We have ap rate at AKL in July for the three of us. My older son has decided to go with us, so to be honest, I called to add him to the group.

Our rate jumped $75 for the 2 nights....I called back today to double check, because that was the rate before the AP discount for the three of us, and yes, to add another person was 25 a night plus 11% tax. This is for absolutely Nothing additional, no extra bed, no extra towels nothing! We won't even be getting there till late every night, doubt we will even use the pool.

I know I could call and take him off and save the money, but I'd rather just pay it and be ticked off ( privately) then worry about getting caught, and also about setting a bad example for the kids.

It just hacks me off that we are paying a fortune for this hotel, and to charge another 75 because our son is also in the room is ridiculous.

thanks for letting me vent, I feel better,

i understand your frustration... is your son over 18? if not, there should not be a charge...

All Disney resorts charge an extra fee for more than 2 adults in a room.

Values - $10/night
Mods - $15/night
Deluxe- $25/night

This has been in effect for quite awhile....

I have heard many reports of people adding the third person at checkin and not being charged.

It is not just Disney most hotels charge when more then two adults (over 18)are in the room. Some even charge when there are more then two people in the room even if they others are kids

If you take him off the reservation then he won't have a room key when you are there

Our DD is 19 now and we have been charged the $25 fee at deluxe resorts for having an additional adult. Actually, with most hotels that we stay in, the rate is usually for 2 adults and anything over that is an extra charge. With my calculator though, I'm only coming out with $55.50 ($25 + 11% x 2 nights). I don't see how CRO is getting a $75 increase? The way I look at it though, at this age, how many more family vacations are they going to want to go on. Probably a lot if mom & dad are still paying ;), but that's beside the point.

If i had added him when we made the original ressie in jan., while he was still 17, i wouldn't be paying the extra..I guess it is just frustration....

he doesnt' need a room key, he'll be with his brother, or I could give him mine.

The Swan didn't charge for children, when I made the res there, i made it for 2 adults, 2 children, not even thinking of him as anything but my child (hard to let that go  ,

I'm over the ticked off stage now, just happy that he is able to go with us, but i will be changing that Wildnerness lodge res in december.

They actually ask you the childrens ages at the time of travel, so you probably would have to pay anyway...

He will need a resort id to attend EMH....

No Disney resort charges extra for children in the room, unless they are 18+. The Swan does also charge $25 per night for additional adults over the limit of 2. Just curious as to why you would need to change an existing WL reservation. I'm not the moral police, but I think that if he were 17 when you made it, I would leave it alone. You can always mention it when you check in and let the desk staff decide whether to charge you. We've only stayed at Disney twice with DD being over the age of 18. Once we were charged and once we were not.

we will have done that earlier in the week while staying at the swan. swan didn't ask his age at the time of res, and i didn't think to tell them. If they ask at check in, of course we will pay the extra.

AKL was a special birthday treat for me for the last 2 days of the trip, doing blizzard beach, dtd and ak those days.

I too only get about $55 dif. but the before is $457 after is $531

If they want to take advantage of the special hours at the parks for resort guests he would have to be on the reservation. Everyone receives room keys with their name on it. No room key no wristband when you go to EMH.

The only time I've been asked for the kids ages is at the time of the reservation. I'd agree to keep him on there "as is" and then update him at check-in. Maybe there's some other tax or something involved in the rate that would bring your new quote up so high. Just look it over carefully when you receive it. In my opinion, if they say $25 per night, then it should be a flat fee and not subject to all that other tax stuff though.

In any case, enjoy your birthday celebration with your family. It sounds very special.

Is 18 years old actually Disney's official cut off age for adult age for resort guests? I was always under the impression that although not legally adult age, Disney considers 16 years old "adult" age. I believe that when my sister was 16, my wife & I took her along and had to pay the additional adult charge for her. Not sure though, I may be wrong.

No, there is no charge as an extra adult in the room until they are 18.

Single parents also have to pay based on two adults. Even if you have one child, that child is price based as an adult.

Not really. The room rate is the same for up to two adults. A single traveler pays the same hotel rate as a couple. The child isn't paying the adult price but you're paying a single supplement for your room rate. You still pay the child's price for your tickets and meal plan.

Take him off of the reservation. There is nothing easier than getting a new room key. I have gotton so many new room keys over the years I could paper a bathroom in plastic. ;) Keys do get "lost".

I totally feel your pain - our son is 19, still lives at home and our trips to WDW are exactly the same people as before he turned 18, but now we have to pay more...I just don't get it!

No, they don't. If a room costs $77 per night plus tax, then that room costs $77 per night plus tax, whether 2 adults are in it or 1 adult and 1 child. If the child is age 3-9, they get a child ticket, and the adult would get an adult ticket....
