Hello,

A quick question when booking a resort at the 7 months window when you already have a home resort booked do you have to cancel the home resort before the new resort or will it cancel as you book the new one? We have only ever stay at our home resort.
Thanks for your help with this.

The two reservations are independent. Booking one won't cancel the other. If you need the points from the first one in order to book the second, then you need to cancel first. I wrote up a process to hold one while you cancel the other; let me see if I can dig it up.

Edited to add more information:

Using two devices or two different browsers (NOT two instances of the same browser), you can start the process of booking your new reservation.
Get to the point where it says the reservation is held for 20 minutes. There will be an option to borrow points on this screen. Don't click it yet.
Now, on a second device or different browser, cancel the current reservation.
DON'T DO ANYTHING ELSE. Don't search for availability or anything else, just cancel the reservation. A search will invalidate the session on your other device.
Go back to the computer and select the "Borrow points" option. Then click cancel on the screen that pops up. That action will refresh your point balance with those released from your cancelled reservation.
Now you can complete your new reservation with the points from your previous, cancelled reservation

Is this the standard process everyone has to go through when switching over at the 7 month window?

To be able to use points from the 11 month reservation for the 7 month reservation, the only way to do it is to cancel one reservation and then make the other; that is true even if you call to do it. You don't have to do what supersnoop suggests, in that you could just cancel and then go and start making the new reservation, but he came up with a perfect solution for doing away with any risk of losing both reservations in between the time you cancel one and make the other -- and that risk of losing both reservations can be a very serious risk when trying to make changes for DVC high demand times like Oct through December without using supersnoop's procedure. Supersnoop's procedure works only if you would have to borrow points for the new reservation if you were still keeping the first, but if you actually need the points from the first reservation to make the 7 month reservation, one would assume you would have to borrow if you did not cancel the original reservation first.

Is there a lot of switching at 7 months? And that would also mean the canceled reservation is immediately available for someone else to book?
