds of it, my 8 year old, much less into thrill rides, daughter will love 7 Dwarves! She and her dad will ride it with FP+ and he and I will get our "thrills" on BTMRR.

7DMT isn't really a ride for the "thrill seeker" coaster riders. Its a very nice coaster but it doesn't go high............it doesn't go particularly fast..........no loops or inversions............and it slows mid way for a inside scene..........and finally, its 90 seconds to short. I can definitely see why a 12 year old coaster kid.........wouldn't really be impressed. I like it for what it is.........but then again I'm an old man :)

If you're going to ride it anyway, keep the fast pass. It might not be repeatable, but it's certainly good for a ride once. You'd be better off going and doing BTMRR at rope drop where you can do it multiple times with little wait. 7DMT will never be that slow, even at rope drop.

We are trying 7DMT for the first time this October and don't expect much of a "thrill" but that isn't really Disney's thing. We do enjoy Expedition Everest and think it is the best coaster at Disney World. Rock n Roller Coaster is also a good thrill ride but too short. Tower of Terror is great fun and we'll do that several times. Big Thunder isn't really a "thrill" ride but we really like it -- at Magic Kingdom Space Mountain is probably closest thing to a thrill ride. California Screamin' is by far the best Disney coaster -- wish they had that at Disney World.

I haven't been on it yet, but will use a FP for it and keep expectations low. I am just curious about it, at this point, because it was behind walls being built the last time I was at MK. As long as you set expectations that it is not that kind of coaster, I think it will be fun to do once, and since it sounds really popular, I'd use a FP+ so it's not a big time commitment.

You may be surprised. My boys are in high school and college - they all thought it was great! The rocking cars are very unique and it does go faster than you'd expect. Not a thrill ride by any means, but fun none the less. I'd keep 1 FP+ for it and let him give it a try.

I've been that 12 year old boy. He will not like it at all, and I would not be surprised (if he's anything like I was) if he doesn't care for Space BTMR or even RnR/Everest. If he's used to the big rides at Cedar Point and Six Flags, make sure he's not going in expecting to find a new favorite coaster or even one in his top 20.
