7 month booking advantage

I only have points (150) at VWL but have a question about when someone has points at multiple resorts. I understand that if I also had 150 at VGF I wouldn't be able to book 300 points at just one of them 10 months out without borrowing. But could I begin the process of picking out a room at VGF 5 minutes before the 8am 7 month booking window arrives (which I can get into as I have a membership there) and then book the room using points from both VGF & VWL memberships as I'd have the room locked and then the 8am time arrives and it is now within the 7 month booking window? I understand people have problems booking VGF at 11 months now but that isn't the point. Just wondering if it gives an advantage with points not at the resort in question.

I don't think you would be able to lock any rooms up with out available points to do so regardless if it's 5 minutes prior to the 7 month window opening. I would assume you could start the process but that's about it.

I think what you are saying is you go in and set up to reserve VGF and, before 8 a.m., get to the page where you get the 20 minute hold and choose points, and then try to use both the VGF and VWL points at 8. I do not believe that will work. The system will still treat the ressie as one made before the 7 month window opens and allow you to use only VGF points, and if you do something like try to just reload the page at 8 a.m., you will get sent back to the beginning where you choose resorts and room.

There is something that might work but I have not tried it yet in your situation. You can only try it if you would need to borrow VGF points in the situation you describe to make the complete reservation if you cannot use the VWL points. In that case, you might attempt the following. Get to the page for the 20 minute hold shortly before 8. After 8, choose the VGF contracts and watch for the Borrow Points icon to light up near the bottom. Click on the borrow points icon. A screen will come up to confirm that you want to borrow points. Do not click to continue with borrowing but instead click Cancel. That will send you back to the choosing points page with the 20 minute hold and then see if you can now choose to use both your VGF and VWL points for the trip. As I said I have not tried that in your situation but the cancellation of borrowing has acted as an automatic refresher of points available in a different situation where you need to cancel one reservation first and then book a new one at 7 months out.

Yeah I can't try anything as I only have points at VWL. But I work in IT and deal with loopholes and such. Hopefully it doesn't as it would otherwise give excessive value to super small contracts at resorts as I imagine 7 months plus 5 minutes is a lot better than 7 months for some key booking times.

As I recall it will restrict the contracts available if you select the room and aren't in the 7 month window yet. I have a small AKV contract and wanted to book at 7 months but needed points for another resort. First 2 or 3 attempts I was still shy of 8 am and so only my AKV was an option then finally got it at the 8 am switchover to use some BWV points too.
