We (daughter and I) returned this past Sunday. We were at WDW from 8/3 to 8/10 on the Fairy Tale Package, staying at the Boardwalk Villas.
We generally go to WDW in August, but usually mid to late month. During the mid-to-late August time frame, I found crowds to be extremely manageable. For early, August, I thought the parks more crowded than to what I am accustomed, but crowd levels seemed to taper off as the week progressed.
Anyway, we visited all four parks, and only one of the water parks (Blizzard Beach). The two times we attempted to get to Typhoon Lagoon, the park was closed due to reaching capacity levels. Our attempts to return later in the afternoon were disrupted by rain.
We used early entry, or whatever it is now being called, just twice: for MGM and Magic Kingdom (on Sunday). We were at Animal Kingdom around 8:15 for early entry on Monday, but the two lines for resort guests were extremely long. So we left and decided to try Animal Kingdom another day.
There were two enights the week we were there (Tues and Fri); we attended both, but left the Tuesday enight about 45 minutes after arriving. It was just too crowded for my taste--Magic Kingdom closed at 11:00 that evening. The Friday evening enight was more more manageable.
One thing I really like about multiday tickets such as an Annual Pass or UHP is the flexibility to pop into a park a ride or two and then leave. We did this a lot at EPCOT. In addition to seeing/riding our favorites at EPCOT, we also rode on Misison Space. We really enjoyed the ride, as well as the interactive area. One of the CMs asked what I thought of the ride, and I said I enjoyed, but it would have been even better had there been a pre-ride area, where you could do astronaut-type training.
In short, we had a great time, and will keep our August time slot, but later in the month instead of earlier.
