Hi all.

I posted the following comment in a different thread asking about 7 day booking, but didn't receive any responses. It was with respect to booking 7 days and then calling MS every morning after to add another day to the reservation.

"Rather than calling MS every day, can you just add days online and then call MS once you have all of your days and ask them to combine the reservations?

I'm nervous about not having the extra two hours advantage of trying to snag a room online, rather than calling MS every morning. Am I missing something?"

All advice appreciated.

You can book the seven days online starting at 11 or 7 months out at 8 AM.
You can book each single day there after online.
Once you have all the reservation numbers for all the days you want to travel, you can either on the phone or through the web-site request feature, request that all of the reservations be combined into one reservation.

That's what I thought, but the other discussion talked about calling into MS every day, rather than booking online, which is what confused me.

Please help explain this procedure. So on the next day you can modify your reservation now and add another day? I've always had to call each day to add an additional day. So this info would be new.

No, you can NOT modify your reservation. You are creating a new reservation for the single day. Then calling or e-mailing MS to have the two reservations combined into one.

Don't you have to wait until the 11/7 month window opens to book that additional day if it's a separate reservation?

No you cannot modify the reservation online, you have to call MS to do that but the advantage to calling is that you can do that the day after you book your first 7 nights to add an additional night.

If you want to book an additional night yourself online, you are creating a new reservation and would have to wait a week to do so, until you are 7/11 months from that additional night you need. If your reservation is one that is hard to get, you risk losing the additional night to another member who gets through online faster than you do.

If your reservation is one that is not hard to get at 7/11 months out, then you will be fine waiting a week and booking online and then calling MS to merge that night in with your initial reservation.

As mentioned above, if you are booking a reservation that is hard to get, you are better off calling MS and modifying your existing reservation because you get a 6-day head start over booking the nights yourself online.

If you are adding more than one night to your 7-night reservation and you are booking 11 months out, you can wait up to 6 days (and add up to 6 nights on that call) without the risk of losing the additional nights to another member.

Thanks Lisa. Ok so it's the same way I've always done it. I thought there was something new

I really wish we could modify reservations online. It would make booking a 7+ night trip so much easier!

If you are adding more than one night to your 7-night reservation and you are booking 11 months out, you can wait up to 6 days (and add up to 6 nights on that call) without the risk of losing the additional nights to another member.

This is the point that I think deserves further explanation. If you are planning on staying for 9+ days, you don't have to call and extend your stay every day. If your room is booked for the full 7 days, then no one can get that room for the 8th night by extending their reservation (because, by extending, another person is extending the room he/she already has, which, by definition, isn't the room you have). The only way to get that room on the 8th night is through a new booking, which won't be available until 11 months prior to that date.

As a result, as long as you aren't staying for 14 days or more (i.e. the day when day 8 of your stay is now within the 11-month mark), you can wait until you can extend the trip to cover the entire planned stay without worrying about someone else taking the room.

Hope that saves some people a few calls!

This applies only to booking at 11 months. It does not apply to 7 months for the room being blocked out because someone with the home resort priority could have already reserved ahead of you - or might reserve just prior to the 7 month booking window starting.

Although unless it's something really scarce most will be able to wait until they could book all the dates online.

It's not as tough during the 11 month window, but during the 7 month window availability changes quickly. I assume I can book online for 7 nights and the next day if still available, but now 8 nights I could book that and cancel the first one. Yes I have the points available to do that too, and could keep doing that as long as it continues to be available, esp the first few nights

Thanks for the information. I incorrectly assumed I could just modify my reservation online to add another night every morning.

Yes, there is a difference when speaking of the 11 month and 7 month window. As long as the nights are available at 7 months though you can do the same thing as 11 months but the issue that can come up is some of the nights having been completely booked up in the home resort priority. The theory still applies though that if you've gotten the room booked for 7 nights right at the 7 month window then no other person trying to book at 7 months can jump in front so you shouldn't lose out based on having to call in. But an owner at the resort you are booking at would be able to jump into the room so to speak. I'd guess it's rare but it could happen.
