72 hours until banked points can be used?

I am pretty new to banking, and I just wanted to check this out with the DVC experts! I just called MS to bank points into my 2007 UY. I wanted to make a reservation at the same time...using the banked points. The rep told me I would have to wait 72 hours until the paperwork for banking was processed? Does this sound right?

Thanks,
Sammy

Didn't you get a banking confirmation number? I've banked and booked at the same time in the past. Unless MS is having some computer glitches today?

No, didn't get anything.....just a comment that I'd have to call back in 72 hours to make any reservations. Hmmmm....looks like I'll be making another phone call immediately!

Thanks!
Sammy

Ok, just got off the phone with MS again. The rep I spoke to this time had never heard of the 72 hour wait time either. He put me on hold and checked with someone else. Lo and behold, apparently this banking request has to be done manually because it involves transferred points. I'm told this process occurs "behind the scenes" via a paper request form, and doesn't involve the MS reps themselves. So I have to check back with MS in 72 hours to make sure the points have indeed been banked, and can make a reservation at that time. Until that time, there is no banking confirmation number either (doesn't get generated until the points are actually banked).

I have never heard of this before...I guess I learned something new today!

Transferred points now that is a whole diferent ballgame.

They are attempting to make sure you are not morphing those points and that they retain the intended home resort.

EDit: I belive this is a good move by DVC to crack down on THESE abuses. Morphing of points is unfair to all members, especally owners at the small resorts like VWL and BCV.

I hadn't heard of this for transferred points (I've never transferred), but it does make sense to have a paper trail for transferred point documentation. At least until the computers are updated (if that is even a viable option economically) to track the home resort and use of transferred points. Good luck with your reservation :)

Heard the same thing this week. I rented some BW points and they have been transferred into my account, but I need to bank them for F & W. The MS CM told me it could take up to 3 days, and then I could make the reservations I wanted. This is DH's wish for Christmas, so I'm pretty happy. I had called MS to ask about banking the transferred points and retaining the original resort prior to the transfer to be sure it could be done.

That happened to me one time when a friend transferred points to me, about 3 years ago. I think it was only 24 hours. I called the next morning and they were in.

My gripe was my use year was April, the transferred points were August. The stay was April. If they retained the use year of the other owner, they should not have needed to be banked (they should have been current year points). I was concerned because we made a BWV standard view res at 7 months. Luckily we got it the next day.

If this is actually to stop the morphing of points, that is great news indeed! :thumbsup2

My points are in after only 24 hours. I will call tomorrow to grab that Boardwalk view studio for F & W!

"morphing" is when you transfer in near expiring points from OKW into your BWV account and they "morph" (either during the original transaction, or in a subsequent banking transaction) into new and shiny BWV points with the new contracts use year that can now be used to book a standard view at eleven months during Food and Wine. Its sort of like "point laundering."

(Note the careful exclusion of certain resorts in this example).

I think it's always been this way for transferred points, no real change that I can see.

That is my recollection as well. However, I thought it was only 24 hours - MS must be busy since they are now saying 72 hours.

They do seem to be variable but I'm pretty sure they've said 3 days the most often. I think most are done in 24 hours unless it's a weekend.
