Soooo who's watching the Oscars tomorrow night?

What are your picks/predictions?

For Best Picture I pick "Crash", but know it's a fleeting hope that it will win. My prediction is that "Brokeback Mountain" will walk off with the golden bald guy in that catagory. Hoping that "Crash" wins in each catagory in which it is nominated. :thumbsup2

Not sure if I am going to watch. Not sure why but I don't think they'll give any to Brokeback Mountain.

I hope Brokeback gets nothing. Plenty of more deserving "Westerns" over the years.

I hope Crash gets nothing because of Oprah's supposed "Crash" moment at that European store. (I know the movie is not about Oprah, but still.)

It's a longshot but I really hope Matt Dillon gets the Oscar for best supporting actor. He was amazing in Crash. Thats the only film I saw nominated for best picture, the other ones just didn't interest me.

As far as Crash goes, the story has been done before and done much better IMO. The original Crash from the 90's was good, but what about LA Story? I think it did a much better job of getting the same point across. I think the most amazing race relations film was Gentleman's Agreement. It won the Academy Award for best picture in 1947.

I'll definately be watching tonight. I'll have my gown and tiara on with martini in hand ;)

hoping for Crash to win most. Reese Witherspoon for Best Actress(?).

I haven't seen any of the movies nominated, but will watch anyway like I always do!

I agree. I thought he was very good.

We'll be watching - sort of an occasion at our house, we love movies, though I haven't seen many of those nominated this year.

DS16 is the biggest movie buff, but he's working until 9 tonight, so will miss the beginning red carpet stuff. (He works at AMC, BTW!)

George Clooney grew up and spent most of his life until the 80's in this area, they have a whole spread on him in the newspaper today. He actually went to my college for a short time. I'd like to see him get something anyway.

:sunny:

I was very disappointed "Walk the Line" was not nominated ofr best picture! It was FAR BETTER than "Crash" in my opinion. "Crash" was too over the top for me to take it seriously; I just think it tried too hard.

My picks:
Actor in a Leading Roll
Joaquin Phoenix-WALK THE LINE

Actor in a Supporting Roll
Jake Gyllenhaal-BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN

Actress in a Leading Roll

CRASH from 1996 was a David Cronenberg movie about people who became sexually aroused by car crashes.

LA STORY was about a weatherman trying to date a British reporter.

Neither of these films was about race relations.

GRAND CANYON had a similar theme of people from different classes and races crossing paths in Los Angeles.

I watched Gentleman's Agreement this morning and although I thought it dragged in parts, I did enjoy it.

Well, that'll teach me to post before I've had my morning coffee :surfweb: It was Grand Canyon that I was thinking of. I thought it was much more subtle, Crash was just too overdone/over the top for me. I did enjoy parts of it but it just seemed too contrived. I'm glad you liked Gentleman's Agreement, that's my all time favorite film classic. I think we'd all like to believe that life isn't that way anymore but in reality I'm afraid it that way a good deal of the time.

Haven't seen any of the nominated movies. I'm only watching because of Jon Stewart.

I was confused also about what the poster meant, "Crash" has nothing to do with either of those movies mentioned! But while we're on the subject, I really did love the film LA Story with Steve Martin. I think it was his best work ever. He really showed he could act in that film. My favorite scene is when Steve Martin and Victoria Tennant are walking and then they turn into children, the most beautiful song is playing. I love that film, sorry to get off topic!

I'm watching the "Live From the Red Carpet" right now...love to see what everyone is wearing! I haven't seen many of the movies this year, but have been reading what I see about them. Here is my guesses on the winners...

Matt Dillon is looking good. I really hope he will win, but I think it will be Clooney.
