Yay! I had my email question read and answered on this weeks show!

My Question was:
If you had 7 nights at 7 different restaurants for 7 of the best dinning experiences at the World - what would they be?

Thanks podcast team for all your answers! – lots to think about and its a great help with our planning!

Not to sure if we are into character dinning/shows but keen to try the best food in unique surroundings that Disney has to offer. Were booked on the regular dinning plan but may need to look at the deluxe to goto all those signature restaurants.

Love to hear what everyone else on the boards here would rate as there top 7!

When I heard the question read on the podcast, my first thought was, "Was this guest on the Disney Dining Plan or not?" I think it makes a difference between recommending 1 credit restaurants vs. 2 credit signature restaurants. Kevin named all signature restaurants because for the most part, they are usually better than 1 credit places (with a few exceptions).

You never mentioned if you had kids in your party, and whether character meals were a priority. That makes a huge difference in recommendations. I agree with the restaurants Kevin liked, but I can add a few places I like for 1 table service credit.

Kona Cafe
Via Napoli
50's Prime Time (it's comfort food, and I thought the fried chicken was a winner)
Sanaa

There are other restaurants I like, but this is a rough sample of non-signature restaurants.

Mine would be-

Hollywood brown derby
Chefs de france
Boma- breakfast
Prime time
Crystal palace
Coral reef
Jiko

But I've never eaten at the yachtsman, narcoses, or California grill so maybe they are better. I want to try them, especially California grill, but my husband and I hate sushi so I don't know if it would be worth the price for us.

If I was using Dining Plan credits and wanted to choose mainly 1 credit restaurants, I'd go with the following (mix of good food and theming/"experience" dining, also trying to pick a mix of theme park/resort dining):

Teppan Edo, Japan pavilion, EPCOT
Le Chefs de France, France pavilion, EPCOT
Via Napoli, Italy pavilion, EPCOT
Kouzzina, Downtown Disney
Liberty Tree Tavern (lunch), Magic Kingdom
Raglan Road, Downtown Disney
Sanaa, Animal Kingdom Lodge

If you want to splurge on a 2 credit meal, I like Narcoossee's or Yachtsman Steakhouse.

I've been thinking about my seven and would go with....

Brown Derby
Yachtsman
Le Chefs de France
O'Hana
Narcoosse's
1900 Park Fare
Mickey's Backyard BBQ (because I've never done it and always wanted to)

Let's see my favorite places are...

Beaches and Cream - Beach Club
Pepper Market - Coronado Springs
Sunshine Seasons - The Land
Earl of Sandwich - DTD
Wolfgang Puck Express - DTD

Our family typically does quick service as the younger ones have zero patience to sit for long sit down meals, but these are our favorites for when we visit the World. May not be the signature dining dinners you are looking for, but might be nice to try for a lunch.

My favorites are:

Table Service:
Narcooses
Brown Derby
Boma - breakfast buffet

Counter Service:
Sunshine Seasons
Fish n Chips in Epcot UK

Evening Entertainment/Bar:
Jellyrolls at Boardwalk
Drinks at the Tune-in Lounge

This is coming from a non-married (yet) woman with no children. Have fun choosing :)

Here are some of my favorite 1 credit table services:

Chefs de France
Kona Cafe
O'Hana's
Yak & Yeti
Tepan Edo
Tokyo Dining
Wolfgang Puck
Kuzzina
Cape May Cafe

Favorite quick services are:

Columbia Harbor House
Sunshine Seasons
Lotus Blossom
Fish & Chips (World Showcase)
Yak & Yeti
Flame Tree BBQ
ABC Commissary

Ignoring the dining plan, here are my 7 "essential" restaurants that everyone should try at least once:

  1. California Grill
  2. Brown Derby
  3. Cinderella's Royal Table (I know, I know, but it's in the castle)
  4. Narcoossee's
  5. Ohana
  6. Jiko
  7. Bistro de Paris

A couple of others to consider:
  • Victoria & Alberts (if budget is no issue)
  • Via Napoli
  • Sci-Fi Dine In Theatre (for the atmosphere, not the food)
  • Boma (best buffet on property IMO)
  • Cape May Cafe (another good buffet)
  • Kona (for breakfast)
  • Yachtman (better than Le Cellier and easier to get into)

Has Kevin ever done Boma for breakfast? I know he hated it in his last review and I think he said he's never done breakfast there. It's one of my very favorites and I'd be curious to hear what he thought. I've never done dinner there so I can't speak to that.

If money and calories were no object:

1. V&A Chef's table
2. Flying Fish
3. California Grill
4. Bistro de Paris
5. Sanaa
6. Jiko
7. Boma for dinner

Mine have to be:

Hollywood Brown Derby
50's Prime Time Cafe
Kona Cafe (breakfast)
O'Hana (breakfast)
Le Cellier
Crystal Palace
California Grill

This thread is making me hungry.
Lots of good suggestions.

Kevin doesn't hate Boma.

He is ambivalent about Boma.

There are some good things available, but he doesn't find enough to justify the cost.

He likes Jiko (and now The Mara) much better.

He has never been to Boma for breakfast.

Kevin doesn't hate Boma.
Are you certain? Perhaps you should allow Kevin to speak for himself. That's what Kaligal said, anyway.

I went to Chefs de France because my friend wanted to go. She'd heard Kevin sing its praises. "Noooo..." I protested. "I don't like French food. I don't like cheese. I don't care what Kevin said; I'm not going to like it and I don't want to go."

But I always give in. And we went. And it was good. It was really, really good. They gave me like an entire cow on my plate...but it was yummy.

I still refuse to go to places like California Grill and Narcoossee's (forgive me any spelling error there) because I'm sure they are far too frou-frou for me and I'd hate them. I actually ordered from the child's menu at Brown Derby because there was nothing I wanted.

But Kevin was right and I was wrong.

And that is that.

If he ever shows up around here, I might tell him.

You absolutely have to try them. I think they both have menus that will appeal to many different palates, even the most traditional. And both have very relaxed, comfortable atmospheres.

You probably want to skip Victoria & Alberts though... ;)

LOL, I don't know. I'm not very frou-frou. Much more at home in Hoop Dee Doo than Victoria & Alberts.

I also don't find those kind of places romantic. To me - for me, personally - romance has to be spontaneous. Can't manufacture it in a "fancy" place or whatever. The pressure to suddenly feel extremely amorous completely precludes any actual romantic feelings and the whole thing is not only an exercise in futility, but a chore I'm happy to be done with when it is over and I can stop being an Inadequate Romantic-Love Failure. I realize that is different for everyone.

I'll give it some thought, though!!

You have one of my all-time favorite usernames. Very funny. :)

Given we are talking in the third person now...

Matt's list is suspiciously similar to Kevin's List - Matt has not yet been to Yachtsman's, but Matt very much enjoys Victoria and Albert's.

In no particular order:

  • Victoria and Albert's
  • Citricos
  • Narcoosees
  • Hollywood Brown Derby
  • Jiko
  • Bistro de Paris
  • Chefs de France

Matt thinks that some of the restaurants on the list rate with some of his favourite places to eat in the actual world.

Ok, this third person thing is too hard.

I think that one of the things I love about Disney World is the variety of great dining experiences - I think in part thats what makes it an excellent grown up vacation.

That said - I have had tons of fun sitting with friends sharing eclairs at the Pastry Shop in France, and nibbling on chips with hummus in Morocco - so sometimes the experience is about more than the restaurant, but rather making time to stop and enjoy the company of others.
