SO, we are booked for 7 nights the last week in August. I know the heat and humidity will be extreme for us, coming from Michigan. I've been in June, July and August before....as well as March, April and October & November. To say I'm not worried would be a lie. During our last visit this past Oct/Nov we had the pleasure of being there during some record breaking temps and were able to manage, though DH was quite miserable sometimes and even I had a day in which my asthma was acting up and I just could not PARK anymore...so we spent a decent chunk of downtime at the resort. Even the pools were sickeningly hot. We did have a great time though, overall. So...with all that being said, I'm torn on what to do as far as keeping my reservation. This is the only time to take the kids, apart from Christmas Break or Spring Break next year. Thoughts??

I don't want to feel miserable and pay thousands of dollars for it. But at the same time...I really want to get back HOME and take the kids to Disney!

Only you know how you and your family do in heat. We go every year that week and we are not heat people. We go to rope drop, we make sure we have good touring plans with forced AC breaks like at the shows etc, we do a lunch ADR in the park. We go back at night after the storms for a little bit. We are stuck in a traditional school calendar and its either that or Christmas or Easter break. We choose the heat over the crowds. I think the biggest thing we do is we accept that we can't get as much done as we could in the cooler weather and adjust for that. Good luck deciding! :)

Really, the "brag about your resort" threads belong on the resort board (although it seems a lot of threads on the attractions and strategies board are specifically started to brag about the resort the first poster is staying at....)

I've noticed it a lot, people think up questions/topics just to get a mention of their resort in even though it's usually irrelevant to the question

I don't find it irrelevant here. The time spent at the resort factors into a question like this.

Why does it bother you that people mention where they are staying? It is a Disney vacation planning board. Is there something that makes it a sensitive subject for you?

Not jealous at all but it just seems completely unnecessary if it's completely irrelevant to the question (which it usually is)

It is definitely going to be very hot but I think others have given good tips. Keep hydrated, take breaks, spend time in AC, take your time.

I don't think it's irrelevant at all. Maybe the op is looking for feedback from people who frequent the Poly who can recommend certain places or areas around the pool (as an example) that are more shady.

Is MK your favorite park? If so it will be easy to split your days and go back to the resort during the most oppressive part of the day.
If you enjoy Epcot more consider staying at the Yacht Club with it's gorgeous pool and easy access to Epcot...

We go the end of August. Yes, it's sweltering. We stay for 10 nights and go every year, so don't have to go commando. We usually don't even head to the parks until the afternoon, after lunch. We spend time at the pool, have lunch and then go to the parks around 3pm. Do some rides, have a nice cool sit down dinner and do rides after dinner. Use our cooling towels when we leave and get free ice water at the CS at the parks. Works for us.

Ok, I didn't even read the first post in this case. But in MOST cases when people specifically mention the resort in the first post it's completely irrelevant to the question and seems like they just wanted to mention it

Should I get mad of people who are flying in when my family is driving? saying they are bragging because they have the luxury of flying? She doesn't own the Poly, she's just staying there.

You attacked someone for what they posted without reading it? Honestly, you have no idea why people mention their resort and there is no reason for it to bother you unless you have some kind of sensitivity to where other people stay. If that is the case, I think the best advice is for you not to read those threads. There is no reason for you to upset yourself. It's just not worth it.

OP-I'm sorry your thread went off track. Have a great trip.

Think the main reason she mentioned staying at the Poly, is because she was saying she doesn't want to spend a lot on a vacation (and we know how expensive the Poly is), if her family is going
to be miserable. Yes, I understand what she is saying, spending a lot on a vacation that may not be enjoyable would not be a good idea.

We were there for a week last August and the weather was surprisingly cooler than normal and it rained. Of course that's not what I'd expect when going in August, but you never know. The nice thing about August is you will get rain and sometimes that clears out the park. Is go early and come back to the poly to spend the hottest part of the day. IMO you can brag all you want on where you are staying!! Poly is the best and I'm guessing you probably got "the deal" since your staying there in late august, right???? We are staying at the poly in November and I'm so excited I could bust!!! Enjoy your trip!
