7/9/11 - Summer Magic in the Med

spent some time yesterday looking up tour/excursion options for La Spezia and Villefranche. what do you think is the best way to get to Florence from the port? I emailed one tour company for quote and it was over 1200 Euros for the four of us for the day! yikes! that's a private car from port to Florence...sounds wonderful but too expensive unfortunately :(

We're doing Florence on our own with Disney. We did it for Berlin on our Baltic cruise and it and it worked out great. I think it is $89 per person for the round trip bus fare.

We're doing the pre-cruise in Barcelona...so we leave in 50 days!!!!!

I too have started some packing and gathering of "can't do without" items. Bought new luggage (@MagicCanuc - we got a great deal at the Cookstown Outlet Mall) and DD's Princess ensemble. Other than that, I promised myself not to start really packing until school is out or I'll go hog wild with the shopping.

Now working on Fish Extender gifts and door magnets. Probably going overboard (figurativelypirate:) but this is a once in a lifetime for us.

I agree that a meet would be fun. Just say when and where and we'll be there :cool1:

JannasMamma - I really like that Mall; we ended up going to Vaughn Mills to get our daughters' their luggage last month.

I was looking at both Monstro's 2007 Navigators and the look of our ship to figure out a good time and place for a group meet, but it's difficult to find a suitable time since times could have changed since then. With my luck, we'll decide on a time and it would be right at the start of the boat drill.

How about either meeting in the main lobby or the Promenade Lounge? Any ideas for a time??? :confused3

we spent another Sunday morning with a laptop, an iPad and a Fodor's guidebook making plans :teeth: we have decided to forego Florence, instead we are going to take the train to the Cinque Terre.

is anyone else on the DCL excursion in Naples of "Pompeii, Sorrento and Capri"?

Hi all,

We have been absent from this posting too long! So very excited about this cruise - have a DD -10 and DS-12 that are really looking forward to meeting kids their own age and chat before hand ~ anyone else looking to do that?
:hippie:

My daughter is looking to talk with other kids pre-cruise as well. She chatted with others before the last cruise on a kid's meet thread. Don't know how to start one myself, but it seems like there is some interest to do one for this cruise. Who is the discussion board expert out there that can get one started for us????

How about scheduling something the first sea day in the late afternoon? That way we won't bump into the boat drill time or anyone's dining times. The Promenade Lounge is always good because I don't remember there being other activities scheduled in there during the day.

My daughter (11) would love to chat, blog, email, text... with other kids beforehand. She bugs me to check this site everynight for the new posts. I am not sure how to do it either? I would be happy to take a lead on setting something up if someone could point me in the right direction???

I am sure my kids would like to connect with others before the cruise - but we still haven't told them about the trip. Probably early June. We need to finalize some other things before we tell them - they know it's europe but that's it.

Purchased our Vatican and Sistine Chapel admission tickets today - one more thing done. Tried to do the coliseum but it didn't work - any tips on this? We are booked with Rome in Limo and they suggested we do this.

We still have room for up to three on two of our private tours for Rome and Pompeii/Sorrento - if interested please look at my earlier posts on this thread.

I sure hope the exchange rate gets better by the time we leave.

We are signed up for the DCL Pompeii, Sorrento and Capri. We are a family of four, with DS-16 and DD-23.

Have been to Rome many times, but never booked Coliseum tickets on-line before. I can tell you though that when we went last time we wanted to go down into the Gladiator Pits, but found out you can only do that with a guided tour, not with the general admission ticket. Just an FYI if your kids were interested in that part of the Coliseum.

I've got some spa time about 2pm on the at sea day, but I really want to meet you all. Can we meet around 1??

We are a family of 5, DD(17-almost 18), DS(16) and DD(12-almost 13)!!! Lots of kids these ages. :cool1:

We are! It'll be me (14 year old girl) and my parents (who, despite my constant urging are not on the disboards) :)

In trying to solidify our transfer for getting back to Barcelona, I had a few questions for the veterans out there. First off, is it recommended to even book this in advance, or better to chance it with grabbing a taxi? Just confused about what time to offer to someone, as I'm not really sure a realistic estimate for when we will be getting off the ship. I know it says 7AM, but can't imagine that everyone actually gets off then? Any advice would be much appreciated =)

nemo,

It depends on your flight departure time, how many people in your party and your dinner seating. If you have an early flight you can plan on getting off the ship at 7:00. Taxi's are an easy solution for a small party with minimal luggage. Disney transfers are an easy solution for larger parties. Hiring a shuttle service is somewhere between. If you have first dinner seating you'll have early breakfast and could be off the ship as early as 7:00. Late dinner - a little later. You can usually stall and take your time getting off, but they rush you through. Hope that helps.
