hi, I'm trying to organise my first DVC stay after my points purchase. We'll be staying 10 nights in October 2012 and i already booked those nights at my home resort BWV. The stay nicely used all my banked and current points. However, I would like to spend only 5 nights in BWV and spend the other 5 nights in BLT. So here's my question. How do I book this when my 7 month window opens, without borrowing any points?

If I first book 5 nights in BLT, will the system then automatically borrow points of the next year? If so, I can't transfer them back to 2013, can I?

Or do I need to first give up my 5 nights in BWV? But then I'm afraid that if BLT is waitlisted, I'll end up neither having BWV or BLT.

Also, I booked those 10 nights as one reservation. Should i have booked them as two?

thanks for your advice. this whole thing is more complicated than i thought :-)

call MS and find out if BLT has availability. if yes, cancel BWV and book BLT...if no, waitlist BLT.

it's no big deal. you would have to cancel BWV before you can book BLT but that's how it's usually done.

Call Member Service 7 months to the date that you want to book BLT. If they have 5 nights available, you can make that reservation and they will simply take the differnce in points from your 2013 UY. Same is true if you waitlist. They will not take the points needed for BLT and then give back your BWV points, they will simply take the deifference.

Once you borrow / bank points, you can not do anything with them again (borrow, bank or transfer). They need to be used in that UY they were moved to at that point, but that should not be an issue for your scenario.

Lastly, you may want to try to find out what availabilty looks like at BLT BEFORE calling. If the first 5 nights of your vacation are available at BLT and you were orginally thinking of doing the last 5 nights, it may change your mind. BLT is not easy to get into, but for October you should have a good shot.

thanks everyone; i understand that via calling MS this shouldn't be an issue, but i'm guessing i wouldn't be able to do this online ? unless I cancel BWV first, taking the very real risk that i can't get that booking back if BLT is full as well?

Yes, to do it online, you would have to cancel first but in your case, since you only want to switch 5 of your 10 nights, even that won't work since they currently don't have an option to cancel part of a reservation, only all of it.

So, you will have to call MS. But, if you were ever in a situation where you want to change, you would check the availability first, cancel, and then quickly re-book.

I am hoping that somewhere down the line, they will set online booking up that allows for you to choose the new room and then give you the option to replace an existing reservation or dates with the new room. This way, switches can be done at 7 months without having to do the cancel/re-book method included now.

have you booked all 10 nights as one reservation?
generally we will go three weeks in July and bookit at eleven months
however if we are unsure as to where we want to stay each week we will book three seperate weeks and link them .that way we can change any week to a new resort without cancelling the whole booking :surfweb:Patrick

MS can cancel days off a reservation and does not need to cancel an entire reservation so having it all booked as one does not make a difference if you are calling in. If you wanted to change days in the middle part of a trip then either the first part or end part would have to be cancelled and try to rebook but if it's just the start or finish of a trip it's not a problem.

and if you book the weeks separately you don't have to cancel beginning or end

thanks everyone!!!
I guess i'll need to do it via member services then; it's not really such an issue since worst case, i'll be staying 10 nights in BWV, which is still something to celebrate :-)
