I think I screwed up by not getting a 7 dwarfs mine ride fast pass plus. I was so worried about getting the Elsa/Anna one (which I got), that I just assumed I would do this new ride right at rope drop.

Now I'm hearing that RD lines are at least an hour!

Of course I looked at changing now and they are completely gone for next week when we are there.

Any chance of scoring a fast pass the day of, or as a 4th pick?? should I stick with the RD strategy?

Being so new, I highly doubt you'll get it as a 4th FP. On busy days it's gone along with Splash, Big Thunder, Space Mountain, etc.

Rope drop is your best bet. Get there early, walk brisk, and you'll be on with a short wait. I rode opening day from RD with about a 15-20 min wait

If you don't arrive there early or can't walk quickly to the ride, then see a CM when you get there and they might be able to set you up with a FP for it. That would mean you haven't already selected your 3 and would be doing it then. You could score a FP for it

We got there at rope drop last Saturday and were on and done by 08:55 (on a 09:00 opening day). Just get to the Magic Kingdom well before the welcome show starts and go through the arch on the right hand side and stick to the right hand side of the road. Don't go through the castle - go to the right hand side as if you are heading to the Teacups.

Cast members are walking everyone down main street and then walking each group to their destination; its crazy but as long as you stick to your path you will be fine.

If you can, go just before closing too. Its even better at night :thumbsup2

We had fast passes for the day time but really wanted to ride it at night. The posted time was 90 minutes but we only waited 45 minutes during the parade. The line started just a little bit into the actual que. I never wait that long for anything but I would for this one at least at night when it is not so hot. While you are outside they have fans all along the que which make it really pleasant. One you get inside the cave area it is amazing to see the attention to detail and the interactive areas were fun. We moved forward fairly often (didn't just stand still for long at a time) which makes it better for me I can handle a line as long as I feel like I'm making progress. I actually enjoyed it and felt like it was a little break while we were waiting. I would highly suggest doing the stand by line once even if you get a fast pass. We got there one morning about 9:20 and the line went way outside around the mountain but by about 10:30 it had really went down. So if you are going to try it at rope drop I would make sure to be at the front of the pack.

We are here this week also. Trying not to spend time on DIS but want to encourage OP. We did wait about 45 minutes yesterday because the ride was no open at RD - some technical/mechanical/something issue. The line was less than 10 min long once the ride started going. We arrived by resort bus to MK and thru tapstiles only a few minutes before opening show. This was not an EMH day. I encourage you to try a RD for SDMT - it really should be OK.
Alternately we arrived in Florida Friday afternoon and did not have FP+ for SDMT, so we watched MSEP thru Wishes, rode BTMRR then got in SB line for SDMT at about 10:45. Park close that night was midnight. Wait time was listed as 60 minutes but actually took only 30 min. So, you have options without FP+ if you are there are RD or stay in park until close to closing. Good luck and have fun.

If you cant get on at rope drop try right before closing. Wait times drop off a bunch.

Are you staying on site? If so, can you go on an EMH morning? I monitored wait times this morning on the app during EMH. At 8:20 SDMT was temporarily closed. At 8:45 it showed a 30 min wait, which really isn't bad considering it had been closed. But by 8:55 it showed a 60 min wait (I'm guessing that's when all the off-site guests joined the queue).
