7DMR - Line jumping

I've seen it. I've been annoyed. You feel a bit helpless as its usually when you are in the middle of the line with no CM'S in sight. It reminds me of when you are driving and there's construction with a lane closing and there are those people who just drive up all the way to the front, even though everyone else has merged into the lane they're supposed to be in. It's ignorance. It's people who are ignorant and think their time is more important than yours. It's not right. One of my biggest pet peeves...while driving and in lines at WDW!!

Since standing/mobility/stamina are your issues, I doubt you'd get a DAS. You are responsible for your needs, and Disney offers rental wheelchairs, ECVs, etc for mobility issues. If you choose not to use them, that's your choice. But WDW queues are tight, long, indoors, and windy.



Have her pee before getting into a long queue. That's what we do.



It's fine if you don't want to use a wheelchair, but that's the accommodation WDW uses for mobility issues. Be prepared to stand in queues, and not be able to cut through a few hundred people criss-crossed through an indoor, walled up, packed line.

Oh, I absolutely will. I am just making my contingency plans.

I was in the FP line at Buzz Lightyear in September 2016 and watched a group of 12 people jump over from the standby line to the FP line.
I heard them talking about being tired of waiting and watching the "cheaters" as they called us who were in the FP line get on quicker than them.

Since Disney turned off the 2nd FP checkpoint at that ride, I think it's becoming more common to have that happen.

You can try and rejoin the line, but be aware that it may not be easy. You will have to push against people. Depending on how far the rest of your group has gotten, you may have a lot of walking to do to catch up with them. And some people may not let you by them. When the kids were little the contingency was we would let those who had to leave leave, and the rest of us went on the ride.

Yep, from reading, I reckon, if it happens, she and I will leave the line, and then wait at the exit for DH and DS. I suspect that will cause the least amount of problem all round. Hopefully she can ride stuff she likes later if necessary.

Can I just say how jealous I am that you've been so many times as a solo traveller, I haven't managed one but it's my dream one day, for totally selfish reasons - to please myself everyday in visiting what I want, eating where I want and chilling when I want. One day................

I can sure understand your frustration! I was on I-16 heading toward Savannah and saw how the zipper merged worked well. Everyone stayed in whatever lane they were in and just merged when needed and the traffic barely slowed down. But around where I live, I doubt it would work - we drive like crazy people and I do count myself in that.

Back to on topic - I used to block line cutters myself but now I don't. Maybe its because I've seen people be more aggressive or because I've been so many times I just know I'll get on the ride eventually. It's tough watching them cut the lines though.

This just changed my life (totally serious - no sarcasm at all). I'm a total rule follower, so these zipper merge instances made me CRAZY. I felt just like the previous posted who said all those people think their time is more valuable than everyone else. Now that I know this is allowed (the article actually ENCOURAGED it), I am totally going to take advantage of this

A zipper merge allows one car from each side to merge to one alternately (like the teeth in a zip - or zipper, if you like)
This is surely way different from some twonk driving up the inside past many cars then forcing their way in at the last minute?

On New Years day, in the Expedition Everest queue, I witnessed a huge argument about this. In the end, the people who were cutting in line went ahead and did it. I could tell the person that confronted the line jumper was going to let it ruin her night. She complained about it throughout the whole queue. I totally get it, but it was 2 people and the wait for EE was like 10 minutes because it was closing time. I understand the frustration of people line jumping, but I don't say anything. I've witnessed it a few times. I'm not brave enough to say anything.

Yes, a zipper merge is totally different animal than people that change lanes to cut in front of cars in their lane in order to get to the front. We all just need to chill out and be smarter than the machines we operate--the difference in time is mere minutes. Courtesy goes a long way.

As for the line cutting-- I'm fairly aggressive by nature and training, and not afraid in the least of confrontation. I am a "gap closer"--in a confrontation, I will close the gap, not back up. (And I haven't even ever stepped foot in New Jersey but I guess I would fit right in, lol) But, that said, I'm also considerate. I won't do or say anything that would be more upsetting to other guests than the line cutting is. Most of the time in WDW there are lots of small children that would be frightened if adults got ugly with one another.

And really, when I see people going to the front I tend to assume they have a physical problem that precludes them standing in line, and rather than get upset a say a quick prayer of thanks for being healthy enough to stand for long periods of time. I would hope, should the day come that I couldn't, people would be generous in spirit towards me, so I extend that small grace now.

Life is too short, and too precious, to upset myself unduly over other people's ignorance and/or lack of consideration. I go to Disney knowing there will be lines. My family and I don't much care as long as we are together.

I had this happen as TSMM in the FP+ lane. My sister & I were coming around the corner & a few children jumped the area that connects it. My sister starting making loud comments about it all the way up to the CM. The 2nd FP+ was on & none of them were able to get through. We passed them on the way in & heard the CM telling them they cannot line jump and they should have just got a FP+ if they wanted to be in that lane. I am glad it resolved itself.

I have experienced it a lot at Disneyland, but very little at WDW. Line jumping in Disneyland is blatant. They just crawl over short gates and bushes and flat-out cut in front of people where in WDW they use the lines.

To be honest, as rude and annoying as it is, I let the people go without a fight. There are huge, huge problems in this world and so much hatred and evil....this is really the least of my worries.

I was at Disneyland last year on my first trip to a Disney park after being diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis and fibromyalgia. I have difficulty standing in long lines. I asked Guest Relations for a disability pass but was denied. The CM suggested that i use a wheel chair, but I really do not want or need one while navigating a park. (I don't have much of an issue walking). He then suggested that my party split up and that my wife should call or text me when she was near the entrance to a ride. This is what I did. Over the course of a week I was asked a few times why I was 'cutting' the line and at first I explained to anyone who asked. But in the end I just ignored people and moved on. This did lead to one huge argument with another guest and me getting a few FP's. We have a trip scheduled to DW in late December and I'm hoping things run more smoothly.

I don't disagree with the DAS policy. But, there are disabled people who do not need or want a wheelchair or rollator.



If I am told again by Guest Services at DW to have my family call/text me to meet them at the front of the line then it is Policy and not rudeness. As someone who is disabled I take offense to that remark.

........ And I have never ever heard of DW telling people to phone/cut in line. You need to be prepared to rent a scooter or ECV if you want to enjoy your vacation without having to stand in the lines.

When the DAS first came out I went to to GS and explained my needs and was told to wait in line as long as I could, then go the rest room to handle my problem, then just push my way back into the line with the rest of my party. I was shocked that I was told to do this. I expressed that I would try it but felt that it was going to be very difficult. The first over an hour line was Splash and I left the line and then tried to re-enter. It was horrid and I was so embarrassed. I ended up not riding any thing else with an over an hour wait for the rest of the trip. On our next trip I spoke to GS again and explained what happened. I was able to get a DAS and that has made waiting so much easier for me and I do not have to push my way to the front of the line and thus piss everyone off.

So, yes some CM's will tell you to "line jump".

The zipper merge it great! However if you see no one is using the zipper method it is going to be met with hostility. If they truly want people to adopt this method they need to post signs that say "zipper merge ahead". This will increase awareness and acceptance.
