I will make an 11 mos. ressie and have to borrow 7pts. At 7 mos., I want to change my resort, which will require that I borrow even more points. How does it work with cancelling an 11 mos. ressie with borrowed points and re-booking at 7 mos. borrowing more? Or should I not ressie at 11 mos. and take my chances at 7 mos.? Sorry to sound so confusing!

I hope someone answers you.. I am thinking here, I read that, I am a newbie at DVC....was she speaking in another language, I did not understand at all.. :lmao:

The 11 month reservation will only be a back up. You will have to cancel it if you book the other resort at 7 months. The 11th month points go back into the pot when you cancel it. You use them first for the new reservation and borrow a few more for the new reservation. Make sure that the 7th month resort is available before you cancel. Talk to the MS Advisor about what you want to do. There have been reports of members canceling one reservation and not getting the other.

I just didn't know how it would work with the 7 borrowed pts. The rest will go back into my current UY, and I think the 7 borrowed have to also stay in the current UY, can't send them back. Also, I would need to cancel first because I don't want to borrow for the whole 7 mos. ressie. I would ressie all days at once at 7 mos, so I would know then. Wanted to make sure they cancel first, not borrow for the 7 mos. ressie.

Once borrowed, the points must be used or they are lost. You can't bank or return them. When you book at 7 make sure that MS uses the borrowed points first. They say that it's automatic but I have had mistakes made so double check. When you check on the 7 month availability see how many are available. If there are several, you should be safe. If there is only one, be very careful. Good Luck.

I think that you will be fine. I would definitely advise having a backup reservation at 11 months so you KNOW that you will have a place to sleep and can start making other reservations such as airfare and car rental, etc.

Since you are planning to use ALL the points from the canceled reservation and then some more, you won't have to run into the left over borrowed points problem.

Good luck planning.

MS will not borrow points unless you are making a reservation that will use them.

Go ahead and make your reservation at 11 months. If there isn't availability at 7 months, you will still have a place to stay.

Since you will need to borrow more points for the 7 month reservation, there will not be a problem (assuming there is availability for what you want).

Good luck!
