7 Day Cruise/ 1 Carry On PP

Oooh good idea...that tote is bigger than my current tote but smaller than my weekender, so it would work well. I think it has a zipper, right? As for purses, I have a flat Coach crossbody bad that I can use everyday that's small, but big enough to fit my iPad.
Yep. It can take a pretty good beating too. My husband and i use it for travel a lot.

we do this all the time. for ladies, here's what I do: travel size bottles of whatever, no hairdryer (use the ships), wear biggest shoes/boots, then take 1 pair of black flats, 1 pair flipflops, 1 pair sneakers, 1 dark skirt or thin dress with 2 scarves, 1 extra pair of dark pants/capris, 2 sweater sets, plus wear one, lightweight waterproof (or repellent) jacket (windbreak-wear on plane), medications, minimal makeup, swimsuit, underW. Rewear dark bottoms. In spring, you'll not get very sweaty, so can rewear sweater sets. you can throw in a few extra tank tops, to switch around. Above fits into carry on. For DD (teen) shirts, tanks, 1 hoodie, jacket/raincoat (wear), jeans, 1 skirt, leggings, yoga pants.
DS- wear jeans on plane, take 1 extra jeans, 1 khakis, 1 shorts, 1 colored dress shirt, 2 polos, rest tee shirts. I pair low rise hikers (which can double as dressier shoes) and tennis shoes. Same for DH, except he doesn't take jeans and takes mostly polos.
Key is to limit everyone's shoes (I wore flats and not heels to dinner), take darker bottoms which can be reworn, and for you, wear a dark skirt/black dress mulitple nights with different scarves, etc. to make a new look.
If you have a cruise that has washers, use them for 2 loads midweek and cut down even more. I would much rather throw a load in the wash and be able to cut my luggage by 1/3 or more.

I did a 7-night Great Alaskan Running Cruise with a day before in Anchorage and a day after in Vancouver and 2 days after in Seattle with only a carryon. And that was at LEAST 2 outfits for run days - usually 3 (the running gear, clothes for after the race, and clothes for dinner). Granted I did mix and match and repeat some things - particularly dinner as that was not on more than an hour. Lush bar shampoo and conditioner is really what made it possible as there was no way I was using the generic all-in-one crud they provide on RCCL.

For perspective - a US dollar bill is 6" across. So we're talking 2/3 that. It's like a laptop bag dimensions.

Glad you understand the rules now, but also, here's a tip: Read what they say about medical supplies/devices. I saved SO MUCH room when I took out all of our eye glasses, contact solutions, cases, sunblock, medicines, supplements, vitamins, bandaids, OTC (advil, tylenol) anything, even my makeup with sunscreen (I have a lot of issues w/sun allergies). I placed all this in its own small soft sided cooler (bc I needed an ice pack for some medicines). No one at the security points in the airports blinked an eye, and if you read the small print about medical supplies, it DOES NOT count towards ANY of your carry ons. I flew on Frontier (never again) and our family of five each had one carry on (under the seat in front of you), but you are also allowed to hold a coat or pillow or blanket (or stuffed animal) and the medical bag DID NOT count as any of the above. It freed up so much room in our carry ons. Just a tip!

My method works best in warmer climates. Colder climates are harder because the shoes and clothing take up more space. I usually bring the following:
  • Shoes- a pair of flip flops, a pair of dress sandals and my running shoes.
  • PJs - large t-shirt
  • gym clothing - 2 t-shirts, gym shorts, sports bra and 2 pairs of socks
  • 4 sundresses that look nice with flip flops and dress sandals (these are daywear, "formal" wear and swim cover ups all in one)
  • 1 pair of jeans
  • 1 pair of shorts
  • 1 jacket
  • 1 wrap
  • 3 t shirts that match the jeans and shorts
  • 1 large makeup bag containing my makeup, toothbrush, travel size toothpaste, travel sunscreen and hair brush
  • a small aspirin bottle containing aspirin, bonine, tums and gas x (I throw them all in together)
  • a necklace or two
  • swimsuit
  • enough undies for the week and 2 bras
I also bring a purse containing 2 books, my wallet, my travel documents, sunglasses, phone, camera and snacks.

Like others have said, I make sure what I've packed can be mixed and matched and I have no qualms about re-wearing things. The worst case scenario is that you do a load of laundry or pay overpriced gift shop prices for extra toiletries.

GREAT TIP! I have a monogrammed medicine bag that I can use for my meds, motion sicknes, band aids, chapstick...etc that will saved lots of room in my tote.

Do nonUSA carriers have the same rules about medicines allowed as a separate bag, in addition to the other allowances? And is contact solution a medication/medical device? We pack 1/2 a carry on with 5 persons in glasses, contacts, meds, etc.

Oh, my goodness, of course glasses, contacts, solutions, etc are medical supplies! Inhalers, epipens, OTCs, bandaids; they are all medical supplies. I even put my supplements and vitamins in there, too, along with all our prescriptions. I don't know anything about nonUSA carriers, however, I had to read and re-read the fine print just to figure this out for domestic! I even put a frozen gel "ice" pack in it, and as I said TSA didn't even blink.

It's not TSA, it's the airline carry on rules. European carriers tend to be much tighter than US carriers. I did see that Easyjet allows meds as extra, but could not find anything about Norwegianair. OP is flying overseas.

and would LOVE to not have to check in luggage.

Why?

The airline I travel with allows ONE free checked bag and ONE free Carry On.

So, since you realized you can have "hand luggage" and a personal item, and the above says you get a checked bag, too, and you don't know HOW you're going to do this, WHY do you want to do this?

Unless you're going on a Rick Steves tour in Europe, where you *have to* go carryon only, I just don't see why you would want to do it.

A regular deodorant fits when in the flight size requirement

A regular solid deodorant fits no matter what, and doesn't have to be in the baggie. It's not a liquid, so it can be any size.

I've done a three month long trips (land, 2-week cruise & land) with just a carry-on bag and probably eight week long cruises with just a carry-on. Yes, on the month long cruises I'm doing laundry a few times but it's worth it.

.

Main reason is I don't want to wait at the luggage carousel anxiously waiting for my bag to come through and not worry about it being lost. ...I don't like having to waste time doing that. Secondly, easier to wheel a carry on through the airport (Lisbon and Miami are HUGE airports and even on some airports, you have to take trams to reach Baggage Claim...as you do in Atlanta for instance) I can go straight to the taxi line after getting off the plane and onto my destination quicker. Third, i wear maybe half of the clothes I normally bring, would be nice to just bring what I Know I'm going to wear instead "hmmm, maybe I"ll get a chance to wear this...and never do".
Keep all my belongings close to me on the plane is a nice feeling.
Easier to unpack a carry on, then a 27" bag
