7 dwarves mine train vs big thunder mountain

Hi fellow Disney obsessed,

Just wanting opinions on which ride is better for thrill seekers. I've heard the dwarves one is quite tame? Is it worth doing big thunder at night?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

They are both worth riding, IMO, but neither are thrill rides. They are fun theme rides, though. Haven't been on Big Thunder at night, so no idea.

For sure Big Thunder is a rougher ride. I don't think either is a big thrill ride, certainly nothing like Expedition Everest, but of the two, I would say BTMRR is faster, more exciting ride than SDMT, and even more so at night. SDMT is absolutely worth riding though, not for the thrills, but for the wonderful theming, and for how smooth the ride is.

SDMT is more tame than BTMRR which is faster and more jerky. BTMRR is especially fun at night b/c you can't see where you are going per se and it seems faster.

BTMR is a longer and better coaster but SDMT is fun too.

Big Thunder is more 'intense' than 7DMT, but Big Thunder isn't really a thrill ride though.

My sisters and I LOVE BTMRR and it's definitely my favorite ride in MK! It always feels like we're about to be thrown from the carts! I don't always find the possibility of impending doom all that thrilling, but it really adds to the experience here.

7DMT was pretty underwhelming for us, especially after reading all of the hype, but I'd be happy to do it again (with FP+). I think Expedition Everest is boring though, so what do I know?

As others have said, neither is a thrill ride in the classic sense...as in neither goes upside down, has a straight down drop or hits 60mph. 7DMT is smoother for sure. It also has a break in the middle of the action where you go very slowly, so that gives it less of a thrill ride feel. The roller coaster parts are still fun, the banked turns are entertaining.

BTMRR is much rougher, and it's designed to be. A lot of quick up/down movements. It's also a longer ride than 7DMT (I haven't timed it, but it feels that way). No major hills, just lots of whipping around. Fun for sure. At night, it's really fun. It's also very loud.

I love both! But BTMR at night is awesome! We rode it during Wishes one time and loved it

I love both but I'm not a super roller coaster fan. This last trip we rode BTMRR at night and it was such a fun experience!

And come to think of it, if you do BTMRR at night... since it's right next door, ride Splash Mountain if you can swing it. The outside parts are really neat at night, especially the 3 seconds of view you get as you crest the last hill before you actually drop. The view of everything lit up is awesome! If you can time it right, get on while Wishes is going on. My wife and did that and fireworks were the backdrop for our big splash down, it was amazing!

7DMT is very tame. As everyone else said BTMRR isn't exactly a thrill ride either, but I really enjoy it. We also rode during Wishes on our last trip and it was one of my favorite parts of the whole trip.

I agree with just about everyone here. Neither are "thrill rides", but SD is much tamer. But you don't ride coasters at Disney for the thrills. You ride them for the fun of the theme. Even RNRC is fairly tame by most amusement park standards these days.

We rode BTMR at night several times on our last trip, including a few times during the fireworks and it was fantastic, seeing the fireworks from the ride was very cool.

Neither are thrill rides imho. But of the two, btmr is more intense. 7dmt is a great first coaster for introducing someone to roller coasters.

7DMT is very nicely themed but it's boring. It's better at night. BTMRR is fun, but it's fantastic at night!

Both are fun and have great theme throughout. Love riding both at night!

One word of caution, or perhaps just notice, If you have MM and wish to get the best footage, you should ride 7D during the day.

Perhaps this has changed, but we rode it during the day and the night, and the day video was much better.

I don't think we've yet done 7D during Wishes, but we have many BTMRR and Splash Wishes rides under our belts. While fun, it is an imperfect view of Wishes. At best, you only see a portion of the show, with limited audio.

In other words, I recommend seeing Wishes from a better viewing spot FIRST.
