Anyone care to venture a guess of the savings % of downgrading to a 7A (cheapest veranda with obstruction) from a 5C (cheapest plexiglass without obstruction)?

With the new pricing rule that doesn’t consider the date of the original booking in determining the price of the new stateroom, it is impossible to answer your question.

If the original booking was done early on Platinum opening day, it costs the lowest possible price for that stateroom. After that, the prices of the different categories go up as they are filled. If you then decide to switch, you are effectively booking a new room at the current price. The savings will be based both on timing of the change and the level of downgrade.

Sorry- to clarify I was just trying to guess how much more a 5c would be from the lowest veranda rates quoted for new itineraries announced today. I should have said “upgrading” from a 7a. :)

Reporting back to answer my own question in case others are looking to book a 7a on the Dream/Fantasy to save $$....
We just booked the 7 night Greek Isles cruise as Platinum yesterday. I had originally requested a 7a as the savings from downgrading from a 5C to a 7a on our 2019 Iceland cruise were significant- just under 10%. For this cruise, however, the savings only worked out to around 5%. So for a few hunderd dollars, my nice TA quickly moved us to a mid ship cat 5 rom our original 7a.

For the 6-night July Fantasy cruise I booked this morning, the price difference for a party of two was $336 dollars. Totally worth it to me as the obstruction will provide shade (summer cruise) but it's still a verandah, and we're starboard.

Which ship class? The 7A's are different on Magic/Wonder than they are on Dream/Fantasy.

I was referring to the Dream. And going with the Cat 5 put us midship instead of aft which I think is more valuable in the Dream class ships.

But for some the 7a is worth it as it was for us in Iceland. I was mainly noting that it may not be the savings that it once was. YMMV :)
