7 day east or west?

What are the opinions out there regarding which is nicer (better beaches, shopping, in particular)? I have the eastern booked, but just noticed that the western stops at 4 ports rather than 3, and I have read some unfavorable posts regarding St. Maarten. However, my uninformed impression of Cancun and Cozumel are that they are somewhat more commercial than St. Thomas and St. Maarten (I'm not really into glitz and commercialism). Which would you suggest?

I my opninon there both great. The snorkling and scuba on the western cruise and the beaches eastern cruise. For which has the best shopping it would depend on what your looking for. For jewlery i would recommend the Eastern.I felt like i was getting a better deal then on the western cruise. I hope this helps.

We just got back from the WESTERN. We did the EASTERN last year. I would vote
WESTERN.

Swimming with the Stingrays in Grand Cayman is a "MUST DO" !!

Shopping in COZUMEL is a lot of fun. Bargaining is great !! We also totally enjoyed Mr. Sanchos Beach Club. It is one of the only FREE beaches. They have FREE admission, FREE beach chairs and they will bring you drinks and food. Reasonably priced. WE LOVED IT !!
