Has anybody here done it? I can live with the sacrifice of what I can't ride (missing Splash Mountain will be hard), but I'm wondering if its possible physically. I have history of lots of Braxton Hicks but no true preterm labor. I realize I will have to hang up my commando park touring hat - that will be hard as I usually lead. But, I hate to cancel thinking we could have a laid back Disney vacation of just taking it all in instead of trying to do it all. Any feedback please!!!!!!!! Am I crazy to even consider this? We will be going in Nov - weather shouldn't be a problem.

Hi there,

Yup, I've done Disney twice while pregnant! First time I was 5.5 months and again when I was 32 weeks pregnant. I was fine both times. Make sure you drink lots of water and rest when you can. I can honestly say apart from not being able to ride all the attractions it was just the same as going at any other time. Have a great time.

I was 7 months pregnant when we went last October. The whole trip took my mind off the lingering morning sickness. I loved the whole trip, and I don't remember an unpleasant moment. One benefit was that if the cars were small, like in the Winnie-the-Pooh ride, I asked if I could ride by myself in my seat due to my size. I only had one person be a little displeased, but otherwise, everyone was more than happy to accommodate me.

My wife and I went to WDW last December when she was 71/2 months pregnant. We had a great time. BUT, whenever possible we rented one of those little electric vehicles, or I pushed her in a wheelchair. It was just too hot, and she couldn't walk that far. So, keep that in mind. You don't want to miscarry because of excessive activity.

I went at 7 months pregnant in late August 2000. My DH and I viewed it as the last trip with just the two of us. We enjoyed many sit-down air-conditioned restaurants. We took our time and enjoyed just relaxing. Drink lots of water and take time out to enjoy the pool. That felt the best to me! Just floating around with my big belly! Relax and enjoy!

You also might want to check with your insurance about coverage if you did go into labor that far away from home. Also, I brought along a copy of my medical file, just in case.

Hi

I have been to WDW twice while pregnant--once at 7 months and once at 8 months, both times in June. I have to say it really was not bad at all! The walking kept swelling at bay, and I did not miss the rides I had to sit out on. (at least not too much! :) ) Drink a lot of water and enjoy the big fat ice cream bars! I did ride Splash Mountain both pregnancies--did get the ok from the MD, but also my logic was that with no lap bar, and I had just travelled by air at faster speeds that it would not be that big of a deal (no preterm labor hx or anything though) and it was fun! (and the spray of water felt good on my big ol' pregnant self in june!) Only one time I rode did a CM say "are you sure you want to ride?" but that's it. Above all--enjoy your trip and make a note of all the things you want to do with your baby when you come back with him/her!! I'm gong back in June again and bringing both kiddos ( age 2 1/2 and 8 months) and can't wait!!

HTH

Oh, also wanted to add that I agree that it is a good idea to bring a copy of your medical info-- namely your doc's name and number, insurance card, allergies, meds you are on, etc. One copy for your husband's wallet too!!

Crazy Old Maurice, I was waiting (or hoping) someone would say they had ridden Splash Mountain while expecting. It was definitely the "calmest" of the thrill rides. Guess I'll wait and see how I feel at the time and how big I am. Were you able to ride with other people on the other rides. I will have hubby and my other 3 kids with me. I don't want to be forever turning around and waving to the fam as a solo rider. We took our 2 oldest kids when they were 6 and 3, and we had the best vacation. I was really looking forward to watching my youngest discover the magic! Tell me what you know.

Hi!
Actually I think that 7 months is a pretty good time to be there--you are over the morning sickness (most people, anyway!) and not so pregnant that you're doing the uncomfortable waddle yet. I guess it depends on the person and how you feel, but being pregnant really didn't hamper anything with the exception of missing the roller coasters, test track, TOT,--I think that's it. And I'd be lying if I said I didn't look longingly at those big ol' fat beers in Germany! :) But that will be my treat this year! Really it's no big deal. Sit if you're tired. Eat, drink and be merry. The peoplemover rules for a break or something to do while the others are riding space mountain. Sometimes I would wait in line to keep the others company and you can go out what I call "the escape hatch"--I think all the rides have one. On TOT I went throught the whole line with DH and said to the CM that I was just waiting and couldn't ride so (in character of course) the bellhop or elevator guy or whatever wouldn't talk to me (except for creepy twilight zone references), make chit chat or crack a smile at me, just led me to a back elevator and I found myself at the exit where the pictures are!! Just wanted you to know becuase sometimes you don't want to sit on a bench by yourself or maybe you want to talk with your family or whatever, you know? HTH. If you have any other questions, I will try to help! Jen

You know, I just realized I didn't even answer your question. No, I did not have to ride by myself because of size--there's plenty or room. I think it would just be a question of comfort for you. (hee hee was just thinking of a giant shoehorn and a CM like wedging me into a flying boat or a honeypot. lol!)

Crazy Old Maurice, Your input is making me feel better. I'm not typically a self conscious person, but then I've never gone to a park with a basketball in my belly either. I don't want people giving me the "Are you nuts?" look. I've always been the big organizer of we have to go there first then here next..... My husband is just the opposite. He sees vacation as definite R & R, so the slower pace we are planning suits him just fine. I just want to make sure my kids (especially the older 2) get to do the coolest things. I don't want to be the one that holds the crew back. I was thinking I could make some use of wait time by getting the next set of fast passes or taking my young daughter on the things that would be neat for her. I did wonder if they would allow me to go through some of the lines with the fam just to avoid sitting out on the bench. Also, some of the waiting areas are entertaining in themselves. If I think of anything else I will probably drop you a line:D

I am planning on being there when I will be 29 weeks pregnant and I was wondering if in order to rent a wheelchair they would ask for some medical documentation. I was just told by my doctor that I should not be walking as I tend to over do it- and end up in pain. My husband said he had no problem with pushing me around the parks if I need him to- but mostly we plan on taking it slow this time. Enjoy your trip- I plan on enjoying mine!!!

Hi.
I just wanted to answer the wheelchair question. You don't need any di=ocumentation to rent a wheelchair or ecv. Here's a link to the DIS page about mobility disabilities that tlaks about renting at the parks.
You can also rent a wheelchair or ecv from some outside companies. Here's a list of the ones that DIS posters have reported renting from:
Care Medical:

Walker Mobility:

RANDY'S Mobility is in Kissimmee 407-892-4777

Colonial Medical

Also, if you just need to lie down for a little while in a cool spot, the First Aid stations at each park are great.

uuuggghhh..... I must be a wimp, sorry to be the odd man out but... we went in one year when I was in my 7th month, not again! I felt like a small tug boat by the end of the day. I did enjoy the pool, small children used me as a flotation device. So that was fun (i think).
Sorry, dont let me rain on your parade but drink lots and lots of water, which really feels good on that already over-exercised bladder.
Just kidding!!
Have fun! :bounce:

I admire all you brave pregant women! I'm 7 months pregnant now and I know I'd be MISERABLE even if I was in WDW! I am already waddling, my ankles swell in the heat and humidity and I have gestational diabetes so I wouldn't be able to indulge in my favorite Disney treats.

I was in WDW while pregnant, but I was only 2 months pregnant at the time. That was rough too because of morning sickness.

More power to the women who are braving the heat, crowds and their baby bellies for WDW!!!!!!!!!! Have a great time!!!!!!!!! Be healthy and drink lots of water, too!
